Hello everyone and thank you so much for coming. For anyone who doesn’t know my name’s Clare and I’m the chair of the Cuckoo’s Nest. It’s difficult to believe that we’re here again already the past 12mths just seem to have flown by. As usual we have managed to cram quiet a lot in. Both of our shops continue to do well, and we are extremely grateful for all of your support especially in this current climate. We are also extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated team of volunteers, although more are always welcome. Especially if we want to try getting back to our pre-lockdown opening hours. All our external building work is finally completed, and we have managed to get through a winter without any rain leaking into the flat or shop. Thank you to everyone for your patience whilst we had the scaffolding around the shop, especially to those who we’re putting the Christmas lights up. Once all the building work was completed after a few finishing touches we were then in a position to offer the flat for rent. Although it has taken us longer to complete than originally planned, we are all extremely pleased with the end result, and we are fortunate to now have 2 lovely tenants. We celebrated our 21[st] birthday with an afternoon tea at katies kitchen for all of our Volunteers. It was a good way to bring all the volunteers together and show appreciation for their hard work. The lovely ladies from the Marsden WI helped us organise a wonderful fashion show which was a great success and I’ve already had request for our next show. Although I think realistically, we will be looking at next year. We also held Marsden’s very first Santa Dash. The money raised from these 2 events helped us pay for our new shop sign so thank you to everyone who supported these events. Also, a special thank you to Gary who helped organise the road closure for the Santa dash. We have a brand-new logo Courtesy of Lucy Hanson winning our logo competition last year and we are also in the process of launching a brand-new website. Please do bear with us it is a work in progress, and we will continue to keep updating information on it as often as we can. It was a great honour to be a awarded the Colne valley stars award along side so many other amazing groups and organisations. Looking forward to the year ahead it’s important to us now the flat is completed that we get back to doing what we do best and that’s supporting you our community through our grants scheme. Although we never stopped doing this, I’m sure that there were times when we all felt that we were spread a little thin. Before I hand you over to our treasurer, I just like to take a minute to remember a Cuckoo’s Nest Volunteer Ken ******* who sadly passed away just a few months ago. Although I can’t pretend to have know Ken well, I know he was a big part of Cuckoo’s Nest and will be missed by all. The major expense has been all the work that has needed doing to 40 Peel Street. As Cuckoo’s Nest Marsden Limited had few funds, this has been subsidised by the charity. Happily now, the flat is lovely, and we have tenants there since March 2023. Their rent is now paying most of the mortgage on the property, which means that more funds can be released for the community of Marsden.
