The Listenlng Ear - Annual Chairperson's Report
Date: l4 April 2024
Charity No: 1095964
Covering peTiod: l April 2023 to 31 March 2024
For over 20 year& Thc Listening Ear has continued to provide vital counseIling services for
chtldren and young people in the areas of Bournemoutm Christchurch, and Poole with needs
growing every year.
During this flnancial year, The Listening Eat provided 254 counselling packages working within
45 local primary, secondary, and special schools. The presenting issues continue to vary,
however, the charity has seen a steady increase in refeTrls for children who have experienced
trauma and children who are neurodiverse.
Due to cuffent e¢onomio uncertainty and the impact of the ¢ost-of-living ¢risis, fimding remains
the biggest challenge for the charity. We are mindful thai there is a tendency for more funding
going into larger organisations. nevertheless efforts are made to support our fimdrdising avenues.
Securing grants, regular donations and fundraising events such The Cheese & Chill festival,
Fatnily Fun Day as NVCEI as involvement with local Rotary groups have all helped to increase
awareness as well as incom¢ for the charity. Moving forwards, the objective remains securing a

steady stream of funding. this continues to be the main challenge facing the charity.
Despite the fjnancial challenges, The Listening Ear continues to strive for professional
txc¢llenc¢ and is proud to hav¢ b¢en recognis¢d with a number of accolades in 2023-24
including..
Specialist Counselling Service 2023-24 Prestige Awards (South England) for the 3rd
consecutive year
Children's Charity of the Year-2024 E2 Media Awards of Excellence
Best Children's Charity Al Non-profit Organisation Award
Through the course of the year the team of four tn￿tees. Chairperson- Kasia
Stankiewicz-Larnmin, Secretary - Lee Weldon, Treasurer - Jonathan Humphreys. as well as
Layla Russell have been supporting TLE. The board continues to be committed to helping the
charity grow and evolve in order to support the high demand for mental health support for young
people.
In addition to the work of the Board of Trustees. Anita Weldon continues in the role of Charty
DiT¢ctor in charge of the day to day running of the charity alongside a small administrdtion stsff.
The Listenlng Ear remains commttted to supporting young people in the community being
mindful of their needs and the importance of mental health.
