Chairman’s (Pastor’s) Report 2023/24:
It’s now 22 years since a small group of us caught the vision for an Evangelical Church in the Moorside and Sholver area. The group remains small but the vision and sense of purpose remains strong.
For over two decades we have insisted on reaching up, reaching in and reaching out in our area and, reflecting on a recent event which was intended to encourage churches to move from survival to revival, those three ‘reaches’ seem more relevant than ever.
This year seems to have been a year of consolidation. We might not have gained much ground or held many groundbreaking events but we have remained steady and true to our objects.
The Gospel has been preached weekly, God has been the ongoing object of our worship, and we have endeavoured to meet the spiritual need of the whole congregation, despite sickness and the life/work demands that have affected Fresh Youth.
Last Christmas we were instrumental in setting up a Community Carol Service at the Community Centre which was well attended and involved local churches, community groups and a local primary school. I believe that the opportunity to run a carol service grew from the participation of myself, and other Fresh Church members, at the Community Centre. My own involvement with the Sholver and Moorside Community Team grew stronger throughout our 23/24 reporting year.
My opinion is that we ended this year as a small but healthy, stable and resilient worshiping community with potential for growth.
Pastor Terry Durose

Minutes contd:
Finance Report
-
Income for the 22/23 period was down. Expenditure for the same period was up. However, at 31[st] March 2023 the cash funds were £5k higher than at 31[st] March 2022. This is a great encouragement because we were facing uncertainties surrounding utility costs and a reduced congregation.
-
Fresh Church continues to tithe on its income with the main beneficiary currently being Manchester City Mission’s Groundbreakers Project.
-
The ‘Breakdown’ on page 11 of the Annual Report shows income to various funds in the 22/23 period. It also gives a very basic picture of how funds have been spent during the same period.
-
CC gave a brief explanation of Acts 435, Gift Aid Small Donations Scheme (GASDS) and Thirtyone:eight, for those who were unfamiliar with these items.
-
TD thanked the Deacons for their careful management of finances.
The meeting unanimously agreed to pass the finance report.
On the grounds that both the Minutes and Finance Report had been accepted by the meeting, the Annual Report for 2022/2023 was passed.
The meeting thanked CC & JD for their work.
Ministry Reports
The following people gave brief verbal reports relating to 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023.
-
TD - RA is in the process of taking over as Compliance Officer from BL. Everything is up to date.
-
SueL - Fresh Kids
-
Thanks CC, BL and JS for their support in Fresh Kids.
-
There are 3 regular attendees. SueL told the meeting that the children often ask challenging questions.
-
Fresh Kids are currently using the ‘Link it Up’ bible which the children enjoy reading alongside the adults. They are currently 2/3 through the Old Testament.
-
SL asked for prayer for more leaders and more children.
-
Fresh Church and Fresh Youth meet on alternate weeks.
-
RA - Fresh Youth
-
There are 2-4 regular attendees to Fresh Youth.
-
Fresh Youth are currently studying ‘The Godhead’ and ‘Church Life’.
-
Fresh Youth are the next generation and it is important that they know why we do what we do, as a church.
-
JD - Worship
-
JD told the meeting that moving from playing occasionally to playing every week was a daunting challenge, but God has been with the worship team and it is a great joy to see people joining in worship.
-
JD expressed thanks to SC, TD and, especially, B Box who has guided and encouraged as the worship team has developed.
-
The sound desk is now efficiently run by a team including Christine, Stewart, Chris, Izzy and Abbie – all who volunteered to learn how to use the AV system when DB left. Steve, Chris and Beryl film the services.
-
TD noted that SL oversees the AV team and commented on how much work is done ‘behind the scenes’ regarding worship.
13
Minutes contd:
TD thanked all the ministry leaders for their work.
AOB
-
JD and SL were thanked for their enjoyable ‘children’s addresses’.
-
After a leak from the roof during the year, SC pointed out that there have been no further leaks even thought we have had bad weather.
-
TD told the meeting that we are in the process of improving our system to stream services. While streaming from a phone has been good, there have been times when the sound has been a problem. The church has purchased a more suitable streaming system.
-
The church internet provider has proved to be a problem resulting in SC spending hours trying to get them to provide the service we pay for. We are now switching to another provider.
TD noted that the Annual Report for 22/23 has, indeed, covered an interesting’ 12 month period but God has been with us.
7:06pm TD closed the meeting in prayer, giving thanks for everyone involved.
This is a true record of this meeting,
