61 Page Introduction Crown Church exists so that many, together, ma). glorify God and enjoy Him forever. This Annual Report represents a diverse group of people from across Hillingdon, West London and Berkshire enjoving their relationship with God and one another and living out their Christian faith in the community. This financial year is marked by dramatic changes brought about by Coiid. In March 2020 all in-person gatherings at Croivn Church came to an abrupt halt in order to play our part in keeping the community safe. Crown Church has adapted to become an online church with a continuation of ministries such as Sunday Seices, Life Groups, Youth work all using online plarforms. Whilst the loclidown season has brought about a number of challenges the resilience and endeavour of the church Communit has been outstanding. Not just adapting to the opportunity" of technology but the ongoing encouragement towards one another and a desire to eare and reach out to the loeal community". As this report also covers the financial picture of the charity it is also noteworthy the incredible, ongoing generosity of the church members. CroMq] church- you haTre responded so well through a challenging season! This report represents an incredible commitment by a huge army of volunteers. 71 Page 01 Gather Sundays In 2019 and early 2020 crow Church was gathering in two locations on Sundays. Bishopshalt School, Hillingdon: Historically the original congregation of Crown Church and our largest venue. Over this period of time we have M."elcomed a number of new people to the congregation and averaging 300 people gathered. The highest attendance in the }Tear was 369 people. In the autumn term we historically welcome a number of new students attending Brunel University and other local Universities- the September influx quieter than previous years but by December the number of students eonnecting had grown. The LiTring Room, Cowley: A congregation that started in 2018 and still in an early formation phase. Meeting at 6pm it has gathered shift M:orkers, students as well as those local to Cowley. A number of Langley & Slough members haN-e connected too. Regular attendance flllctuated bekn.een 40-60 people. Our highest combined Sunday across the tsvo congregations was 419 people. Both congregations share resourees including preaching teams and worship teams and both congregations come together for 'One Church, events. Some highlights of the preaching series, included 'Change My Mind, focusing on the opportunities of being a multicultural church; and 'Loveolog( which brought some teaching around relationships and sex. Our Worship teams, supported b}. the Audio Visual teams, have led us a depth of joy and Nibrancy. Our four bands are distinctly different in style from one another and contribute well into the diversitST of the church. It was encouraging to have three new worship leaders leading for the first time in the last }Tear. Online Church Due to cod li'e shut dom'n all our in-person gatherings in March 2020. Within a 'eek we had got a single church service running online. Whilst it is a season of grieving in-person gatherings that are so key to the life of a church we have also been encouraged b}T the opportunity, of church services online. The number of people gathering online has been greater than the numbers we would gather in-person- 0"er the Easter weekend 2020 we reached over 4,000 people. The creative impact of our International Celebration brough encouragement to a wider audience than just our immediate church family. A song called"The Blessing" was filmed by members of Crown Church that represented the man}, different languageslnationalities in Crown Chureh. The video 'ent ]raI and reached over 20,000 people and Nas also plal'ed regularly on Christian TV Channel TBN. Online church has had the additional benefit of reaching overseas. It has also provided an 'easy invite, opportunity with Crown members iniriting their family and friends to 'come see my church,. RegistEred Addre$5.' Crown Cburch. The Living Room. 81 Page 02 Next Generation Children's Work (o-il) In December our part-time Children's Worker moved onto a new job and it took until summer 2020 to recruit a new one (Sept 2020 Start). An excellent team of volunteers provided support cover in the interim. As part of the transition we have been able to increase the hours dedicated to the staff role from 20 to 30 hours per week. A number of stand out events including October half term party for children in Cro1 as well as iniites to the local community. At Christmas time, the nativity brought many visitors into the chureh as well as provided an opportunity for the children (and kids workers) to display their acting talents to the whole church. Sundays at Bishopshalt School sees children split into four age groups Thryth an average of 45-60 children attending. The work is supported by a number of outstanding volunteers who give time to prepare materials and lead a mixthre of games, songs and teaching during the sessions. During lockdown the opportunities for our children to eonneet has been more limited. Weeldy resources have been sent to parents to support their oivn input into their children but sadly M-e have been unable to recreate any gathering opportunities for them. There have been smaller pockets of involvement through the recording of Ilideos and invitations for artivork to be displayed in the online services. Seperal of