## **Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 August 2025**

The trustees present their report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 August 2025. The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).

## **MESSAGE FROM TRUSTEE**

As we consider the objectives we have met in another year gone by, we are humbled and overflowing with appreciation. Once again, we have touched the hearts of hundreds of vulnerable youth by demonstrating to them what it means to use one's strengths to grow, to accept responsibility for oneself, and to have a positive outlook on life.

Concurrently, there has been a remarkable surge in the quantity of volunteers who have come forward to donate their time and efforts to help the neighbourhood.

Parents, schools, the community at large, and of course the young people themselves have all provided rich and positive feedback, reporting some beautiful, wholesome, and growth-filled days together.

Additionally, at times, feedback has been really helpful in guiding us towards progress and posing queries like what more can our young people want to see provided for and how we can better serve them? Towards that goal, we are eager to roll out some exciting new features and expand our methods in which we can serve the community. We are grateful to our funders and donors for helping us have another successful and enjoyable year. On behalf of the Give Youth a Break team, let me personally extend my gratitude to you.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Objectives and aims**

In setting objectives and planning activities, the Trustees have given due consideration to general guidance published by the charity commission relating to public benefit. To improve life and alleviate the needs of children and youth by:

o Offering leisure and recreational activities that are offered in the name of social welfare and are intended to enhance their living conditions.

o Offering assistance and programs that help them develop the skills, capacities, and abilities necessary to participate in society as responsible, mature adults, though advancement of leisure and recreational activities for children and young people who would otherwise have difficulty accessing such facilities due to their social, economic or physical circumstances.

o The advancement of any additional solely charitable goals and objectives that the trustees deem appropriate, provided that these are recognized as such by English and Wales.

## **Our aims:**

Well-being, not grades, is how we gauge success. At GYAB, personal growth is the measure of success. Every child has enough room to grow and thrive.

## GYAB is distinct:

o Open-ended choices: youth select the activities they want to participate in; o User-focused - our youth-led board suggests activities, oversees programs, and assists users; o Accredited club with a strong indication to the people in our community that we appreciate sustainability and long-term construction.

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Public benefit**

The Trustees confirm their compliance with the duty to have due regard to the Public Benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission when reviewing the charity's aims and objectives and in planning future activities.

The continuous rise in living expenses, coupled with mental and emotional difficulties at home, feels like a stifling grip on low-income and vulnerable parents. In order to help parents become more resilient and brave in both their personal health and wellbeing and their parenting abilities, GYAB has been offering handholding and support.

Giving parents chances in their personal and professional lives has been a special educational opportunity for GYAB. We have helped parents develop a more positive self-image and sense of confidence. Here is where GYAB contribution is most effective in helping parents examine their own lives and determine what makes them happy.

## **Safeguarding:**

We are dedicated to upholding and following policies and procedures for safeguarding at all times. Volunteers have recently received safeguarding training. Every volunteer knows how to report any concerns they may have about safeguarding, including to the local authorities, and they also know the proper steps to take in the event that they have doubts about a child's safety. Every volunteer undergoes the necessary screening to ensure they are qualified to work with children. In order to establish a watchful and secure culture within the organisation, the trustees and the director make sure that safeguarding records, documents, processes, and procedures are successfully implemented. The parents have expressed their satisfaction with the way their children are treated and kept safe and happy.

## **Our primary pursuits:**

- A weekend and after-school programme for underprivileged kids; o An annual retreat in a rural area where kids unwind and have healthy fun.

- Outings and gatherings that incorporate sports and activities that the kids would not otherwise be able to participate in.

- Festival parties where kids can develop their social skills and sense of belonging.

- Subsidised treatments and mentoring for urgent cases.

## **VALUE ADHERENCE TO BEST PRACTISES AND QUALITY**

In order to increase the efficacy of our programs, we assess and track them with dedication to quality and best practices. We adhere to child protection protocols and collaborate with school administration teams to guarantee that safeguarding concerns are addressed appropriately. We support our youth leaders and volunteers to ensure best practices by providing regular supervision, guidance, and expert support from senior staff members and trusted partners.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE Charitable activities**

## **EXECUTIVE SUCCESSES AND PERFORMANCE**

The charity runs a social youth club for socially excluded children and young people, aiming to provide them with extra-curricular, cultural and recreational activities as well as therapy where necessary. Weekly sessions are held at a local school, with larger events taking place throughout the year. These include music and drama evenings, inspirational speakers, recreational trips, festive meals, exhibitions and competitions.

## **Annual Community party:**

All parents and neighbourhood children were invited to partake in a community party, where they were treated to an evening of inspiration and good food. With 89% of the community members present, the party encouraged a sense of unity, belonging and friendship - and the feedback we received has been outstanding.

## **Drama play:**

At the conclusion of another successful year, our primary-school-aged children performed for the wider community in a play that they worked on for over several months. The play depicted the magnificent story of America in the early twentieth century, during the depression, where families and individuals had to tap into their innate strength to rebuild what they had lost. Through this kind of indirect education, our children learnt, in a vivid and real way, about the innate resilience that exists within every human being, and about how to stand up with poise and grace in the face of life's difficulties and challenges.

## **Exercise club:**

The exercise club was held weekly, with an attendance of about 25 children a session. The sessions aim to boost the morale of the children, and be of benefit to their physical image and to their emotional stamina.

## **Leaders support groups:**

Over the past year, three volunteer support groups were arranged. Each one provided invaluable support, encouraged the opportunity for questions and opened the floor for further discussion. At these groups, volunteers were also treated to small gifts to acknowledge their dedication and effort.

