Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) A Patient-led Voluntary Organisation 2 24 . 4 AND ON ANNUAL REPORT AND ACCOUNTS 31st DECEMBER 2024

Registered Charity No. 1092547

Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) Annual Report for 2024 Introduction The Trustees of the Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) submit their annual report and audited financial statement for the year ending 31 December 2024. The Association was set up on the initiative of two prostate cancer patients, a consultant urologist, and a urology nurse specialist in March 2000. A formal steering committee was established on 4th September 2000. One of the aims was to establish a Charitable association, and this was achieved in June 2002. Objectives The Charity's objectives are to: Help and support persons with prostate cancer, and those who care for them, the partners. families, and friends of persons with prostate cancer, and persons bereaved through prostate cancer. Provide awareness and infonnation about prostate cancer to men with or at risk of prostate cancer, the partners, families, and friends of those men, and to members of the public at large. Organisation The Association is governed by an annually elected Executive Committee, whose members form the Board of Trustees, and whose job is to ensure the smooth and proper running of the organisation. Overall strategy and policy are agreed by the Executive Committee (Trustees)- At the Annual General Meeting all the committee members retire and are eligible for re-election. We particularly welcome candidates as new trustees. The trustees meet as an Executive Committee at least six times a year, but often more frequently. In addition, they meet as specific working groups as and when necessary. The Board of Trustees currently comprises (as of December 2024): Brian Cooley, Chaiman Peter Chapman, Treasurer Jenny Chapman Dave Kemble Mary Kemble Gary Lamb Peter Smith, Secretary Page1 of8

Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) Annual Report for 2024 Review of Activities in 2024 Open Meetings: We continue to hold regular monthly meetings at the Broadstreet Rugby FC just off the A46 Coventry Eastern Bypass. Additionally, we had an enjoyable Quiz evening in November at the Engine Inn, Kenilworth. Then. in December we had our usual Christmas lunch - this time at the Toby Carvery, Binley Park, Coventry. During the course of the 2024 we had four visiting speakers including Sue Grey, Tackle CEO, to talk about the promotion and development of peer support within the group. a team from imedicare describing their products to help cope with the side effects of treatment (mainly Incontinen￿ and ED). Fallon Norfolk, a local physiotherapist at UHCW, who gave us a practical, encouraging. and memorable talk on the relevance of physiotherapy. We also had a lively talk on Acupuncture which provoked much interest and many questions - a couple of our members subsequently followed it up with treatment. We also had a talk and discussion about the TRANSFORM project aimed at exploring several different prostate cancer screening methods and procedures. Additionally, we have welcomed the contributions and support from the UHCW Urology CNSS attending our meetings. We held our AGM in April. Other meetings were informal where we caught up with each other and exchanged news and experience. We were delighted to welcome a number of new members and their wiveslpartners during 2024. This is due largely to our close cooperation with the Urology and Oncology CNSS at UHCW and at George Eliot Hospitals - who help signpost newly diagnosed and treated men to join our meetings. We acknowledge their willing and ongoing support - for which we are most grateful. We have maintained contact with the Coventry Caribbean Centre based in Spon End, Coventry. The Centre is flourishing, but unfortunately we've not found further opportunities to enhance awareness among their membership. However, Chris West, a keen local supporter of our work, has contacts at the Caribbean Centre and is offering to help us hold an awareness event at the Centre in 2025. Walking football is a highly suc￿Ssful interest group - meeting weekly at the Alan Higgs Centre. It is organised by Sky Blues in the Community. We hope to foster other interest groups, eg walking, as our group grows in numbers. We have done our best to maintain a pastoral care towards our members, particularly by trying to keep in contact with those suffering from ill health. We send out regular newsletters via email informing members of coming events and of advances in treatment, etc.. Page2of8

Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) Annual Report for 2024 Awareness Events: We held four Awareness Events during 2024. Our first event of the year was in March when we had a long-overdue return to the Mary Forryan Center at Hinckley. David and Hilary Miller worked hard to promote this highly successful event through the popular local magazine, The Rock, and several coffee mornings. In June we returned to the Coventry Sphinx Club to coincide with a walking football tournament. Then, in Septemberloctober we again teamed up with the Rugby Rokeby Lions and the Lutterworth Lions respectively to hold two very well-attended events. Again, our sincere thanks for the hard work of both Clubs in promoting and financing these excellent events. So, in all, we tested nearly 700 during 2024. We continue to use the booking system for all Awareness events. One of its many benefits is that pre-registering allows us to allocate time slots thereby significantly reducing wait and queue times. Results are usually available the following Monday ie within 48 hours. Also, there's the added benefit that once men are registered with this system they will be sent appropriately timed reminders to get re-tested. As usual we are indebted to our dedicated team of phlebotomists led by Sheila Purnell. It is worth pointing out that there are monthly PSA Testing events at the Nelson Club, Charles Street, Warwick - run by the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust - see the GFCT web site (mypsatests.org.uk) for bookings and where, if necessary, home testing kits are available to order. We are slowly succeeding in our attempts to make the work of our group more widely known and appreciated, especially across the diverse community of Coventry. We do this through pop-up stalls and talks to local groups, and by holding our awareness events in a variety of new locations, Additionally, we continue to receive generous local support. Notable donations include those from the Major Boyd Carpenter Charity, Allesley Festival, the Arley Lodge of the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB), the Heart of England Community Foundation, and Chris West Consultancy. Gary Lamb, one of our Trustees, arranged a Golf Day at Kenilworth Golf Club in September. This was a most enjoyable and successful day, and the Club raised a staggering £1404. We are most grateful for this generosity" it enables us to offer PSA testing at an affordable price to so many men. Every year we hear of more men who have been diagnosed and successfully treated. Their gratitude and support inspire us in our work to encourage men to proactively demand PSA tests from the age of 50 onwards. Page3of8

Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) Annual Report for 2024 Keeping in touch Our thanks are due to all those members who regularly support our events and meetings (real or virtual). As already mentioned, we use newsletters via email to keep members, patrons, and supporters in touch with what is going on at the local and national level. Likewise, our web site {v￿.cnW .or .uk) is kept up to date with news, details of events, and information. Tackle Prostate Cancer, aka the National Federation of Prostate Cancer Support Groups We are affiliated to the National Federation of Prostate Cancer Support Groups. The Federation's Tackle Prostate Cancer brand is well established. It campaigns at the national level to lobby Government, the NHS, and Prostate Cancer charities to see things our way and, particularly, to push for access to the latest treatments and measures to ensure the early diagnosis of prostate cancer. One example of progress at the national level is the growing aC￿ptan￿ by PC UK of the need for risk-based PSA testing. The Federation has an expanding website which is kept up to date with news and the latest information on prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment. It also publishes a quarterly magazine, Prostate Matters, which is available online. Meanwhile, there is a wealth of archived news items at htt s:Iltackle rostate.or Inewsl For further details of Federation activity and meetings see their newly enhanced web site at htt :Ilwww.tackle rostate.or The Federation has temporarily suspended its national Help Line - pending a re-organisation of the servi￿. There is, however, an interim Helpline available on 0800 774 7560. By dialling this number, you will always be able to contact men who, between them, have experienced a variety of prostate cancer treatments. Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) Annual Report for 2024 Financial Report Responsibilities of the Trustees Charity law requires that for each financial year the Trustees prepare financial statements that give a true and fair view of the financial health of the Charity and of the surplus or deficit of the Charity for that period. The trustees have overall responsibility for ensuring that the Charity has appropriate systems of financial control. They are also responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act. The Association submits a copy of the accounts to the Charity Commission each year. The Prostate Cancer Support Association (Central England) is keen to make available its finances to the scrutiny of anyone wishing to examine them. They are included in this report for that purpose. Report The Trustees of the Association continue to recognise the need to maintain a strategy of administration and fundraising that enables the objectives of the Charity to be achieved. Administration costs have been kept to a minimum. Total funds at 31 st December 2024 were £16837 compared to last year's figure of £9296, an increase of £7541 which reflects donations and provision for Awareness events scheduled for early 2025. Income for 2024 was £25722 as opposed to £18045 in 2023. This is due to our having to raise the mandatory registration fees for PSA Testing. This increase in income is offset by the inflated costs of testing and the administration of the booking and results system. Expenditure for 2024 was £18236 compared to £16899 in 2023. This was due to the increased level of expenditure associated with our Awareness Events. All in all, our finances are sound as we go forward to 2025. We are extremely grateful for the donations and contributions we have received during the year - which have been acknowledged personally, in our Newsletters, and on our web site (www.cnwpcsg.org.uk). Our thanks once again to Mr Ronald Raines of the Hinckley Baptist Church who examined the records and accounts. Page5of8

Chairman's Report for 2024

My report focusses on our plans and hopes for the coming year. However, the start of 2025 brought with it the sad death of Brian Cooley on 20th January. Brian had been our Chair for nearly 12 years: he was a much respected and influential ambassador for our group, and will be greatly missed. He had such a lovely and unassuming way with people - with his ready humour and personal touch. Many of us will also miss Brian as a personal friend - always a constant, helpful, willing and cheerful.

As you have seen in the Secretary's report, we had a good year and made steady progress in expanding the group and its presence in our local communities. There is still much more to do on this front. However, we have established excellent relationships with the CNSs at UHCW and George Eliot Hospitals: they all have a copious supply of our signposting leaflets aimed at encouraging newly diagnosed and treated patients to join our group. We hope this relationship will continue to bring in even more new members in 2025. We are always conscious of the need to welcome new members and their wives/partners, and to make ample time and space to acknowledge the physical and emotional impact that prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment has on men and their relationships.

We have already held two prostate health awareness events in Coventry this year (2025) and have plans for a further four in Warwickshire. Going forward, we will be prioritising the growth of the group. Also, seeking opportunities to diversify as numbers increase. We plan to raise our profile among local community groups by having stalls at health events and giving presentations about our work.

We continue to seek new Trustees to help run and develop the Group. We are casting the net wide when we consider potential Trustees; we would welcome anyone with an understanding of prostate cancer not just those who are experiencing it. So, this includes wives/partners/carers, family members, and perhaps those with a nursing background. Please think about whether you can help run this vital group; any of our current Trustees would welcome your interest.

I would like to add my thanks all those who have made generous donations and contributions - see detail in Secretary's Report. Their generosity helps fund our aim of making men and their families aware of the risks of Prostate Cancer. Our thanks also go to our loyal team of phlebotomists, and our Patrons, especially Ken Taylor and Rob Blacklock, for their continuing support.

Finally, our thanks to all of you who support us, and we hope to see many of you at our group meeting and events this coming year.