the children featured as part of June's international celebration. Sunbeams- parent and toddler group at The Liiing Room- played an important role in reaching out to families in the community. Prior to lockdown Sunbeams regularly gathered around 20 children each Theek, along Thith parents/carers. During lockdoN Sunbeams has had to pause. Youth Work (11-18s) In July we were able to reclt our first ever staff youth worker, part-time at 30 hours per iveelc. This is a significant step in reeognising the importance of the work amongst our 11-18 year olds. The number of 11-18 year olds has been steadily groiving due to the demographic of people/families joining the church but also the impact of friends inTriting friends. On Sundajs at Bishopshalt, the average attendance was 30-40 youth split into two age groups. Volunteer youth workers prepare materials and deliver interactllTe teaching sessions Thith each age group. This takes place as an alternative to the 'sermon time, and creates a space for }'oung people to dei'elop friendships and connect Mryth the team of youth workers who support them pastorallj". In August 2019 45 of our youth went to NeM:day- a Christian }'outh camp organised by Newrfrontiers. Joining Thryth 8000 Tr'outh at the Norfolk Shoivground proNides an outstanding opportunih, for our young people to enjoy friendship together but also be encouraged in their personal journeys of faith. Again we had an outstanding team of volunteers from CroThry] Church who committed to late nights and early mornings> encouraging and supporting our young people throughout the week. 91 Page Covid has meant that Newday was cancelled in 2020 and will not go ahead in 2021. Crown Chureh contributed an additional £iooo to help ivith the losses incurred {due to cancellation) by the New'day team. During the summer of lockdo1 the youth were able to gather for some outdoor sessions in the Cowley Rec and there have also been Zoom sessions to connect online. Students and 20S A brand new leadership team has emerged for this age group. Under the name of "Trellis" the team has done an excellent job and providing a mix of social and home based gatherings as ivell as opportunities to gather at The LiTring Rootn for worship eNents. The opportunity to connect Brunel Students has involN'ed these eirents as well as encouraging students to join Life Groups and sen'e in the life of the ehurch. It is good to see skndents have been SeIng in many different areas of church life including worship teams, kids work, A/V teams etc. There continues to be food eooked for students after Sunday services at both our enUes. IOIPage 03 Multiply As part of our Vision Sundays we have talked about the opportunity to strengthen some of our teams to help us prepare for future gromth. This past year has been about the journey towards that. We were able to recruit a nem, leader to lead the Bishopshalt Venue and an existing leader was due move across to lead the Cowley Venue- until lockdown came and their time was redirected to deileloping 'online' ehurch. Whilst in-person gatherings are not taking place it is providing time to develop leadership teatns and pastoral structures so that when in- person gatherings resume we will be in a stronger place. New staff additions also provide extra opportunity in the area of supporting, training and deN'eloping leaders. The addition of a Children's Worker and Youth Worker to the staff team has also been a part of this strengthening. So much of our }'outh and children's Nvork has been based around in-person gatheiings and so creativity is driving any opportunities through lockdoM. Our administratii'e roles around finance, communication, HR are also really important. Whilst they operate in the baekground they are ke) to a great deal of ehurch life flourishing. There has been work developing in the background to ensure this area builds capacity for future growth. we look to reach nem: areas it ivas really pleasing to launch our first ever Life Group in the heart of Slough and it has been encouraging to see the three Life Groups aeross Langley? IN'er and Slough working together and deireloping initiatiN"es. Equally the Life Groups north of the A40 have been developing initiatives together both to support and encourage one another but also to reach out in their area. With so much of Cro1%'S outreach operating through the central location of The LiNing Room it is also good to see the flourishing at the borders of where we gather people from. RegistEred Addre$5.' IIIPage 04 Social Justice The Living Room has continued to provide a base for us to support the local comtnunity in a number of iyays. Over 60's: A team within Crown has established in this period and outreach to 'elcotne in members of the commllnityT Nvho are of retirement age and for some liNing in isolation. Foodbank: Cro Church operates under the West Drayton and Yiewsley Foodbank Team- this inNTolves a collaboration between Cromm Church, St Matthew's Yiewsley and Bell Farm Church West Dra)ton. Our team of volunteers provide a 'eekly drop-in point for food provision, shower facilities for homeless and a small provision of clothing. All the Nations Café: This team has continued to do a great M'ork supporting indiNiduals, who as neivcomers to the UK, are at risk of being marginalised in our eommunities. This has also provided opportunities to link up ivith the student seThices teams at Brunel N%.ho have a similar pastoral