Oakridge Hall For All Chairperson’s Report April 2022
Our last AGM feels like a lifetime ago. Covid has been a trauma we have come through and so many people have been deeply affected by. We are here tonight for the first time in nearly three years.
I want to acknowledge how well we have survived as a community centre, but we’ve done more than that, we’ve done so many good things during Covid. Our staff and users have all stood by the Centre and we are now in a very strong position going forward.
I’d particularly like to say a big thank you to our two managers Lucy and Terri, who have been stalwarts during this challenging time. Their commitment to our community centre is second to none. I have said this before, we are very lucky to have them both. I’d also like to thank Carl for his commitment to the community centre. He has now left to start a new job and we wish him well. We’re delighted that Fran has taken over his role, we warmly welcome her to the Hall For All team, she is no stranger to our community centre.
Our users stood by the Hall during Covid and they were really understanding and tolerant of the difficulties we have faced. I’m pleased that we came through Covid, which I know is not over, with those users and they are all back in the centre.
A big thank you to two members of our volunteer team, Elaine and Maureen, who are running a superbly successful coffee morning for the over 55s. What is nice is that we haven’t stood still or rested on our laurels, we have reflected on how we move forward as a Hall and lots is planned to take us forward. I know Lucy and Terri will update you on all of these plans tonight.
It was disappointing that we weren’t successful in our bid for levelling up funding. But, it was a very oversubscribed pot of money. We have been successful, however, in achieving other funding and again I know that Lucy and Terri will update you on all that has been achieved.
The Borough Council has signed up to the Climate Change Emergency ideals and made a commitment for the council and all its assets, including Community Centres to be Zero Carbon by 2025. We have been discussing our sustainability plan and being clear about our actions and how we propose to meet this challenge. Again, Lucy and Terri will update you.
I’d like to thank all of the committee members for their commitment to our Community Centre. A big thank you to Neil and Matt for their work on our communications strategy. I’d like to welcome Paul Basham as our new Trustee alongside Paul Harvey.
I brought the Borough Councils new Chief Executive out to visit the Hall and he was exceptionally impressed with all we do, he said it is the best example of a community centre he has visited in the country.
I would like to thank Michael Rebbeck who audits our accounts. It is good to know we are in a sound financial position.
I hope you will support me this evening to continue as Chair of the Hall for All.
