Sailing Masters Report for 2024

The Three Brothers had been lifted out December 2023 for some interim maintenance to reduce the leaks, the engine was not working as expected so a service was arranged. New batteries, cables and isolator switch and bilge pump were obtained as a back up. Spare parts required for the engine were in short supply and arrived just in time for the engine to be up and running for the Coble Festival.

The Gratitude and Gansey Lass took it in turns to have their annual maintenance in the Beck Hill Warehouse, March and April so they were also pristine for the Festival.

The Sailing Coble Festival was held on Saturday 29[th] and Sunday 30[th] June with 16 vessels taking part. The Three Brother’s engine behaved perfectly, but returning to the berth on the Saturday afternoon proved difficult. The tide receded faster than the rudder could be raised, leaving a 10m gap between the jetty and the vessel. The RLNI inshore rescue vessel was alerted to get the crew safely ashore. The rest of the Festival was plain sailing!

A man overboard Exercise was undertaken 5th July with Gratitude, Katie Slater and Three Brothers representing the Society together with the RYYC and harbour vessels overseen by the RLNI.

The Three Brothers was lifted out and put into the VMF starting 11[th] July for the restoration which was completed on the 23[rd] October. Many thanks to John Clarkson and his team of volunteers for enduring all the hard work involved.

The fickle weather meant that a large percentage of the planned Sunday sailings had to be cancelled. This seemed to have a knock on effect that when sailing was possible fewer crew were available to sail.

The Sailing Coble Festival has been booked for Saturday 19[th] July and Sunday 20[th] July. Looking forward to good sailing weather in 2025,
