## **PETTMAN (CLASSICAL MUSIC) FOUNDATION**

## **TRUSTEES ANNUAL REPORT**

## **FOR PEROD 9[th] MAY 2020 – 8[th] May 2021**

Annual Funding was made available to the Royal Over-Seas League, Pettman National Junior Academy and Departments of Opera North.

## **ROYAL OVER-SEAS LEAGUE**

The Annual Garden Party did not take place because of the Covid 19 situation. On-Line Auditions with Students did continue for the Pettman Scholarship. Viereinigkeit, a String Quartet were chosen. They are all undergraduate Students from the Auckland University and are scheduled to visit the UK in 2022, along with the duo selected in 2019.

## **PETTMAN NATIONAL JUNIOR ACADEMY**

During January 2021, The Annual Akaroa Festival took place as New Zealand was in a better situation than the UK regarding Covid and without Lockdowns. International Musical Guest Artists were unable to be invited but well-known local instrumentalists took their places.

It was a very successful Festival with all NZ Musicians and many from the Academy instructing the Students in a way which normally would not have happened. The Students learned extra aspects of being an adult musician and became aware of what life would be like, learning more pieces to perform at greater speed, but adding variety to their repertoire.

The Chamber Music Programme began again with great success. During the year, tutoring was done on-line when people World-wide also became involved. A vast number of people in NZ were also taking the opportunity of visiting the sessions, with everyone learning new skills. There were no Lunchtime Concerts in Akaroa during the year.

## **OPERA NORTH**

This year was a very difficult one because of the Covid situation although building and renovation work at the Howard Opera Centre continued, renovations which are now almost complete.

The Pettman DARE Programme was put on hold as Students were unable to travel and the Musical World was closed down.
