Chairman’s Report Year: Sept 2024 - August 2025

Introduction

It is my great pleasure to present the Chairman’s Report for the Aylesbury Grammar School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). Over the past few years, the PTA has shown resilience in challenging times and strength during periods of renewed growth. This report highlights our recent achievements, recognises the dedication of our volunteers, and outlines our priorities for the year ahead.

Fundraising and Financial Support

Despite fluctuations in fundraising opportunities in past years due to a shortage of committee volunteers, the PTA has consistently allocated funds to projects that genuinely enhance the boys’ experience at AGS.

Recently, we have supported initiatives such as school counselling services, the robotics club, and the urban garden. Major commitments included refurbishing the drama room and contributing £20,000 towards replacing one of our minibuses.

This past year, we built on that foundation through events including:

The funds raised this year will go towards the refurbishment of EB4 and the purchase of additional table tennis tables, further enhancing the facilities available to our boys.

Community and Volunteer Engagement

The PTA’s success depends not only on the funds we raise but also on the community spirit we foster. Events like the Year 7 Disco and Activity Day have helped establish treasured traditions and strengthen bonds within the AGS community. Including new

Year 7 parents in our core committee has been especially encouraging, as it aims to secure ongoing support and bring in fresh ideas and energy.

However, I also recognise the ongoing challenge of recruiting volunteers. While our core committee remains small, its commitment is unwavering. Expanding this group remains a priority to secure the future of our work.

This year, we also bid farewell to several long-serving committee members whose exceptional dedication has been a tremendous asset. Special thanks are due to both Zoe and Charles, whose persistent efforts over many years have greatly contributed to the PTA’s success.

Looking Ahead

The PTA’s mission remains clear: to enhance the school experience through both financial support and community involvement. Over the coming year, our focus will be on strengthening our committee structure by finalising key internal roles, expanding the events calendar with a sustainable and balanced programme of fundraising and social activities, and engaging new parents early to encourage long-term commitment to the PTA’s work. We will also continue to allocate funds to projects that directly improve the learning environment and the well-being of our boys.

Closing Remarks

The PTA has demonstrated that, whether raising over £40,000 in prosperous years or supporting essential projects during challenging times, it consistently exceeds expectations. This success is only achievable through the collective efforts of our volunteers, parents, staff, and the wider school community.

On behalf of the PTA Committee, I would like to sincerely thank you for your ongoing dedication, time, and generosity. Together, we will continue to ensure that the boys of AGS benefit from those valuable extras that enrich their education and school life.

Mr Damian Willingale
