Objectives

To enhance the development and resources available to the children of primary school age, by encouraging the parents to support the parents association by: 1. Offering appropriate education and care facilities, together with the right of parents to take responsibility for, and to become involved in, the activities such as events, ensuring the events offer opportunities for all children, whatever their race, culture, religion, gender, means or ability. 2. Encouraging the study of the needs of such children and their families and promoting public interest in and recognition of such needs.

The Parents Association of Grove Wood Primary School raise money by holding annual events for the school and wider community to attend. However, due to COVID, events were restricted and fundraising was limited to seasonal gift shops and selling tickets for Adventure Island, Southend Sealife and Adventure Golf.

PAGWPS attempted to hold their first Christmas Fair since COVID in December, however due to a spike in Scarlett Fever cases in school and the local area, the Health Authority advised we were unable to go ahead with the event. They also cancelled all Christmas productions to parents, which also tend to raise funds as cash ‘loose change’ donations.

Since COVID and the financial situation of our parents we have held less events than we had previously, trying to ensure we do not ask our parents to pay for too many fundraising activities.

Expenditure relating to these fundraisers are included in the expenditure total above.

This year we paid towards Mugs commemorating the Queen’s Jubilee, the Teachers2Parents text messaging service and a ‘Silly Science’ day. We also still have in our bank accounts the £40,000 donation towards the MUGA which is currently going through planning permission.

Public Benefit

Throughout the year the charity has operated with due regard to its objectives as stated above, for the children of the primary school.

The charity has encouraged the involvement of the wider community in their events, such as the selling of theatre tickets and the selling of Adventure Island, Southend Sealife and Adventure Golf tickets. The cancelled Christmas Fair would also have been open to the wider community.