remit. Before loCkdoN, All the Nations Café continued to welcome in students from many countries around the world. During loekdoTr%m the Over 6os and All the Nations Café stopped. Foodbank paused for a period due to many of the team shielding however the team leader has done a great job in re-establishing a new team to sern"e. Some volunteers spent the lockdoN period operating a hybrid service, deliTrering food pareels to those unable to access the Food banks. Covid Fund: During the lockdomm period Cro established a hardship fund that has been used to support individuals both in the church and the local community .hen situations have become financiall}, difficult. It has enabled Crown to respond primarily Mryth food proiision to individuals and families ivho have found income reduced or lost during this period. This fund NNill continue to be used into the next financial period. In June 2020 Crown Church members gal'e £17,143 to support the work of churches in India, Zimbabwe and Kenya care for their communities and the impact of financial hardship through Covid lockdoMT. Over the period we continue to stand with Project Hope Mumbai with a gift of £3,400. This supports work amongst the slums of Mumbai Mith medical and education support. 121Page 05 Equip Discipleship Explored: In the last year we ran a successful Discipleship Explored course following on frotn Alpha- the course is designed for new Christians and helps them develop their new faith. The course ran for 8 weeks with 14 delegates in Summer 2019. Life Groups: Our primary gatherings for Christian gromrth and discipleship are the 18 Life Groups at Crown. 199 adults from across the church are connected to a Life Group. These mid-lveek gatherings proNide opportunity for mutuall!, supportive relationships to deN'elop and use the sermon materials to deN'elop personal application to content from the Sunday service. We have gathered Life Group leaders once a term for 'Basecamp' as a chance to support and encourage our Life Group leaders. During lockdo our Life Groups have done an excellent job of translating their in- person gatherings to online-gatherings. Life Group meetings have taken place on online platforms and WhatsApp groups hai'e been used to stay connected and for mutual support through the week. We saw a number of people jump into a Life Group around Mareh/April as the UK started to restrict in-person gatherings. Marriage/Parenting: In the last year a team provided training and support for married eouples and for parents. We haN"e celebrated new marriages and engaged couples haN'e been paired with others in the church for support leading up to marriage. Safeguarding: The Safeguarding team has continued to work together regularly to ensure policies are Updated; relationships Mryth stakeholders remain strong and that N'olunteers receii'e coaching and support towards safe practice. CroThT continues to use Thirtyoneeight.org as it's support agenc), for Safeguarding. New Ground Churches: As members of the New Ground faLnily of churches there are number of training and equipping opportunities. In 2019 five members of Crow graduated the New Ground Academy and in 2020 four members graduated. The Academy provides 40 da}'s of theology and leadership training over two year period. In addition we had one person complete an "Impact" year with Neiv Ground where they gal'e a whole year to volunteer alongside the staff team. We are so grateful for the investment each one has made to be trained and equipped in this wa},. In Summer 2019, 75 from Crown attended Ashburnham - a Christian conference the provided main sessions and seminars for all ages, designed to equip and encourage indiNryduals in their Christian faith. Newcomers: Our Intro Course and Welcome Lunches have provided a context through which new people can connect Mryth the church in a more meaningful way. We have seen 43 adults come through these eN'ents over this period. RegistEred Addre$5.' Crown Cburch. The Living Room. High StreEt Cowley. V¥bridge. U88 20Z. The Crown Chur¢h isa Charitable Company. 131Page 06 Gospel Alpha: The Alpha Course is a fantastic experienee for non-christians searching for the bigger answers to life "there must be tnore to life than this" and young Christians getting a 'refresher' in the faith. The course talies participants on a journey across io weeks to explore Christianity, covering a different topic each week. The course started Mqth 50 delegates (including Crown members joining friends) booked onto the Course at the start of 2020. We 'ere able to use the Living Room to full effect, a 11 tneal for the first couple of ii'eeks to make sure guests felt welcome, to the 11 multimedia experience Mryth iqdeo presentations and the engaging discussion groups. Three delegates made a commitment to the Christian faith as part of this course. Baptisms: Over the reporting period we had the priiilege of baptising nine people. Christmas 2019: Carols at crom on Dec 6th 2019 proiqded a chance to iniqte the eommunity to a traditional carol service. Andy Kind (eomedian turned preacher) was the guest speaker and Crown pulled together a choir and performance pieces. Around 450 gathered at Bishopshalt School for the event. The ehildren's nativity on 13th Dee 2019 also drew in over 400 guests to the service and provided a chance to connect to new families in the community.. The Living Room: Over the course ofthe period Crown's Community venue The Liiqng Room