In additioffj the Trust maintai￿$ a collection of historic steam engTnes and other machinery held at
Wortley Top Forge. The collectioT] is in the ownership of the South Yorkshire Industria] History
S(tiety and certain related iTKlividuals.
The Trustees have been mindfvl of their duties to maintain th¢ sites and provide a public benefit
in educational amenity. teTmS. Such duties are very much to the fore in the Conservation Plan
which h&% been develo￿ along Historic England guidelines. Work continues Im education and
visitor polictes, with a continlrd emphasis on safety and safeguarding both volunteers and
visit¢)r5 in line with lal¢st guidelines.
During the year the Trust has continued its main wotk of r&storation and Mainte￿Ce at the
Wortley site. This is usually open in the summer half of the year for casual visitors and b). special
arfdngement. This year we were able to owi fully on nomial visitor days and hold all three of
the now traditional eveTJts in May, SepteTnber and DecemtEr. Overa]l it is estitETrated that about
3,200 visitors attended. Ivhenever N)ssible, the ￿￿er wheels are by our guides and various
engtnes are demonstrdted. th￿tng the year we continued to act as a Ven￿ for ph￿OgraphY
shix)ling sessions and ghost hunting events which bring a small but significant n￿nber of visito
and donations. We atso hosted a rM)lice training evenl Sheffield United fiM)tballers and a film
crew making an episode of Yorkshire Greth and Small H'ith Dan and Helen. Athnission fees 2nd
donations from visitors generate income io k used on general repaits and maintenance.
The trustees are sad to retort that the lelevision prOgra￿e M'as the last appwJnce of our lead
guide for many year4 Gordon Parkinso￿ who sadly di￿ during the year.
The archive and research work making use of the facilities at Top Forge Cottage eontinu&l and
we were able to create a lot more publicity atsj historical materiaE.
Work has continued on improving vehicle acc¢5s and parking facilities to mitigate against
problems caused in wet and icy weather.
nail forge at Hoylandswaine was also o￿led on a couple of oc&gsions and 130 visitors were
recorded. A hearth and bellows have been restored to a usable Conditio￿ The sitrs at Rockley are

Reserves Policv
The objectives of the Tn￿ ￿qUi￿ thaL unless $￿Ified by the dorK)r, all fi]nd$ are applied as
soon as possible to maintain the assets in the care of the Tn￿ Therefore, beyond maintsining
suificient fimds for ongoing n￿nIng ¢osts for at least a year ahea4 al￿t £6,1X)O, the trnstees
have no requirement to build up reserves unless a particular project is lo be fimded. Ilowever,
they have resolved to continue to desigi]ate £50,000 of the unrestricted reserves as a contingency
fund for repairs to scheduled buildings. Current projects fall well within the liquid funds
available.
lllvestment Policy
The tn￿te¢S invest the funds of the Trust so to generate Short terni income for restoration
purposes. All fvnds are placed with registered dewsit takers and are under constant review to
tske advantage of the current high interest raies.
Grants
The Trust d￿S not nornall). make grants lo other organisations but can make payments to the
South Yorkshire Industria] History &Kiety where there is a legal requirement for a prOj￿t to be
developed and funded by the legal 0￿7)er.
Risk Policy
The trustees act in conjunction with the Tn￿ee$ of South Yorkshire Industrial Ilistory
Sccieiy to address the risks of maintaining historic buildings and equipmenL Regular safety
audits are cattied out to ensure that the sites are safe when open to the public and that the
members and volunteers are adequa(elv trained and itL8urc¢l
VOLUNTEERS
The trustees wish to record their appreciation of the voluntary work undertaken by oificers,
members and other VolUnttt￿, particularly at Wortley in another busy year. It is estimated that
the value of swh w(MK if &3rried out at commercial tate5. would not than £211000 in the
la# year.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENrs
The Tr￿51 is ¢onlinuing lo follow the Conservation Plan developed for Wort]ey and projects
