## Annual Report May 2021

## Note to report:

Due to the Current Pandemic It has not been possible for the management Committee and Trustees to hold a conventional AGM in person in the traditional way.

Communication has taken place by email, phone, and digitally, but it is not a wholly satisfactory situation. A normal AGM should be held as soon as is possible. The accounts this year have been independently verified and are included with this report

## **Executive Committee’s Report for year end 3[rd] August 2020**

On behalf of the executive Committee of Trustees, I am pleased to be able to report on a successful, if challenging nineteenth year for Creative Educational Projects and commend this report to you.

## **Summary of the objects of the charity:**

Creative Educational Projects was established on August 4[th] 2001 when it was constituted as a voluntary organisation to work with people with a learning, and or mental health disability to enhance their employment prospects and self-esteem.

## **History of Activities for the public benefit:**

By January 2002 the classic car project was launched. This project was initially a six month pilot project, created for people with learning disabilities who wanted to have involvement with vehicles, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. The pilot project was very successful and became a mainstream project. In 2009 we started offering computer training and recycling computers. This is now our main form of work.

## **Summary of Current Activities undertaken for public benefit in relation to the**

## **objects of the Charity:**

## **Computer Projects:**

We are still concentrating on our computer training and recycling services. Both generate an income for us. We receive used computers from Individuals and Organisations and recycle them. We do this by permanently erasing confidential data, and by loading new legal copies of Windows 10 and Microsoft Office. These are then made available for donation or discount purchase to the local voluntary sector.

We also teach people with learning and mental health disabilities how to use a computer, apply for employment, to do internet shopping, and to participate in social networking such as Facebook, and Twitter as safely as possible.

We have adapted our way of working due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. (See below)

## **Current Projects:**

## **COVID 19 Response**

Since the beginning of the outbreak we have participated in weekly ‘ Zoom Sessions’ with other service providers to share knowledge, to understand need, and to pool resources whenever this could be appropriate. Our traditional remit involves working with people with learning disabilities and/or mental health issues, and we have been particularly focused on reducing loneliness and social isolation that these people face.

Together with other organisations we identified five key areas that provided the greatest barriers to Computer, mobile phone and Internet access to our users:

- Lack of internet access

- Poor mobile phone reception

- Lack of equipment, viz Computers, tablets, and mobile phones

- Lack of knowledge on how to use equipment

- Unawareness of what support or services are available online

To address these above issues, we have been:

- Sourcing internet dongles, and working with other Charities, and Social Welfare Organisations to provide short term payment plans for them.

- Looking at providing some community buildings with Internet and Mobile Phone coverage, both internally, and externally.

- Refurbishing, and receiving Laptops and tablets for use in the community

- Either training users directly, or working with carers so that they can assist with device usage

- Circulating information about support or services that are available online.

## **Volunteers:**

We have 10 active volunteers for our work.

## **Accounts:**

Our accounts are included with this report.

## **Policy on Reserves:**

**Registered Charity 1092615**

We have examined the needs and the commitments of the Charity, in both the short and the medium term, and have formulated a reserves policy to meet those needs. The reserves policy states that our unrestricted reserves should ideally be set to cover six months anticipated unrestricted expenditure plus known project commitments for one year ahead, and that this should be reviewed periodically.

## **Income Generation:**

We have been able to generate our income this financial year, by a mixture of charging for some of our services, by charitable trading, by Fundraising, by receiving grants from Charitable Trusts, and by the sharing of resources with other organisations.

## **Our objectives for 2020/2021:**

To help establish Local Internet Hubs where people can access the Internet. To source and provide suitable computer equipment for vulnerable groups. To explore and implement ways to increase our capacity as an organisation. To provide training on how to use computer equipment. To run activities aimed at reducing social isolation, and by promoting digital inclusion.

I warmly recommend this annual report, and look forward to having another successful year.