has provided opportunit), to reach out and sert"e the local community". All the Nations Café, Sunbeams parent and toddlers, Foodbank, Oirer 60's drop-in, Alpha hape all be mentioned above. The Craft Room also proNrydes a chance to connect Mryth members of the community through arts and craft- it brings together the Irery young Mryth older members of the community and so creates a unique context of several generations coming together. Prayer is offered if people m.ould like it either directly or b}, leaving a prayer request for the team to read and pray OiTer later together. Giving: We have continued our support of the John 3:16 trust m.hich supports the Evangelist Adrian Hollowa}' who spends time across Christian Unions and Churches sharing about the Christian Faith. Over the course of the }'ear thousands ivill hear him speak about Jesus which has led many to further explore the Christian faith. We also continue to support a missionary famil! based in the Rock Church in Wroclaw Poland- this support plays its part in the work the church does in the community. 161Page Letier from Chair of Trustees Firstly, I am truly humbled and honoured to be given the opportunity to fill such big, godly and awesome shoes! Julian has been a stalm'art and has done a fantastic job during his tenure, we wish him the best in his new adventure! Secondly> a Chairperson is only as good as their team and they are an amazing bunch diligent, committed and keen to see Crown Chureh grom, stronger in the days, Nveeks and months ahead. I would like to giN'e a special mention to those who have 'orked hard to produce these reports, it is not an easy thing but }'ou have done it iiith sueh grace. God sees - and Thill reward - your efforts. I am happy as Chair of Trustees to commend this report. It has been a challenging time for the church and the people in it. The ongoing COVIDi9 situation has meant the ways people connect as families, friends, colleagues and yes as a congregation has changed for the considerable future. Yet, in the midst of the difficulties, I have seen the way that the church has adapted and continues to support the inner and wider community. We have harnessed the poNver of technology to bring the m.ord of God into }Tour lives and homes and we could not be prouder of the team M,ho makes this happen. We continue to hai'e Sunday meetings which remain central to the life of the church. Although M'e cannot be together in person, I have personally loved logging on and experiencing God and interacting Mith you all, yes even in my PJS! The worship has been incredible, the series of sermons most recently 'Amazing Race'_ have been both encouraging and thought-proN'oking. MoTring to online services ma), have been a bit strange to start off with but the silver lining is that through the power of social media, we are able to reach more people than before. So what the devil meant as a eans of keeping us apart has "worked for the good of those who loue Him" (Romans 8 N28). The LiNing Room has been a beacon in the community,, proNiding a way for the ehureh to make a strong impact in people's lives and we are thankful to everyone who has worked hard to make this so. I am also inspired by those running the Alpha course, The are so thrilled that we are able to reach out despite not being able to physically be together. In this time of increased tensions surrounding race, it is so refreshing to see the church further embrace the diN'ersity of its members and yes, ask those uncomfortable questions. I ant to highlight the incredible leadership team who have stepped out and stepped up in this regard. l am extremely proud of you all and the way }'ou serve and lead. THE CROWN CHURCH (A COMPANY LIMITED BY GUARANTEE) NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS
FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31ST AUGUST 2020
Basis of Preparation
The accounts have been prepared in accordance with the provisions in Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006 applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime and in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS102) (effective 1 January 2015) - (Charities SORP (FRS102)).
Advantage has been taken of Section 396(5) of The Companies Act 2006 to allow the format of the financial statements to be adapted to reflect the special nature of the charity's operation and in order to comply with the requirements of the SORP.
The Crown Church meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS102. Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost unless otherwise stated in the relevant accounting policy notes.
Preparation of accounts on a going concern basis
Preparation of the accounts is on a going concern basis. The Trustees are of the view that the level of reserves will support the charity going forward.
Changes to accounting estimates
No changes to accounting estimates have occurred in the reporting period.
Material prior period errors
No material prior year errors have been identified in the reporting period.
The particular accounting policies adopted are set out below.
1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Income
Recognition of Income
These are included in the Statement of Financial Activities (SOFA) when:
-
the charity becomes entitled to the income;
-
it is more likely than not that the trustees will receive the resources; and
-
the monetary value can be measured with sufficient reliability.
