whole.
Para 1J)
Children of Colombia has therefore
been able to distribute almost £23.000 to
Fundacion Natsrtama. Fundacion Social
Feni4 and Hogares Luz y Wida over the
year.
Children of Colombia funding has
helped Fundacion Fenix to support
vulnerable young women and help fund
education costs, particularly in the
social welfare and health care sectors.
It has also helped alleviate the
additional problems caused by the
Covid 19 pandemic. Apart from illness-
many students and their families were
infected - lockdowns increased the
levels of domestic violence and
isolation from support groups. Funding
helped pay for ren( internet and food to
keep particularly vulnerable students
safe and in touch with the group so they
could receive essential support and
mentoring and continue their studies.
Children of Colombia responded to an
uryent appeal to provide equipment and
medicines in the Puerto Narino area of
the Amazon. The isolated area - where
Natsrtama is based - suffered very badly
from the Covid-19 pandemic with a very
high rate of infection and many deaths
as well as hunger caused by the
collapse of tourism. Children of
Colombia set up an appeal on Just
Giving which raised funds to send six
shipments of medical material and to
distributs food to dozens of families
without resources.
"I want to express to all my sincere
gratitudè for your donations that
ontributed so much to meeting urgent
needs at a critical momen(" (Kilyam. a
qualified nurse working in the region
and a member of the Fenix education
programme.)
Hogares Luz y Wida has been able to
maintsin its care for severely
disadvantaged children in Bogota.
Colombia Many of these suffer from
major health problems and trauma, and
most require a lifetime of ¢are. Covid 19
greatly increased the difficulties of
rovidi
h levels of
ssional

health care to these particularly
vulnerable young people during
lockdown. Children of Colombia
responded to an appeal for new
specialist hospital beds which will
impmve the quality of life for some of
the young people in their care.
All this work has been supported by the
funds raised by Children of Colombia.

Para 122
The charity maintsins a reserve to cover
regular costs eg JustGiving
subscriptions and websits malntsnance.
Funds are periodicalty distributed to the
three foundations supported by
Children of Colombia when a sufficient
balance in excess of this £500 has
accumulated to justify the transfer
costs.
It is our preference to move funds to the
foundations as regularly as possible. to
maximise the funds available to them.
During the year 2020-21 however. a
number of circumstances combined to
leave a higher than usual balance at the
end of the year. Partly this was due to
the high level of donations in the year.
particularty the £13.650 of legacies
received. Additionally the Covid-19
pandemic affected the work of the
foundations significanty. The funds a
needed more than ever but we have
been asked to hold them in reserve until
they can be distributed effectively as
staff return and work resumes. It is
better to hold them in the UK than
transfer them to Colombia at present
due to the less than optimal rate of
exchange.
£14.000 has been transferred to
Natutama and Luz y Vida in 2021122 to
date. Further transfers will continue to
be made at the request of the
foundations.
