IS Sufficient and appropriate to provide a basis for our opinion. The r£sk of not detecting a Material
misstalemenl resulling from fraud is higher than for one resulting from error, as fraiid may inyolve
collusion, forgcry, intentional omissions, misrepresentations, or the Ove￿ide of internal conirol.
Obtain an understanding of internal control relevant lo the audit in order to design audit procedures
that are appropriate in the circumstan¢es, but not for the purpos¢s of expressing an opinion on Ihe
effectiveness of the charitable company's iniernal conlrol.
Evaluate the appropriateness of accounting policies used and the reasonableness of accounting
estimates 2nd related disc105ures made by the trustees.
Conclude on ihe appropriateness of the trnstee5' use of the going concern basis of accounting and,
b￿ed on the audit evidence obtained, wheiher a material uncertainty exists rclaled to events or
¢ondition5 that may cast significant doubi on the ¢haritabl¢ company's abiliry io Continue as a going
concern. If we conclude that a mal¢rial uncertainty exists, we are required to draw attention in our
auditor's report to the related disclobures in the financial staiements or, if such disclosures are
inadequate, to modify our opinion. Our con¢lusions are based on the audit evidence obtained up to the
date of our auditor'b rcport. However, fuiure events OT conditions may ￿uSe thc charitable company
to cease to continue as a going concern.
Evaluaie the overall presentaiion, Structure and conteni of the financial statements. in¢ludillg the
disclosure& and w,hether the financial statements represent the underlying transactions and ¢vcnts in a
manner that achieves fair presentation.
We communicate ivith those charged with governance regardin& among oiher tnatters, the planned s¢ope and
timing of rhe audit and si(mificant audit findings. including any significant defi¢i¢n¢ies in intemal coiitrol that
we ideniiti, during our audit.
Explanation as to what extent the audit Tyas eonsidered c*p4ble of deteeting irregularities, including
Irregularitie& including fraud. are instances of non-compliance with laws and regulations. We design
procedures in line with our respon%ibilities. outlined above, to detect Enaterial misstaitm¢nts in rtspe¢t of
itregularities, including fraud. The extent to which our procedures are ¢apable of detecling irregularities,
including fraud is detailed below.
The objectives of our audit in res]Kci of fraud. are- to identify and assess th¢ risk5 of material misstatemertt of
the financial statements due to fraud; io o￿aIn sufficient appropriaie audit evidence Tegarding the &qessed
risks of material misstatement due io fraud, through designing and implementing appropriaie responses Éo
those assessed risks. aiid to respond appropriaiely io instances of fraud or suspe¢t¢d fraud idenlified during th¢
audit. However. tFie primary responsibility for the prevention and detection of fraud rests with both
management and those charged with governance of ihe charitable company.
Our approach was as follows:
We obtatned an understanding of the legal and regulatory requirements applicable lo the Charitable
compaiiy and considered that ihe most significant are ihe CoTnpanies Act 2006. the Charities A¢t
2011, the Charity SORP, and UK financial reporting standards as issued by ihe Financia] Reporting
Council.
13

the Joseph fi Rank
Irust
We obtained an understanding of how the charitable company complies with ih¢se requirements by
discussions with managemenl and those chargyed with govemance.
We assessed the risk of material misstalemenl of the financial statem¢nts, irEcluding the risk of
material misstatement due to fraud and how it might occur. by holding dis¢ussion5 With management
and t1105e charged with governance.
We inquired of management and ihose Charged with governance as lo any known instances of non-
complian¢e or suspected non-¢ompliance M'ltli laws and regulations.
Based on this understandiR& we designed specific appropriate audit procedures to id¢ntify instances
of non-complian¢e ivith laws and regulaiions. This included making ¢nquiric5 of Inanagemeni and
Ih05e charged with governatkce and obtaining additional corroborative eviden¢e as required.
There are inhereni limitaiions in the audit procedures described above. We are less likely to become aware of
instances of non-compliance wilh laws and regulations that are not closely related to events and transa¢tions
reflected in ihe financial statemenis. Also. the risk of noi detecting a material misstatement due to fraiid is
hi¥Jier than the risk of not detecting one resulting Irom e￿Or, as fraud may involve deliberat¢ con¢ealmeni by?
for example, forgery or inlentional misrepresentations, or through collusion.
Use of our report
This report is made solely to the charitable company's members, as a body. in accordan¢e with Chapter 3 of
Part 16 of th¢ Companies Aei 2006. Our audit work has been undertaken so that we mighi slate to the
company's members those matters ive are required to state to ihem in an auditor's repon and lor no oth¢r
purpose. To the fullest extent perniitted by law. we do not accept or assume responsibility to any parly oth¢r
tlian the charitable company and charitable company's members as a body, for our audil work, for this report,
or for ihe opinions we have fornied.
