Objects
The trustees shall hold the trust fund and its income upon trust to apply them for the following objects in the Anglican Diocese of Morogoro, central Tanzania, East Africa, mainly, but not exclusively, in the village of Berega, Magole Ward, Kilosa District:

(1) The relief of sickness and disease, particularly by supporting Berega Hospital through the provision of medical equipment and facilities as well as funding new buildings, maintenance and renovation of existing structures and training courses to ensure ongoing staff education and development;

(2) The relief of poverty through support of the local orphanage and through the provision of grants and funds for homeless and needy people and those unable to afford basic health care or education; and
-
(3) The advancement of the Christian religion through provision of courses and facilities for the training of church leaders and teachers in the Christian ministry.

Trustees’ Report
Our annual report covers the financial year ending in September 2025. However, to put the year into its proper context, it is necessary to also report on developments that have occurred in the last quarter of the calendar year 2025.
Normally, in writing this report, we have the benefit of information gained from a visit by Trustees. Such a visit was scheduled for November. To coincide with the 15" anniversary celebrations ofBIHES and Bishop Chitemo Junior School. Unfortunately, this visit was cancelled due to political unrest and violence throughout Tanzania.
As described in the financial report, our water project has been the main focus of Trustees’ attention this year. After lengthy studies and negotiations, we have finally agreed to fund the revamping of an existing borehole, together with required distribution system that will provide water for the whole campus run by the Morogoro Diocese (the schools, hospital and health college). Work will start in March 2026. This will use up all the money that we have built up in our bank account. A partner charity, the Anglican Relief and Development Fund Australia, have agreed to contribute US$10,000 to the project and we are very grateful for this help.
With regard to our partners in Berega:

e Bishop Chitemo primary school have successfully launched their secondary school, with the first students starting in January 2025. We continue to sponsor 30 local children at the primary school. They are children whose families would otherwise be unable to afford the fees, but who have the ability to benefit from the education.

e BiHeS (Berega Institute of Health Sciences) continues to work well. They currently have 189 students on three courses: Nursing and midwifery, Clinical medicine and Pharmaceutical sciences.

e Because of the cancellation of the Trustees visit, we do not have first hand information about the hospital. However on 2nd January 2026 Bishop Godfrey of Morogoro emailed the Trustees about the hospital, and the difficulties it has gone through in recent years, and The Bishop wrote "We are currently very encouraged, and I am happy to inform you that our hospital is making good progress."
The membership and roles within the Trustees have not changed this year. We have continued to hold meetings on Zoom, and by shared emails.

The Accounting Report
The accounts are summarised later in this report. They have been prepared on the Receipts and Payments basis!. As will be seen we have spent £27,667 directly in Berega. The breakdown of this expenditure is shown below. It excludes bank charges paid in the UK.
The main focus this year has again been on the water project. The supply of water in Berega has been impacted by climate change and is causing serious problems to the hospital, the village and to agriculture.
SAWA our water engineering company based in Dar es Salaam has carried out water quality testing and surveying of the area to identify the best place for a borehole with minimal salinity and drawn up project plans to develop a new borehole and pump the water to the hospital, BIHeS and the schools.
The, for us, significant sum of money in our bank account at the year-end is for this project. In fact, all these funds are either restricted (e.g. for school sponsorship and the epilepsy project), or are designated for the expenditure expected on the bore hole.

We raised £6,661 more than we spent, and our funds in the bank increased from £27,815 to £34,476. The use of this money was agreed and prioritised at a number of Trustees meetings. We have also had a number ofZoom meetings with our partners in Berega and SAWA, the Dar es Salaam based water engineering company, to better understand immediate issues and progress the water project.
We collect Gift Aid, where appropriate, in the year following that in which donations were made. We keep separate funds that have been given for particular purposes. These specific funds are: pupil sponsorship at the primary school, the epilepsy project, Morogoro Church Community Transformation and dental equipment.
We were again subject to a Barclays compliance audit which we were able to satisfactorily complete by providing the requested evidence and explanations. Barclays is extremely slow at reviewing evidence, the annual audit taking 5 months. For a small charity such as BREAD this is time consuming and Barclays places restrictions on the account until the audit is complete.

'Ttis important to note that our sponsorship of children at Bishop Chitemo School is intended to last throughout their time at primary school. This means that we have commitments beyond the financial year: at least moral commitments.

Independent Examiner’s Report to the Trustees of Berega Relief Equipment and Development Trust ,
I report on the accounts of the Trust for the year ended 30th September 2025, which are set out on the following page.
Respective Responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the 2011 Act) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to: examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act; to follow the procedures laid down in the general Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act; and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
Basis of independent examiner’s report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the general Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review ofthe accounting records kept by the charity anda comparison ofthe accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees conceming any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent examiner’s statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in any material respect the requirements: * to keep accounting records in accordance with section 130 ofthe 2011 Act; and * to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the 2011 Act have not been met; or
-
(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding ofthe accounts to be reached.
