**FOLSS – 2023-2024 AGM Chair’s Report**

## **Chairs report**

## **How is the PTA run?**

**Welcome to FOLSS (Friends of Leonard Stanley School). We are a PTFA and registered charity run by a dedicated team of volunteers, who give up their time for free to fundraise for the benefit of the children at** Leonard Stanley C of E (Aided) Primary School **.**

**We actively** fundraise **to provide play and school equipment, pay towards school trips, solely fund the school swimming pool and put on** events **for parents and children throughout the year.**

**Annually we have to find £5,000 to pay for the baseline funding needs of the school (PGL coaches, Panto coaches, leaver’s gifts, Christmas party presents etc.).**

**This year we have raised £** 56 766.90 **and spent £** 26,788 **. More details to follow in the Treasurer’s report.**

## **Our committee is structured as follows:**

- **Honorary committee team: Chairs, Treasurers, Secretary**

- **Supported by other committee members with specific roles e.g. events, pool, publicity, grants and lottery.**

- **We also have Year reps for each class in school and Early Years – these people deal with year communications and funding requests**

## **How the PTA benefits pupils**

**Without a PTA in place, our school would have no fundraising support. We support Christmas parties, year 6 PGL and leavers activities, we provide the buses for the whole school pantomime each year, we support individual funding request from classes and most of all, are incredibly rare in that we fundraise and manage the pool as a committee.**

**We work closely with Mr Milner, the Governors and all the teachers to understand what is needed - and we are really proud of what has been achieved this year.**

**Key successes from this academic year**

**This year, I think we can all agree the most inspired fundraising event was the skydive! Not only did it raise a whopping £37000 towards the costs of our pool, it really showed us all how much the pool is valued in our community. A huge thank you to Lisa Williams, Sue Tabb, Rob Higgins, Andrew Perry and Steve Hynes for being brave enough to do this for us! Another special thank you to our generous donor Lisa whose Dad was one of the original founders of the pool… her generous donation meant that we could start the pool repairs this summer. I would like to mention Ally here as this took a lot of hard work, especially as it had to be rescheduled twice and I know she worked really hard to keep all the jumpers feeling motivated and happy.**

**It has been so wonderful this summer to see the progress Aquascape have been making on the pool: from rubble at the beginning of the summer to now seeing the walls complete and all the details going in! We cannot wait for the children to get swimming again next summer.**

**We have also been able to provide school with a whole class set of tablets to support the curriculum and a whole class set of glockenspiels to support whole class music** , as well as the normal thinks like coaches to the Panto, funding year six leavers actvites and gifs, and donatng £100 to each class for general spending ~~!~~

**We have had some new FOLSS members join this year and we are really grateful to you all for all your new ideas and events!**

## **Special thank yous**

**Everybody here tonight, thank you so much. It really does take a village to put on an event, from all the planning, the logistics and then the event itself! We really do value everyone on our lovely committee.**

**One of our wonderful volunteers is stepping down from her FOLSS role: Karen. Thank you so much Karen for everything you have done for FOLSS. Your games you made for the Christmas Fayre are still going strong almost two years on and are still looking amazing! You gave up so much of your own time for sorting the second hand uniform and for putting on the sales and we really appreciate it.**

And Ellie is stepping down from her Co-Chair positon – Ellie, words are not enough to describe what you do for FOLSS, we are so so so grateful for all the tme, efort and hard work you have put in as Chair over the last two years. Thank you! And also thank you for staying on the commitee and taking up the secretary role.

We’d also like to thanks Danni for agreeing to step up as Co-Chair alongside Ally.

Ally is planning to step down from the Chair role at the end of this academic year. A think we can all agree fve years is a good stnt – so if you think you might be up for taking over next year, please let us know.

As well as our committee, there are a few additional people we’d like to mention:

- To all the teachers to come along to meetings and events

- Thank you to Sue Tabb and the Governors for all their help with the pool

- The school families who have helped out with events this year,

- And to our families. the team of FOLSS families who have joined in with working parties! Most of all to our mini FOLSS committee, our children. The reason we do this and our biggest supporters who never complain when they have to stay behind or come in at the weekend!

As well as all of these wonderful people, we’d like to give a big thank you to the businesses who have supported us this year. Be that with financial donations, equipment and resources, raffle prizes etc – we couldn’t do it without you.

## **The Year ahead**

The pool has been a huge undertaking financially and we are already starting to plan events to make sure we can continue to provide extra resources for school over the coming months. We will also be opening the pool next summer and we intend to celebrate this long-awaited reopening!

## **How you can get involved**

We’re always on the hunt for more people to join FOLSS - particularly to run fundraising events and to help with the annual raffle. Whether you want to hold a specific role or dip in and out, you are most welcome.

If you would like to get involved, contact one of the Chairs (Ally or Danni) or email friendsofleonardstanleyschool@gmail.com
