PETTMAN (CLASSICAL MUSIC) FOUNDATION

TRUSTEES’ ANNUAL REPORT

FOR PERIOD 6[TH] APRIL 2023 - 5[th] APRIL 2024

Annual funding was made available to the Pettman (National Junior) Academy, Royal Overseas League and Departments of Opera North Ltd.

ROYAL OVERSEAS LEAGUE

Jack Moyer, cellist, visited London to study with Louise Hopkins of the Guildhall School of Music and Jo Cole at the Royal Academy of Music.

Otis Prescott-Mason, pianist, had lessons with Christopher Elton of the Royal Academy of Music and Louis Schwitzgabel, Daniel Lebhardt and Graham Scott, all of the Northern School of Music.

Each Student was appreciative of the teaching that had been provided for them.

PETTMAN NATIONAL JUNIOR ACADEMY

The Seventeenth Annual Akaroa Festival took place in January with Students and visitors all enjoying the glorious weather, which was a pleasant environment in which to study and enjoy the music.

A talented young pianist, Ashani Waityatillake, not only reached the finals of the Secondary Schools Competition with her Piano Trio but also won the Wallace Piano Competition in Auckland. She has received a full scholarship to attend the Curtis Institute Summer School in Philadelphia. Ashani is only 14 years of age with a wonderful future ahead of her.

OPERA NORTH LIMITED

Funding was made available for a New Zealand Student to study with Opera North and Andrew Gordon studied with an English Student, Dan Coxon. Dan had worked with Opera North for a few years with the Youth Company.

Andrew, having been a member of New Zealand Opera, employed as a Participation Manager filled that position and was anxious to implement theories and ideas which he hopes to glean from the Leeds University during his study there.
