Hedgehogs — Chairman’s Report 2020/21
Our activities this over the past 18 months were severely disrupted. The Frensham Sponsored Horse Ride, Farnham Carnival and Parade, Bat & Ball Beerex and the Sponsored Swim had to be cancelled outright. Not Just Jazz, normally a monthly event at the Farnham Maltings, was run sporadically depending on the varying requirements of lockdown.
Notwithstanding this we still managed to carry out some fundraising activities, notably the production and sale of the Love Farnham 2021 Calendar, collection and sale of old and foreign coins, collection of donations to/from our boxes at various points in Farnham and the hire of marquees principally to local pubs needing to accommodate the COVID safety requirements for hosting their clientele. Significantly, we engaged proactively with Farnham’s community, continuing our long-standing support for such activities as Farnham Town Council could run. In particular, The Hedgehogs:

participated as one of the contributing/founding members in the deliberations of the Farnham Coronavirus Support Fund
-
participated in Farnham Connects (formerly the Farnham COVID-19 Coordinating Group)
-
provided marquees and volunteers for the Farnham Hospital Coronavirus assessment centre and for marshalling the Farnham COVID vaccination programme, an activity which is ongoing
-
continued to help local people and organisations in need
-
continued to hire out marquees when as required by the community, and
-
supported Brightwells Gostrey with the delivery of their food service etc. and helped the Farnham Foodbank with the distribution of food parcels.
As Chairman of The Hedgehogs it has been an honour and a privilege to have worked with our members who, this past year, have never once flinched from facing and rising to the challenges thrown at our community by the pandemic.

FINANCIAL YEAR 2020-2021
TREASURER’S REPORT: Steve Tilburn
Please refer to the 2020/2021 Accounts.
Due to COVId-19 and its effect on our activities, the Income generated in the year was approximately 30% of FY 2019-2020 at some £30,000.
Our major income generator, The Frensham Sponsored Horse Ride (FSHR), had to be cancelled and receipts taken in the last financial year refunded. Pleasingly, around 50%ofthe riders chose to donate their entry fees rather than take a refund.
The major income generators were Marquee & PA Hire at some £9,500 and Calendars which generated around £8,000 — a large proportion of which was generated by online sales.
Online selling was a new experience and was more successful than anticipated. In the ‘New Normal’, this experience of online selling will be valuable as the success of many future events will require this means of generating Income.
Again, Old & Foreign Money plus Collection Boxes contributed over £2,000 and has been consistently providing this level of funding over several years.
The level of donations was over £6,000 and was a welcome amount; together with Gift Aid of over £3,000 — the two accounted for around 30 % of our Total Income of £30,000 in the year.
Thanks are due to those who also supported our less prominent events such as ‘Not just Jazz’, ‘Summer Tea Tent in Gostrey Meadow’ and a new smaller event ‘Xmas Card Sales’. The smaller events are valuable in promoting the name of the Hedgehogs around the town and keeping our visibility high. They must not be forgotten but need to be nurtured and supported by more of the membership to keep up our profile with Farnham and surrounding villages.