Offsetting
There has been no offsetting of assets and liabilities, or income and expenses, unless required or permitted by the FRS 102 SORP or FRS 102.
Grants and Donations
Grants and donations are only included in the SoFA when the general income recognition criteria are met (5.10 to 5.12 FRS 102 SORP).
Tax Reclaims on Donations and Gifts
Gift Aid receivable is included in income when there is a valid declaration from the donor. Any Gift Aid amount recovered on a donation is considered to be part of that gift and is treated as an addition to the same fund as the initial donation unless the donor or the terms of the appeal have specified otherwise.
Gifts in Kind
Gifts in kind for use by the charity are included in the SoFA as income from donations when receivable.
Legacies
Legacies are included in the SOFA when receipt is probable, that is, when there has been grant of probate, the executors have established that there are sufficient assets in the estate and any conditions attached to the legacy are either within the control of the charity or have been met.

NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS (continued) FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 31ST AUGUST 2020
Government Grants
The charity has not received government grants in the reporting period.
Donated goods
Donated goods are measured at fair value (the amount for which the asset could be exchanged) unless impractical to do so.
The cost of any stock of goods donated for distribution to beneficiaries is deemed to be the fair value of those gifts at the time of their receipt and they are recognised on receipt. In the reporting period in which the stocks are distributed, they are recognised as an expense at the carrying amount of the stocks at distribution.
Donated goods for resale are measured at fair value on initial recognition, which is the expected proceeds from sale less the expected costs of sale, and recognised in 'Income from other trading activities' with the corresponding stock recognised in the balance sheet. On its sale the value of stock is charged against 'Income from other trading activities' and the proceeds from sale are also recognised as 'Income from other trading activities'.
Goods donated for on-going use by the charity are recognised as tangible fixed assets and included in the SoFA as incoming resources when receivable.
Donated Services and Facilities
Donated services and facilities are included in the SOFA when received at the value of the gift to the charity provided the value of the gift can be measured reliably.
Donated services and facilities that are consumed immediately are recognised as income with an equivalent amount recognised as an expense under the appropriate heading in the SOFA.
Volunteer Help
The value of any voluntary help received is not included in the accounts but is described in the Directors' annual report.
Income from interest, royalties and dividends
This is included in the accounts when receipt is probable and the amount receivable can be measured reliably.
Expenditure and liabilities
The charity has opted to use the natural classification of categories in its accounts.
Liability Recognition
Liabilities are recognised where it is more likely than not that there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to pay out resources and the amount of the obligation can be measured with reasonable certainty.
Governance and Support Costs
Support costs have been allocated between governance costs and other support. Governance costs comprise all costs involving public accountability of the charity and its compliance with regulation and good practice.
Grants with Performance Conditions
Where the charity gives a grant with conditions for its payment being a specific level of service or output to be provided, such grants are only recognised in the SOFA once the recipient of the grant has provided the specified service or output.
Grants Payable without Performance Conditions
Where there are no conditions attaching to the grant that enables the donor charity to realistically avoid the commitment, a liability for the full funding obligation must be recognised.
Employee benefits
Short term benefits including holiday pay are recognised as an expense in the period in which the service is received.

The charity is a company limited by guarantee and has no share capital. In the event of the charity being wound up, the liability in respect of the guarantee is limited to £1 per member of the charity.
Debtors
Debtors (including trade debtors and loans receivable) are measured on initial recognition at settlement amount after any trade discounts or amount advanced by the charity. Subsequently, they are measured at the cash or other consideration expected to be received.
Fixed Assets
Tangible fixed assets for use by the charity:
These are capitalised if they cost over £1,000 and can be used for more than one year. They are valued at cost or, if gifted, at the value to the charity on receipt.

The directors actively review the major risks which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe that maintaining the free reserves stated, combined with the annual review of the controls over key financial systems carried out on an annual basis will provide sufficient resources in the event of adverse conditions. The Directors have also examined other operational and business risks which they face and confirm that they have established systems to mitigate the significant risks.

INDEPENDENT EXAMINER’S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of The Crown Church for the period ended 31st August 2020.
As the charity's trustees (who are also the directors of the company for the purposes of company law), you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
Responsibilties and basis of report
I report in respect of my examination of the Charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
The charity’s gross income exceeded £250,000 and I am qualified to undertake the examination by being a fellow member of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect:
-
the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or
-
the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or
-
the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
-
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
