Our young people have experienced some wonderful opportunities, all made possible by our hardworking team of Warranted Leaders, Section Assistants, Young Leaders and our group supporters. They have Volunteered vast amounts of their time and energy into our Group and I thank them all for their ongoing dedication to our Young Members and their scouting journeys.**_ _**This year has seen the introduction of Squirrel Scouts into the group and what an entrance they have made! Squirrel Scouts have bought a new dimension and renewed excitement to the group and the enthusiasm has been infectious. Well done to everyone who has made this possible. We look forward to sharing in their Scouting Adventures.**_ _**Congratulations to everyone who are to receive awards tonight. ANY BUSINESS ARISING FROM SUCH DISCUSSIONS WILL BE DEALT WITH AT THE VERY NEXT MEETING OF THE GROUP EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. _(TRUSTEES)_ ## 3RD WILNECOTE ## _**SQUIRREL DREY**_ 3[rd] Wilnecote Scout Group received approval for a Squirrel section in late 2022; our first meeting was on 1[st] March 2023. It was decided that we would meet an hour before Beavers, this would allow a Beaver leader to assist with the meeting as well as making the transition process to Beavers easier for the Squirrels. A huge recruitment drive took place where we took over Facebook, and contacted local schools and businesses. This resulted in Asda Tamworth sponsoring our group and offering equipment and resources for our meetings. We started with 8 Squirrels, which has since increased to 14 and we have a waiting list of 5. Since March we have completed 3 activity badges (Let it grow, Get creative and Super Chef), 3 staged badges (Air Activities, Hikes and Nights Away), and 2 challenge badges (All Together and All about Adventure). We have undertaken a multitude of activities and games, including celebrating the KingÕs Coronation, Mother and FatherÕs Day, and hot dogs in a Tee Pee! Our Drey have just come back from their first camp where they took part in hikes and activities such as fire lighting, bivouacking, mini crossbows, archery, and soft fencing. They enjoyed these activities immensely and really loved the whole experience of camping. A lot was learned from this camp which will help us plan and adapt for our next adventure. 3[rd] Wilnecote Squirrels is going from strength to strength with regular enquiries still coming in for new members. We have received a lot of positive feedback from both the children and parents regarding our activities and the progress they have seen in their childÕs confidence and abilities. We continue to learn as our sessions go on and have succeeded in successfully running an exciting and rewarding program whilst achieving our badge requirements. Over the coming months we plan to get more involved in district run activities to broaden our network and get the Children involved with other Squirrel Dreys. **Jessica Jeffrey (Pumpkin) Squirrel Scout Leader** ## 3RD WILNECOTE ## _**BEAVER COLONY**_ We have had another fantas�cally busy year with many amazing adventures. Beavers have enjoyed another full on program of ac�vi�es. Beavers have completed many badges including Emergency Aid Level 1, Disability Awareness, Health and Fitness, Navigator, Digital Maker and the Outdoor Challenge badge. I'd like to thank Rowan (Sue Elston) for con�nuing to take on a leading role in the planning and running of the beaver badgework program. Ash (Sue Stonehouse) and our Young Leader, Hazel (Chloe Greaves) for helping to deliver it. Over this last year Beavers have been Trampolining at Jump Xtreme, Joined in with Group Camp and our local act of remembrance, enjoyed doing Christmas Cra�s, went Bowling at Namco and tried their hand at water ac�vi�es at the District led Paddle Sports Day on the River in the Castle Grounds. Beavers also joined the rest of the group for a Sleepover in the HQ. This enabled them to do some Air Ac�vi�es before heading over for a visit to Cosford Air Museum. Thanks to everyone who helped with Beavers throughout the year and given us support. Congratula�ons to Ash (Sue Stonehouse} who is to receive the Chief Scouts Commenda�on for services to scou�ng! **Joan Gilliver (Willow) Beaver Scout Leader** ## 3RD WILNECOTE ## _**CUB PACK**_ Yet another year of amazing adventures. This year the Cubs have had a packed program. We have been getting experimental with the scientist badge; broadening our horizons with the International badge, culminating in a international food cookout; becoming handy with the DIY badge; getting our hands dirty with the GardenerÕs badge; and taking to the skies with the Air Activities badge. Along with all this we have had time to learn magic tricks; visit a fire station; get creative for various yearly events such as MotherÕs day; and have regular cookouts on the fire. We have also been working our way through our core program, helping the Cubs achieve their chief scouts silver award. This is the highest award a cub can receive and is well earned. Congratulations to Robyn Elston and soon to be awarded, Harvey Lancaster. We have attended several district events such as the St GeorgeÕs day parade in Tamworth, and the paddle sports event. In April, the Cubs joined other sections of the group in the very first sleepover at group HQ followed by a trip to RAF Cosford air museum. The group camp this year was a fun but wet affair. We built fires, shelters and roasted the occasional marshmallow or 6. The Cubs also enjoyed the crate stacking, monkey trees, quarry zip, and grass sledging activities. All this would not be possible without the amazing team I have behind me. I would like to thank Pete (Baggy), Rebecca (Hathi), Evi (Ferao) and Alison for all their efforts. Also, thanks to Kate (Condor) for stepping in when IÕm on shifts and generally lending a hand. We have also been lucky to welcome a new young leader to our team, Jared. Thank you all for your continuing amazing work and commitment. **Philip Elston (Roo) Cub Scout Leader** ## 3RD WILNECOTE ## _**SCOUT TROOP**_ - - 2022 23 has been a fun rollercoaster ride with our ever growing Scout Troop. