Because three of the remaining Trustees were unable to attend in person, it was not possible to achieve a quorum at meetings, and so the vacancies could not be filled.

## **Structure, Management and Governance**

**Type of governing document:** Constitution adopted 2002 revised 22.03.2015

**How the charity is constituted:** We are an unincorporated association. Membership of the Association consists only of the members of the British Chihuahua Club.

**Trustee selection:** Trustees are elected annually by members at the Annual General Meeting. Any casual vacancies are filled by co-option at the discretion of the committee.

New trustees receive a copy of the constitution along with a general guidance document which includes guidance on public benefit.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The object of the Association as stated in our Constitution is to relieve the suffering and distress of Chihuahua dogs in need of care, attention or rehoming as a result of ill treatment, hardship, neglect or change of circumstances.

In furtherance of these objectives, when contacted by people with a Chihuahua that requires rehoming, we attempt to find the most suitable new home for it and arrange adoption. Dogs may sometimes also be fostered with one of our members for as long as necessary. We pay travel costs to the volunteers who collect and deliver dogs, and a daily amount towards the cost for those fostering. We pay for necessary medical and other treatment for dogs coming into rescue, and also sometimes for

adopted dogs in cases of **h** ardship or where dogs have been reho **m** ed with ongoing medical issues.

This activity is of benefit to members of the public who are n **o** longer able for whatever reason to contin **u** e to look after their dog(s) and wish to know they will be properly cared for, as well **a** s assuring the welfare of the dogs conc **e** rned.

## **Achievements and Performance**

We found new homes for twelve dogs during the year, a small increase over the previous year. £1,550.0 **0** was received in donations when t **h** ese dogs were relinquished and rehomed but related vet bills and expenses amou **n** ted to £2,080.50 resulting in a net cost to th **e** Association of £530.50. We continued to support older dogs with medical conditions. A total of ten older dogs incurred veterinary bills wh **i** ch were met by the Association, totalling £5,954.18.

## **Financial Review**

In spite of increasing expenses, further legacy receipts during 2022 gave rise to an increase of £65,034.24 in **t** he Association’s funds at the end of the year, with a final total of all balances of £468,201.93. The financial position of the Association and its ability to continue in op **e** ration thus remain very sound. O **u** r normal yearly expenditure is under £10,000 per year and so we have a goo **d** reserve against unexpected problems or a **l** onger term shortage of income.

Most of our income is fro **m** donations or legacies and interest o **n** investments. In some years we are able t **o** benefit from the sale of small items **o** f merchandise or donated items at the Club’ **s** dog shows or other events, however t **h** is income stream is not predictable thus kee **p** ing a strong reserve is important.

## **Declaration**

The Trustees declare that **t** hey have approved this report.

Signed on behalf of the ch **a** rity’s trustees:

Bernard Coxhead (Chairm **a** n) 2nd December 2022
