MEMORIAL FREE CHURCH at OAKAMOOR. (reg.CHARITY 1091555)

ANNUAL REPORT for 2020

The Covid – 19 pandemic had a major impact at the Church during 2020 as it did to all areas of society.

THERE WERE NO MEETINGS OF THE TRUSTEES OR DEACONS DURING 2020 DUE TO TRAVEL & INDOOR MEETING RESTRICTIONS.THE DAY TO DAY BUSINESS BEING DONE BY DOROTHY CLOWES (SECRETARY) & JOHN REDFEARN (TREASURER) BOTH OF WHOM ARE TRUSTEES & DEACONS WITH TELEPHONE CALLS TO THE TRUSTEES AS NECESSARY.

Following Government restrictions the Church was closed for some 17 – 18 weeks from mid – March.

The Church reopened in late summer BUT only after a thorough risk assessment carried out by the Secretary & Treasurer. This meant parts of the Church and some pews were roped off out of use to be in line with social distancing regulations.Face coverings were mandatory & hand sanitizer was provided. No singing was allowed & the organ was not used during services. Only one funeral service took place in the Autumn with the maximum permitted 30 mourners. There were no weddings – those arranged being postponed. Only token services were held for the Harvest & Christmas & probably for the first time since its opening on Easter Day 1878 no Easter service could take place.

Signs were put at all entrances to the graveyard advising of currently approved group sizes & social distancing.

FINANCE

Income was reduced by having no collections during services BUT those paying by Direct Debit continued to do so.

Investments were made from the Trustees account of £10,000 each in both Blackrock & M&G Equity funds which helped offset the fall in share prices to boost our dividend payments and continue to pay for the Minister. Both of our tenants at the Manse & Bluebell cottage continued to pay rent throughout.

THERE WAS NO ADVERSE FINANCIAL ISSUES FOR THE CHURCH DESPITE THE PANDEMIC.

BUILDINGS

Repairs were carried out to the Church roof to replace broken / missing tiles in the Autumn. The Schoolroom was not used after mid-March.& there were no problems at either the Manse or Bluebell Cottage.

GROUNDS

John Redfearn used the lockdown period to further improve the area for the new graveyard by putting in pathways & keeping it well mown & strimmed throughout the year.As ever Norman Edwards kept the rest of the graveyard to an excellent standard.
