FOUNDER'S
REPORT 2022
Dear Supporters.
As I look back at the events of 2022. 1 see a graph pointing
decisively upwards More funds raised. more scholars supported in
ever more ways. more connection with our alumni. In short.. thanks
to the incredible support we have received from people like you.
and the exceptional passion. diligence and accountability of our
team. we are able to do more than we ever have before to produce
a generation of young leaders the world so badly needs.
In 2022. we raised just over RIO.000.000. In a tough geopolitical
climate. that is an incred ible achievement.. a reflection not only of
the diligence and flair of our development team. led by Stacey-
Anne Maritz. but of the results our scholars achieve. Our scholars
and alumni are the proof that the Kay Mason Foundation's unique
formula of support. accountability and love works.
In 2022. we formalised our ethical leadership curriculum to give
scholars a formal framework for developing their own ethics and
vision.
Launched by Sir Mo Ibrahim. we paired Kay Mason
Foundation scholars with alumni led by Kay Mason Foundation
alumna and Fulbright Scholar Ziyana Lategan and asked them to
look across Africa for inspiring models of leadership. Scholars
worked with mentors to select the leader they most admired. and
presented thei r conclusions in a competition brill iantly adjudicated
by Hosh Ibrahim. himself an inspiring young leader.
RICHARD MASON
When I founded the Kay Mason Foundation nearly 25 years ago. I
had a vision that one day there would be a community of brilliant
young people. bonded by experience. who wanted to change the
world for the better. Guesswhat? It happenedl

I have had several opportunities in 2022 to meet our alumni and to
bring them together. We have hosted retreats that allowed old
friendships to deepen and new ones to spark. What strikes me
most about these gatherings is the scholars. kindness and affection
for one another.
The atmosphere isn't competitive
it's
collaborative and connected.
These retreats will nurture a
community of collaborators who can join forces to tackle tough
problems. from supporting the rule of law to reducing youth
unemployment. currently at an all-time high.
Our Catapult Program already organises impactful Career Days and
international mentorshi ps. as well as supporting our scholars in the
transition to higher education.
With our Junior and Senior
programs run so brilliantly by Almarie Slazus and Stephanie Kotze.
I have been able to focus on developing the Kay Mason Foundation
Alumni Community. Supported by Alvina Naidoo. this has involved
a major outreach program identifying our scholars. reconnecting
with previous program graduates. and opening doors for them as
they progress into adulthood. business and public service.
None of this work would be possible without our donors.
volunteers. supporters and staff. Every time you support us by
donating your time. expertise. contacts. money or all of the above.
you playyour part in making the miracle happen.
I'm delighted to welcome Hollywood legend Lesley-Ann Brandt.
star of LUCIFER. as a Kay Mason Foundation Global Ambassador. I
know I speak for them. and our global trustees. when l emphasize
our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of
governance while allowing our programs to respond flexibly to the
needs of the peoplewe support
I sense more miracles unfolding in 2023 and beyond.
With deepest gratitude,
Richard Mason

The year 2022 was when the world went back to 'normal'. after a few confusing
years in routine and structure. The Kay Mason Foundation ensured that the
focus for the year was on the students and to ensure they could get back to
what mattered. their education. The team ensured there was a theme each
month to focus on. like sustainability. leadership and being yourself.
CHAIRLADY'S
REPORT 2022
The Kay Mason Foundation team has been a source of stability within the
organisation. being exceptionally led upfront by Lauren Bright. Stability was the
focus in the form of Lindie Ammon celebrating 10 years of service at the Kay
Mason Foundation. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication and passion
Lindie has added to the Kay Mason Foundation. From starting many years ago
by taking the children to uniform fittings. packing stationery boxes. to joining
each event with her enthusiasm and working with each parent. donor. supplier.
and board member. we are grateful to her for her 10 years of dedication.
With rising petrol. inflation. and transportation costs. we have continued our
hybrid approach in tutoring to al low scholars to get additional assistance in the
Kay Mason Foundation's office as well as online at home. Mingah Anthony. as
Academic Support Manager. ensures there is a permanent staff member to
understand the curriculum for each school as well as the challenges and pace of
each school. and this has been a very welcomed addition.
The Kay Mason Foundation scholar support team ensures management in all
areas for the scholars and not just on the education side. This is so well
managed in both the junior and senior programs by Stephanie Kotze and
Almarie Slazus. With a huge achievement of being voted as one of the Top 10
NPO'S in South Africa. the Marketing team's efforts under Stacey-Anne Maritz is
most definitely noticed and appreciated as it allows the Foundation to continue
to grow and help more children. While we assist the children in education. we
also ensure they are mentored by up-standing and highly regarded
professionals acting in the child's interest and Kholo Magongoa runs this
program very efficiently.
In recognising the amazing achievements of the team and scholars. while
ensuring the budgetwas managed efficiently and effectively. l am very proud to
present this Annual Report as a reflection of the professional and ethical work
the staff and trustees have accomplished. This year proved. yet again. how
resilient we are. We say thank you and express our gratefulness for each and
every donor. volunteer. mentor. alumni. scholar. team member and trustee.

Wishing everyone a thankyou for the ethics you add,
