The Neuroanaesthesia & Critical Care Society is a Registered Charity, Number 1094094.
It was established by Trust Deed dated 22 March 2002, as amended on 6 April 2015 and
ratir￿d on 8 May 2015.
Objectives and activities
The objectives of the chaiity are -
To promote and advance education in and the study of the art and Science of
neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care, principally by means of the exchange of
inforniation among the Societys Members for the benefit of the general public, and in
furtherance thereof:_
- To promote education in neuroanaeslhesia and neurocritical care.
- To promote high standards of practice and patient care in the fields of neuroanaesthesia
and neurocritical care.
- To encourage research in the fields of neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care.
To arrange and provide for the holding of meetings, lectures and classes, including an
Annual Scientific Meeting, to provide a forum for the exchange and advancemenl of
thowledge on neuroanaesthesia arKI neurocritical care.
To award annual prizes{s) for the best paperfs) submitted to the Society by doctors in
trdining or allied health professionals.
To offer advice to appropriate bodies or individuals conceming neuroanaesthesia arKI
neurocritical care.
The charity may accept gifts, donations, subscriplions and legacies.

The names of the trustees are shown on page 1.
The trustees are appointed by the Council of the Th8 Neuroanaesthesia & Crltlcal Care
Society. This Council shall comprise the President, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary
Treasurer as Executive Officers, the Immediate Past Presldent and up to slx Members
elected from the full membership of the Society.
Risk management
The trustees review the major risks which the charity faces on a regular basis and believe
that the charity holds sufficient reserves to provide adequate resources to meet it's
obligations to all appropriate beneficiaries in the event of adverse conditions.
Publlc benefit
The charlty trustees confinn that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the
gUIdan￿ on publlc beneflt publlshed by the Commission in exercising their powe￿ or duties.
2023 Flnanclal Objecllves
The following were outlined as key areas:
Seniice Level Agreements for day-to-day conduct of business (using the Association of
Anaesthetists) and Annual Scientific Meeting administration.
Business partnerships in light of new GDPR enforcement.
Increasing awareness of membership of charitable outgoings.

Revision of Ihe Servi￿ level agreement with a professional event organising company
to ensure high quality delivery of educational events and reduce the workload of the
council members (who work In a voluntary capacity).

the charitys finances remain in a satisfying stste and would make the following comments on
the financial ststements:
1 The trustees are pleased to report that the ASM Nottingham 2023 ran as a cost neutral event.
this VRS possible thrythout increasing the delegale registration fee because of excellent support
from exhibitors and the industry sponsors.
2 The winter virtual meeting also VRS conducted at no increased cost to delegates. but this year
again was close to being cost neutral.
3 Increasing costs from the Event Management Company. As well as increase in venue costs
has reduced the reV￿U8. The trustees and and council members were cogniscent of the
potential negative returns on the events. choosing to provide quality educational events. using
financial reserves of the society to achieve this.
4 The ASM was held in the east midlands conference facility In Nottingham.
5 There was a significant increase in the sponsorshiplexhibitors revenue reflecting excellent
y￿rk by councll and local organislng committee. All exhibitors and sponsorship functioned
within the legislation r8garding support of charity education events.
6 Conference expenses as per the Ststement of Account. include £11.250.00 of costs relating
to future years conferences.
7 Subscription income was up on last year.
8 The society benefited from Industry Partnership money to the value of £45,293. The
sponsors were manufacturers of monitor and theatre equipment and a legal firm
that provides pro bono support for patients and families affected by brain and spinal
injuries.
9 There were awards to the value of £900 for trainee presentations 8nd medals for
outstanding contributions to neurocritical care.
10 Research and travel grants to the value of £3.51Y) were given to promote education
and research in the fidd of neuroanaesthesia and neurocritical care.
11 During the year £2.628 was spent on website development costs.
12 Bank charges have increased by £475 from the previous year.
13 The Society has chosen to archive and store historical documents of greater than 6 years.
14 During the year the Honorary Treasurer sought professional advice on the chariws
finances on behalf of the trustees. The Honorary Treasurer role was taken on by
Dr Sebastian (Elected Council Member) in May 2023.
Reserves pollcy
The charty maintains unrestricted funds at a level sufficient to enable the income to cover
anticipated distribution payments in forthcoming years as if no other sources of incom8 are
avai18ble.

for the Year Ended 31 December 2023
Trustees. responsibilities in relation to the financial statements
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees, Report and the financial ststements
in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Accounting Standards (United
Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice).
Law applicable to charities in England and Wales requires the trustees to prepare financial
statements for each financial year. which give a true and fair view of the charitys financial
activities during the year and of its financial position at the end of the year. In preparing
those financial statements, the trustees are required to:
i) select suitable accounting policies and apply them consistently;
li) make judgments and estimates that are reasonable and prudent;
iii) state whether applicable accountlng stsndards and ststements of recommended praclice
have been followed subject to any departures disdosed and explained in the financial
statements:
iv) prepare the financial statements on the going concem basis unless it is inappropriate
to presume that the charity will continue in business;
v) observe the methods and principles in the charities SORP.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with
reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and which enable them to
ensure that the financial ststements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also
responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity and for taking reasonable steps for the
prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.

I report on the accounts of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2023 which are set
out on pages 6 to g.
Respective responslbllltles of trustees and examiner
As the charity's trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's
trustees consider that an audit is not required for the year under section 144{2) of the
Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my
responsibility to:
examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act
follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity
Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act. and
- state whether particular matters have come to rny attention
Basis of independent examinerfs report
My examination was carried out in accordance wilh the General Directions given by the
Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the
charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes
consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations
from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The prO￿dureS undertaken do not
provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequenlly no opinion is
given as to whether th8 accounts present a 'true and falr vlew, and Ihe report is limited lo
those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examlner's ststement
In connection with my examinalion no matter has come to my attention;
1 which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect th8
requirements:
- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 130 of the 2011 Act, and
to prepare accounts which accord wlth the accounting records and comply
with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act
have not been met, nor
2 to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper
understanding of the accounts to be reached.

1 Accounting policies
Basis of accounting
The accounts have been prepared using the receipts and payments method.
The financial ststements have been prepared in accordance with the Statement of
Recommended Practice "Accounting by Charities" prepared by the Charity
Commissioners for England and Wales and in accordance with applicable accounting
standards.
