The Airfield Volunteer Fire Service has no paid members, all members are volunteers and give their time freely. The Airfield Volunteer Fire Service relies on all members giving as much time as they can to keep the service operating successfully.

The annual review by the Civil Aviation Authority took place and we are meeting the required standards.

The Airfield Volunteer Fire Service has retained the working relationship with Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. In May 2024 the Airfield Volunteer Fire Service Charity was Donated a service van by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to support the fund raising and information stall attend events. The support to the AVFS by BFRS is very much appreciated.

A previously used Scania fire pump was purchased in March 2025 by the charity and donations from members of the crew, this now replaces the Old Volvo pump which was getting by its sell by date and has now been kitted out and put on the run.

The Airfield Volunteer fire Service Charity applied to 3 local trusts for funding to purchase new personnel protection equipment for all its firefighting crew and was successful in obtaining the funding to purchase 23 sets of new PPE as the old fire kit was worn out and out of date.

Membership remains consistent and we recognise we could do with more members, Recruitment continues on an ongoing basis with an active campaign for the forthcoming year to recruit more members.

Funding is always an issue to operate and maintain the service, as now 2 of our 3 landrover fire vehicles need urgent replacement as they are becoming unreliable in time of need the cost of each vehicle being around 120,000 and we need 2 to carry on our work. It was considered we had an uneconomic and non-financially viable situation and an alternative business solution needed to be sought. After extensive negotiation a resolution was presented to the membership whereby the Shuttleworth Trust would absorb the core business interest and of the AVFS into their portfolio which would provide a stable financial basis upon which the AVFS could operate and develop in future years. The charity would still be retained at this time and would look to work closer with another charity at the same venue.

## **Future Plans.**

The trustees look forward to developing the relationships with The Shuttleworth Trust, The Shuttleworth Veteran Aeroplane Society and Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to continue providing what we are good at.

## **Financial review.**

The Airfield Volunteer Fire Service has made no profit this year. Any surplus income and saved funds and have been reinvested back into the charity for the purchase of equipment.
