The Trust has been able to support a number of projects that have significantly benefited IPASC staff and students in both Aru and Bunia. Financial support for students on both the Diploma and Degree courses has continued although the courses were temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 during part of the year. The Trust would like to thank all those who have supported the Friends of IPASC Trust both financially and in kind.

The Trustees continued the agreed strategy of transferring sums raised to IPASC for their expenditure according to the priorities of the moment within IPASC. This is part of an approach focused on enabling IPASC to take more responsibility for its own management.

In order to ensure the monies were spent according to the objectives of IPASC:

- The Trust has received reports from IPASC identifying specifically how the Trust monies were used.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the 12-month period to 30 June 2021**

## **Review continued**

- During the year the Director of IPASC, Amuda Baba, has been able to part take in zoom meetings with the Trustees and report on the works and developments of IPASC both at Aru and Bunia.

This gives Trustees confidence in the appropriate and effective use of donated funds. We believe we have complied with the duty in section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to public benefit guidance published by the Commission.

We see the practical outworking of our objective to be:

- The raising of awareness of the work through newsletters

- The raising and donation of funds to IPASC

- The arrangement of visits by those able to continue the work of IPASC

## **Trustees and Vice Presidents**

The trustees would like to thank the President and all the Vice Presidents for their continued support of the work of IPASC.

## **Events**

The Trust continues to ensure that supporters are kept up to date by raising awareness through:

- Distribution of a newsletter and prayer letter

- Student Sponsorship scheme

The Student Sponsorship scheme continues to be successful and in 2021 £4,031 (2020: £3,667) helped support over 40 students. Difficulties were experienced during 2021 with courses being suspended temporarily for part of the year due to COVID-19 and its impact on the students courses. However the support will enable students to complete both Diploma and Degree courses that they would not have been able to fund by their own means

The Trust would like to thank all those who have given of their time and effort for which we are eternally grateful. The Trust seeks continually to raise wider awareness of the healthcare work of IPASC Aru

## **FINANCES**

The Trust recorded income of £62,893 (2020: £20,542) and expenditure of £23,239 (2020: £21,502) in the year. There are accumulated reserves at 30 June 2021 of £58,524 (2020: £18,870), held within its bank accounts.

Donations received during the financial year included a legacy of £22,590, support for the ladies dormitory of £15,220 and tax reclaimed of £6,321 in the year from gift aided donations made during 2020 and 2021.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES for the 12 month period to 30 June 2021**

## **FINANCES**

Monies were used during the year to support the following main areas:

- £12,257 was used to help support the IPASC team during the COVID lockdown.

- In 2020, £12,133 was transferred to IPASC to help fund the construction of the ladies dormitory in Aru; the project was supported by a donation from St. Mary's Church, Upton, Wirral that was received in 2021.

- £4,031 to sponsor students on degree and diploma courses (2020: £3,667)

At the end of the financial year the Trust held £58,524 (2020: £18,870) in cash balances. This was represented by monies held for:

|General Funds
Designated Funds|**2021**
£49,800
£ 8,724
£58,524|**2020**
£12,665
£ 6,205
£18,870|
|---|---|---|

The aim of the Trust is not to hold large sums of money but to aid the work in Aru and Bunia in an efficient manner and to this extent the Trust has been more successful. Therefore, as such, balances held at any one time in general result from the timing of receipts and payments.

The Trust would like to thank all those who have donated so generously of their money to support the Friends of IPASC Trust for which we are eternally grateful. These donations are making a real difference to peoples lives in DR Congo.

## **IPASC (DRC) Report and Activities**

During the last year the IPASC team and students have faced double challenges, COVID19 restrictions where school activities were suspended for part of the year, and also the hardship that IPASC has gone through, pushing staff and students to operate outside of the buildings. The following summarises some of the activities:

- IPASC ended the 2020-21 year with 85 students. Despite the difficult circumstances only 5 out of the 85 students did not succeed.

- The Friends of IPASC have supported 26 diploma students in Aru

- The Friends of IPASC have supported 13 degree students in Bunia

- The internet in the community health faculty in Bunia continues to help students conducting their research and accessing more documentation online, supplementing that in the library.

- Radio broadcasts continue to educate and raise awareness of healthy living
