The Charity operates for the furtherance of these objects through the playing of and coaching in association football. The trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the Charity should undertake. The Charity is proud of maintaining its status as a FA Charter ‘Development’ Standard Club. It has extensive partnerships across the football spectrum and community offering football to youngsters from 5/6 years of age up to 18 years of age. There are 16 teams/squads in total at the following ages: U7 (1 squad), U8 (1 squad), U9 (1 squad), U10 (1 squad), U11 (2 squads), U12 (1 squad), U13 (3 squads) U14 (1 squad), U15 (2 squads), U16 (2 squads) and U17 (1 squad). Every one of these teams from Under 7s to Under 17s have qualified managers, coaches, assistants and volunteers who are responsible for supporting their allocated squad. In total, over 38 qualified volunteers support the club’s activities. ## **Achievement and performance** This year has once again provided so many enjoyable experiences for so many which is testament to all of our volunteers with the Club who have all yet again worked tremendously hard in the best interests of Rossendale United Junior Football Club. On the football front all our teams have developed, enjoyed their football and camaraderie that playing in a team brings. ## **Financial Review** During the year, despite a 25% increase in total income (2024: £42,291 versus 2023: £33,718) the charity generated a deficit of (£3,631) (2023 deficit of £6,456) due to an increase in expenditure. Expenditure increased by 14% during the year to £45,922 (2023: £40,148) largely as a result of inflationary cost increases across most areas of the charity’s operations. It is the policy of the charity that unrestricted funds which have not been designated for a specific use should be maintained at a level equivalent to between three and six months expenditure. The Trustees consider that reserves at this level will ensure that, in the event of a significant drop in Page 1 ## **Rossendale United Junior Football Club Trustees’ Annual Report for the year ended 31 May 2024** funding, they will be able to continue the charity's current activities while consideration is given to ways of securing additional funding. This, as always, is subject to seasonal variation. The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed and are satisfied that systems are in place to mitigate exposure to major risks. ## **Structure, governance and management** The Trust is an unincorporated associated governed by a constitution adopted 10 July 2000 as amended 2 July 2001, 10 June 2002, 6 December 2002 and 26 November 2020. The trustees who served during the year were Brian Johnston, Christopher Shufflebottom and Helen Edge. For a person to be recruited and appointed as a trustee they must be aged 16 years or older and have no conflicting interests with those of the charity. Trustees are appointed and re-elected at the Annual General Meeting. All volunteers must undergo background checks to reassure parents that volunteers are above doubt. Mr Brian Johnston Chairman Page 2 ## **Rossendale United Junior Football Club Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts** **Report to the trustees of Rossendale United Junior Football Club (Charity no. 1093380) on the Accounts for the year ended 31 May 2024 set out on pages 4 and 5;** ## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner** The charity trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144(1) of the Charities Act 2011) and that an independent examination is needed. The charity trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’) and have elected to prepare the accounts on a receipts and payments basis under section 133 of the Charities Act 2011. It is my responsibility to: - examine the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act ; - follow all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act, and - state whether particular matters have come to my attention. ## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement** My examination was carried out In accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts. ## **Independent examiner’s statement** In the course of my examination no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect: 1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