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, Adam Aus�n had to step down as Scout Leader and I have been appointed in his place. Many thanks Adam for your contribu�ons to our very successful troop. - In November 2022 we did a sponsored stay awake raising over £600 for the group. All the Scouts managed to stay awake although did have a few who were flagging! In May this year we had a weekend camp which saw the Scouts enjoying wakeboarding, paddle boarding and �me on the Aqua assault course. It was a successful weekend and everyone enjoyed this adventure. In this period Jared Elston and Harrison Lancaster have achieved their Chief Scouts Gold Award; this is the highest award any Scout can receive in the Group and we are extremely proud of them. In weekly mee�ngs we have covered a large variety of ac�vi�es from soldering, gardening, trying flight simulators to cooking a main and desert on a fire. This worked really well. Everyone got to taste the finished crea�ons and were also awarded with their Fire Safety badge. We have started the Crea�ve Challenge Badge and the Digital Maker Badge which we will complete in the new term. I am pleased to see the Scouts gaining more and more in confidence, bouncing ideas off one another and happy to have a go outside of their comfort zones. Group Camp 2023 was rather wet this year but that didn’t stop us and I hope the Scouts enjoyed the ac�vi�es which included Quarry Zip, Tomahawks, Monkey Trees and Cave simulator. We have joined in many Group and District ac�vi�es including the Remembrance parade; bowling; St Georges Day parade; Paddle sports; Cosford sleepover & trip; and shoo�ng, where we came 3rd. I have already begun to plan next year’s Scout camp which will see us opera�ng powerboats, taking part in a land & sea expedi�on along with other exci�ng ac�vi�es, Including sleeping in hammocks. This will be a first a first for many of the Scouts, including me, which I hope they will enjoy. BEFORE SHE BECAME A LEADER SUE AND HUSBAND COLIN WERE VERY ACTIVE MEMBERS OF THE PARENTS COMMITTEE, HELPING AT ALL OF THE FUNDRAISING EVENTS AND FULLY SUPPORTING THE GROUP IN ALL ITS ACTIVITIES. SHE BECAME AN ASSISTANT BEAVER SCOUT LEADER IN OCT 2001. SUE HAS WORKED HARD HELPING THE BEAVERS SUCCEED IN THEIR BADGEWORK, ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS. SHE HAS THE ABILITY TO INSTRUCT THE BEAVERS IN A VERY FRIENDLY AND KIND BUT FIRM WAY THUS GETTING THE BEST OUT OF THEM. ONE OF SUES KEY ROLES IS TO PREPARE NEW BEAVERS FOR THEIR SCOUTING ADVENTURES AND INVESTITURES, A TASK SHE THOROUGHLY LOVES. IN 2022 SUE WAS AWARDED HER 20 YEARS SERVICE AWARD. OUTSIDE THE COLONY, SUE ACTIVELY SUPPORTS THE GROUP AT MANY LOCAL COMMUNITY EVENTS AND ALL FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES. FROM BAG PACKING, RAFFLES, COMMUNITY FUNDAYS TO FUNDRAISING EVENINGS, SUE IS ALWAYS THE FIRST IN THE QUEUE TO OFFER MUCH NEEDED SUPPORT! SUE IS A HIGHLY VALUED MEMBER OF OUR BEAVER SCOUT LEADERSHIP TEAM. WE LOOK FORWARD TO SUE CONTINUING IN HER ROLE WITH THE BEAVER COLONY FOR MANY MORE YEARS TO COME. _SUE IS A MUCH RESPECTED MEMBER OF OUR GROUP FOR WHICH WE ARE EXTREMELY GREATFUL!_ ## CONGRATULATIONS ASH AND THANKYOU. ## _FAREWELL TO_ ## _MR DAVID DAVIES_ ## _GROUP CHAIRMAN_ **Dave became involved with 3rd Wilnecote Scout Group, as a parent helper, in July 2009 when he a�ended our Groups’ Summer Camp with his son Rhys, who was a member of our Cub Pack.** **In October 2009 Dave agreed to help out on a weekly basis as a Sec�on Assistant. He helped many of the Cubs work towards their Badges.** **In January 2012, during a tough period of upheaval for the Group, Simon (Kaa) asked Dave if he would be willing to take on the Chairpersons role. Dave accepted and remained in this role �ll now.** **Dave has helped us navigate through many challenges and has an amazing ability to bring out the posi�ves in all situa�ons. He has been a suppor�ve ear, a calming influence and o�en the voice of reason at Trustees Mee�ngs.** **par�cularly enjoys sharing in the experiences of Outdoor Camps and Ac�vi�es. At Camps you usually found Dave helping serve food, taking photos and o�en having a good na�er to our excited Young Members.** **Dave has a passion for Photography and quickly established himself as our Groups “go to” Photographer. His photographic exper�se has also led to him being asked to join the District team at the Scout Splash Weekend in the Solent. Even though Dave didn’t receive the usual “preferen�al treatment” that he is accustomed to at Group Camps, he loved every minute of it!** **arranged mee�ngs and visits with various Steel frame companies and liaised with Council Officials to discuss lease terms. During the build, Dave has helped whenever possible.
