SECRETARY’S/TRUSTEE’S REPORT
AS PRESENTED TO THE ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 24 [th] July 2022 [Via Online]
FOR THE PERIOD 1 [ST] APRIL 2021 - 31 [ST] MARCH 2022
Brothers/Sisters-in-Islam,
ASSALAM-O-ALAIKUM
July 29 [th] 2021, will be 39 years since the formation of LICS; we continue to support and help
our congregation and wider community despite hard years of uncertainty due to the covid
pandemic. This year 2021-2022 continues to be a difficult and trying year as we continue to
recover from the Covid-19 Pandemic.
National Lockdowns and phased reopening have significantly affected the ability to run all
services as they were stopped or run online.
The President and Trustees continued to represent LICS in several initiatives working in
partnership in person and online with the NHS, Mortality Groups, London Borough Haringey,
Metropolitan Police, Age Concern, Faith Groups, Mosques, Civic events, and other agencies.
Trustees, Volunteer Helpers, members, local brothers, and sisters make positive efforts by
working with all communities utilising various modes of communication and support. LICS
continues to be a role model for others to follow.
The President and Trustees continue to advocate on behalf of families/individuals with the local
authority, housing, or benefits agencies to ensure a successful outcome. This work is built on
and continues from year to year. Many things changed in the last two years as our charity had to
find other ways of connecting with members and the community as we faced a devastating
period of the pandemic. Recovery for the charity has been slow as people are hesitant in
attending events for fear of catching covid or other infections. This undoubtedly affects income
generating methods such as lettings or donations for use of the wedding facilities.
----- End of picture text -----

In January 2022 President Bibi Khan was awarded and recognised for an MBE for the work carried out in the community. Our President received her award from Prince Charles at Windsor Castle. In February 2022, Bibi was also appointed as a Deputy Lieutenant of Haringey, Greater London by the Lord Lieutenant. Once again, the work of LICS has been recognised, the President continues to represent LICS in the community encouraging cohesion amongst all.

LICS lost many of our role models and families continue to struggle with depression, with our young children having to be nurtured back into society. LICS are represented on Faith Groups, London Faith & Beliefs Forum, SACRE, the Independent Advisory Board [Police], and the Community Health Advisory Board. Representatives of LICS attend many meetings to encourage building bridges in our community and hoping to impact service delivery from all agencies for our diverse community.

LICS maintained yearly contracts for CCTV, PA system, Lift, fire safety and alarms, air conditioning, and gas safety. In addition repairs are carried out as and when necessary and the centre was regularly ‘fogged’ to contain infection on a monthly basis.

Secretary’s Report 21-22 1

MEETINGS/MEMBERSHIP

There are 12 Trustees currently. Membership donations continue to be sporadic as many members were unable to send their contributions or made membership payments online or on terminals. Trustees agreed to continue 2019-2020 as members for 20-21 because of the pandemic. This will be continued for the year 21-22 period also. This will be reviewed for the year 2022-2023.

EVENTS OBSERVED.

Sisters Circles, Madrassah, full prayers, nikkah and weddings all resumed albeit with many Health & Safety guidelines in place particularly numbers within restricted areas. LICS hosted and attended meetings with Multi Faith Forum, Muslim Interfaith, Community Safety, Holocaust Memorial Group, Unsung Women awards, Haringey Heroes award, Community Iftar, Police Recruits, school visits to name a few.

LICS was instrumental in forming the North London Council of Mosques consisting of eleven Mosques in Haringey, Barnet and Enfield with representatives from Waltham Forest.

EDUCATION.

All classes have restarted however with severely reduced numbers of pupils attending, some classes continue online.

OUR IMAMS

Brother Abdul Kadir and Brother Mushtaq Ahmed are LICS Imams who cover the week as job shares. LICS gratefully accepts donations towards the cost of the services provided by the Imams.

Helpers Brahim and Omar provide and monitor access to services run by LICS such as opening and closing the Mosque and safety, security aspects of the charity’s building.

The Mosque continues to be a valuable asset within our local community. LICS encourages non-Muslims to visit the Mosque when it is allowed, and we continue to distribute free copies of the Holy Quran and other related publications. The Mosque continues to welcome and visit different faith groups. We have all worked hard to establish it and most importantly it is a place where we and our families belong – I pray that Almighty Allah will bless, guide, and protect us all and that He will bring us closer to Him.
