ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORWNCE
Introductlon
The Trustees have pleasure in recording that the Charlty has had another successful and productive year,
despite contlnued external turbulence. Thts year, we have seen the number of users atces5ing our seNSces
returnlng to pre Covld levels, a5 many people rebuild their confidence to access in person support. Kev
servlce points include:

Support for people with a range of mental health need. We have made prov151on for people with
complex and severe mental illness, for whom muslc therapy is the only treatment they acce55 for
recovery, or where it Is an important factor in their overall care. Alongside this. we have offered
mu55( therapy interventlon as a preventative tool to counter worsenin8 mental Illness,. for
maintenance of mental health.
Support for unpaid Carers who access muslc therapy to relieve Isolatlon, for expression and
peer.support.
Our outreach work has continued to grow delivering 13 sesslons as we look to identify and support
those experiencing multiple health inequalities, particularly in areas of deprivation
We are dellghted to report Ihat our outreach programme has contlnued to flourfsh thls year as wi, have
bullt new relationships and relnforced existlng one5. We were pleased to be able to be8in a serie5 of
sesslons at Knowle West Health Park In Brlstol, Closer working relationships with community mental health
teams, varlous teams across the Inte8rated Care Systems and social prescribers during this period has
resulted in a recent, unprecedented level of referrals and more planned outreaches.
We continued to work on raising the profile of Soundwell thls year to support fundlng requests and
awareness within our communities of the services and support we provide.
Through the 8enerous support of Stuff. we were able to launch our new branding In september,
giving us a fresh and professional graphics and updated logo to promote our work.
In November we attended the Quartet annual celebration event at the Brlstol Beacon. We were glven
the opportunity to share our work and celebrate our achievements thanks to the willing support
Quartet have shown us over the yeais,
We a￿ grateful to our friends at the aedminster Quaker Meetin8 House, Bristol, and the Scout HQ
8ath, who provide stable. calm space for the work to continue. Also to Stuff, TLT Solicitors and GA Agency
who have all provided valuable pro bono servi￿$ across the year supporting governance, and the creaticn
of professional marketing materials to promote our work.

New funding was secured this year to be8ln a 15 Month project in B&NES looklng to address health
inequalltles and Improve access to services to those in areas of increased deprivatlon Indudlng Twerton
and Whlteway. Work continued on delivering our Global Make Some Noise funded 20 week se55ions across
Bristol and Bath, which will continue into 2024125.
We have been able to maintain a stable year in the face of an external environment that continues to put
pre55ure on people's mental health. We Will continue to monltor our finances closely as we enter a year of
higher Inflation and significant rise5 in the cost of living - recognlslng the impact on Staff, the charity and
our clients.

referrers, consultlng with current clients on their therapeutic goals, preferred formats and wishes for

A trainee for the MA course in Musie Therapy, from the University of the West of England IUWEI has been
on placement this year. Other trainees have come for contextual visits. Soundwell are pleased to support
trainee music theraplsts in their development, contrlbutlng to and benefittin8 from the next generation of
muslc therapists.

The net result was a deficit of £40,759 for the perlod12023.' £22,425 surplus), when added to balances
brought forward, the Trust had net funds at the year-end of £51,182 unrestricted funds12023.' £61,767)

Sounowell continue5 to monitor its financial posltion carefully as the Impact of inflation and the cost of
living Increase5 are felt. The Senior Staff Team produce regular financial reports and detailed ca5hflow
projections for the Treasurer, Trustees and Senior Staff Team to enable them to monitor the flnanciil
posltlon throughout the year, This information Is Used to measure the performance of the charbty, foresee
potential problems. and make Informed declslons across the organisation.

charity. The principal objective Is to preserve and protect mental health and assist in relieving and

therapv,
The charity is governed by a board of Trustees who are detailed on pa8e 8, The Board makes deci5ion5 on
the annua budget. formulates policy and consider5 Strategic Issues which affect the organi53tion. The
Dirertorls and management team are responsible for the day to day running and management of the
charity. A Scheme of Delegation was approved in January 2017. setting out the roles and responsibilitles of
Trustees and those matters deleEated to the Directorls.
Appointment of Trustees
The B )ard of Trustees appoints new Trustees as follows.. potential Trustees are identlfied with èttentlon
paid (o relevant skills and experience. Trustee ski115 audits are regularly completed to inform the
recruitment pro￿$$. They are shown copies of the constitution, annual report and Ilterature relating to
responsibilitles of charltable Trustees. Once identified, potential Trustees are invited to attend 2 Truste. s
meetings as an observer prior lo a mutual decision being made as to their suitability.

The Board of Trustees re8ularly reviews and identifies the key rlsks to the Charlty and its operatlons. The
Bcard contlnue to conslder two of the most siEnificènt ris￿ to be financial sustainability and Safe8uardin8.
In relatlon to Finan￿. the Board reviews the financial position and perfoimance of the Charity at each
meeting. and artively tonsiders the lon8-term cash position on a 12-month rolling basis. This enables the
Board to identify any potential financial uncertainties well in advance and put In place any measures should
they be required. The Board are a150 taking an active role in the strategic plans for other sources of
voluntary income.
The 8oard places great emphasis and Importance in relation to Safe8uardin8. All staff and trustees have up
to date safeguarding tralnin8 at level 2 or 3 as appropriate for the role. We have a150 been mindful that
there are dlfferent safeguardin8 issue5 when providin8 remote Services than face to face. The Trustee
Safeguarding Lead continue5 to help monitor both policy and prattlce In thls area.
Reserv•$ pollcy and luture plans
Soundwell has deemed a reseNe figures of £68.6CKI to be appropriate, calculated as;

The Resenies Pollcy is revlewed annually as part of Soundwell's financial planning. The trustees wlll

The current level of reserves stands at £93.216, of which £51,182 are free reserves, The trust wlll look to
rebuild the reserve In the coming year to malntain the financlal resllience of the charity through
unrestrlcted glvin8 and community fundraising,
Our vision for 2025 Is for a thriving muslc therapy service, supporting those with high levels of need in the
South West. With the ripples of the current economlc crlsis bein8 felt across the country. and it'5 myriad
impact on mental health, our servlce is ever more in demand. As the current year presents us wlth flnancial
challen8es we wlll work towards creatlng a robust flnanclal basis to deliver our full range of sepllces and
respond to new prknrfty groups, creatively.

with the Financial Reportlng Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland IFRS 1021