## **Newsletter:**

While we aim to produce a termly newsletter, to keep the community updated regarding events that have taken place and ones that will take place, this has not been feasible for us this past year, due to the lack of funds necessary to pay the writers, editors, graphic artists, and printing costs. We hope to be able to reclaim this endeavour in the coming year.

## **After school Club:**

The after school club was established to provide a haven of security, support and growth for disadvantaged children ranging in ages 5 to 15.The club takes place after school and during lunch breaks. Our goal last year was to increase attendance by 30%, and with our goal partially achieved - a 23% increase - we know we are well on the way. We have purchased £2,000 worth of furniture and games to make the club a fun and ap- pealing place where children are able to occupy themselves in a meaningful way.

## **Trips:**

This past spring, we organized a nature-based trip to a park, to inspire and teach our children about the incredible world of nature that we inhabit. In the summer, the children were treated to a day at "Flip Out" where they were able to release energy in a productive and fun-filled way.

## **Annual Weekend Retreat:**

Following last year's success, this year we surpassed our attendance limit of 120 attendees to a full 150 attendees, due in a large part to generous donations and an increase in resources. The weekend retreat aims to give the children a relaxed and pressure-free few days, where they are able to spend time"just being." Schools later reported to have seen the positive difference in their students, post-trip.

## **Library:**

The opening of a book-lending library, starting with 100 brand-new and exciting books, has been a very successful project. Children would like to see an expansion of more books and a more appealing setting.

## **Project ''Green fingers'':**

Page 3

**Give Youth a Break**

## **Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 August 2025**

20 of our children partook in planting and nurturing their own seeds, and watching them come to life. The experience was a highly therapeutic one for the children who were involved, with one ten-year-old commenting, "It's amazing how the seeds become mouldy before growing - that means we can still grow into something beautiful even if we are at a very low point."

The group leaders as well as the club director are all volunteers. The trustees wish to thank all the volunteers for their dedication and enthusiasm.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

## **Financial position**

During the year the charity's income grew to £309,546 (2024: £179,716), reflecting increased grant funding and after-school club income. Expenditure rose more steeply, to £335,902 (2024: £171,171), as the charity expanded its activities and support provision. The result was a deficit of £26,356 (2024: surplus of £8,545), which reduced total funds from £16,275 to (£10,081) at the year end.

The trustees recognise that the rate of cost growth, particularly in administrative and support costs, was not matched by income in the year. They have prioritised returning to a balanced budget and rebuilding reserves in the coming year, as set out in the reserves policy above.

## **Principal funding sources**

A variety of financing sources, such as individual contributions, trust and foundation grants, and user contributions, were used to finance our operations. The financial statements that are attached display the year's performance, and the trustees are happy with them.

The Trustees sincerely acknowledge that the following charitable trusts and foundations, as well as other supporters and community donors, have provided significant and kind support that has allowed for the expansion of services, reach, and positive impact on the lives of children in the community. Many thanks to Souter trust, HDH Wills, Haf Barnet and Awards for all for their generous generous support, amongst our other supporters and community donors.

## **Reserves policy**

The trustees define free reserves as unrestricted funds that are freely available to spend. This excludes amounts represented by tangible fixed assets and investments held for the charity's own use, and excludes restricted funds, which can only be used for their specified purposes

Because the charity relies substantially on grant income that is typically confirmed for limited periods, the trustees consider it appropriate to hold free reserves equivalent to between three and six months of budgeted operating expenditure. This is intended to maintain services during gaps in funding and to provide sufficient cash flow for the organisation's requirements

At 31 August 2025 the charity held total funds of (£10,081).. This is below the target range and reflects an in-year deficit, driven principally by expenditure growing more quickly than income. The trustees recognise that the charity does not currently meet its reserves target and treat the free reserves position as a principal risk. To rebuild reserves, the trustees have agreed to

- prepare and operate a balanced budget for the year ending 31 August 2026;

- review administrative and support costs, which rose significantly during the year;

- broaden the charity's income base beyond time-limited grants; and

- consider whether the listed investments should be realised to ease cash flow.

The trustees will monitor actual results against budget at each meeting and will report on progress in next year's accounts.

## **Going concern**

The charity has net liabilities of £10,081 at the year end and reported an in-year deficit. The trustees have considered the charity's ability to continue as a going concern and [confirm that, having regard to expected income, committed grant funding and planned cost reductions, they consider it appropriate to prepare the accounts on a going concern basis. The trustees will keep this assessment under review.

## **Report of the Trustees for the Year Ended 31 August 2025**

## **FUTURE PLANS**

Our goals and objectives for the future are to keep enhancing the programs and services we already offer to raise the standard of living for both present and new members. Additionally, we intend to increase the number of volunteers and expand our services to the wider community.

## **STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT**

## **Governing document**

The charity is controlled by its governing document, a deed of trust and constitutes an unincorporated charity.

## **Decision making**

The management of the charity is the responsibility of the Trustees who are elected and co-opted under the terms of the Trust deed.

## **Induction and training of new trustees**

It is not the intention of the charity to appoint any new trustees. Should the situation change in the future, the trustees will apply suitable recruitment, induction and training procedures.

## **Employee Appreciation**

At the club, we value and encourage our employees' professional growth. We continuously offer up-to-date workshops and classes to ensure that our clients develop their own skills.

## **Risk management**

The trustees have identified and reviewed the major risks to which the charity is exposed. Both manual and automated checks are regularly invoked, particularly those relating to the operations and finance of the charity. The trustees are satisfied that these systems and procedures mitigate any perceived risks.
