## _**SQUIRREL DREY**_

This year has been filled with tons of fun experiences with a lot of ‘firstsÕ.

The Squirrels attended their first ever group scout camp at Beaudesert! What a wild ride that was. It rained the entire time, but it did not dampen a single Squirrel spirit! I could not have been prouder of them; they threw themselves into every activity and were so brave. For most this was their first time away from home by themselves. They had an opportunity to have a go at Bivouacking, Fire lighting, Mini crossbows, Soft Archery, Soft fencing, and a nice run round on the mini assault course. It was a huge success, and they all went home happy and absolutely shattered!

In February our Squirrel section featured in the district award ceremony; where we had our very first Squirrel awarded with their Chief Scout Acorn Award. We were so proud, and he was very brave! Our Squirrel Drey had its First birthday on the 1[st of] March 2024. To celebrate we had a lovely little party, attended by our GSL kaa and our District Squirrel Leader, who awarded even more Chief Scout Acorn awards. For some this marked their 1[st] full year of scouting, earning them their first joining in award! The time has flown so quickly! Another first for our group, we had some Squirrels go up to Beavers. Very bittersweet moment but we wish them well with the next stage in their scouting journey!

The Squirrels have been very busy with their badge work too. We have completed out Be Active, Brilliant

Builder, Super Chef, Let it grow and Exciting Experiments activity badges; as well as out All around us and All about me, All together and All about adventure challenge badges. 9 Squirrels in total have been able to achieve their Chief Scout Acorn award. Also as an added bit of fun we did the ‘Young JediÕ award by celebrating Star Wars day. Huge congratulations to all the hard work.

The squirrels have been very engaged in District events this year. Thanks to our Queen Squirrel (Tara - Blount District Squirrel Leader) and the support of our fellow Squirrel leaders we have successfully pulled off multiple events that have been extremely well received by all Squirrels attending. We threw a Teddy bearÕs Picnic in the castle grounds, attended Kingsbury Waterpark for their Christmas train and held a Christmas party and an Easter event at the DAC featuring a visit from Santa the Easter Bunny. We have many more District events in the pipeline so stay tuned. 3[rd] Wilnecote Squirrels is going from strength to strength, and we are dedicated to providing an exciting and rewarding program whilst still achieving our badge requirements. It has been incredible to see the kidÕs confidence and ability grow, and we have had lots of positive feedback from both the children and bul a J Ny the parents.

with many amazing adventures. Beavers have

Beavers have completed many badges. From cooking, gardening, safety, faith, builder and disability awareness (to name a few). Throughout the year Beavers have enjoyed a visit to our local church, making pizza and pancakes, played Bingo, made mothers day cards and special mugs for fathers day, took part in the District Paddle Sports event and attended Group camp at Beaudesert. Also over this last year Beavers have took part in the local act of remembrance, had a Halloween Party, enjoyed doing Christmas

works in planning the badgework and to Ash (Sue Stonehouse) for coming back to our

Our year began with our first Group sleepover in our hall. It was an amazing weekend doing the Air Activities Staged badges. We finished with a trip to Cosford Air Museum.

As usual we have had a packed programme which covered Gardening; The Cubs helped to clear away some of the weeds at the back of the HQ and we had our own planter to look after. Green fingers all round!

Cubs made sandwiches with their feet as part of the disability awareness badge. For Animal Carer; we had an awesome meeting with a visit from Critterish Allsorts. They brought in a variety of cuddly and not so cuddly critters. We did Team building with ‘blind’ Lego; Backwoods cooking with some very strange pizza creations and Emergency Aid. Having the use of CPR dolls was an added bonus.

The Cubs were the first to try out the new archery equipment purchased for the Group. Some even hit the targets!

**Joan Gilliver (Willow) Beaver Scout Leader**

We’ve had a few parties throughout the year. These included a Royal celebration for the King’s coronation, a ghoulish party for

Halloween and a Merry Christmas one too. The Cubs have attended several district events such as the St George’s day parade in Tamworth and the paddle sports event. Even though the weather wasn’t great we had a good turnout and we were the smartest there.

Although we didn’t win the District Quiz, I was very proud of our team and what they achieved. Well done to everyone who came to the Remembrance parade as the weather was definitely against us.

Also nice to see Cubs joining in and showing support at the Wilnecote Fun Day, the Beetle Drive and the Christmas Fayre. Once again, all this would not be possible without the amazing team I have behind me. I would like to thank Pete (Baggy), Rebecca (Hathi), Evi (Ferao), and Jared (Pingu) for all their efforts. A big thanks to Katy (Stitch) for stepping in when I’m on shifts and generally lending a hand most weeks. Thank you all for your continuing, amazing work and commitment. >

St George’s Day Parade; Paddle sports; District Scout Quiz

In May we went on our Week Camp where the Scouts

enjoyed various activities like operating powerboats. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to take part in the planned

instead we took the opportunity to visit Portsmouth Docks and had a tour around HMS Victory and the Mary Rose. This was an excellent camp and I was very proud of all our Scouts as they faced all the Challenges Head on.

Looking forward to an even more fun filled adventurous program for the year ahead.
