## **The methods adopted for the recruitment and appointment of new trustees** 

Our focus in any year is the recruitment of trustees and executives who bring experience and/or skills to support the charity. 

We are members of Children & Young People Cancer Coalition (CYPCC) to. We find this group extremely beneficial for peer support, networking, and ideas. 

After the growth in 2021/2022 this year has been all about stabilising the charity. 

Rachel is on the editorial board of contact magazine, which is a quarterly publication sent to all the principal treatment centres for paediatric oncology. 

## **Aims and objectives** 

Supporting the needs of families affected by childhood cancer, including wider family members and particularly those without access to an appropriate group or support. 

Promoting networking and interaction between parents, families, and relevant organisations. 

Maintaining regular communication and provision of information to families. 

Increasing public awareness of childhood and young people’s cancers. 

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit** 

The past year has been transformative for the Childhood Cancer Parents Alliance (CCPA). As a charity dedicated to supporting families affected by childhood cancer, we have strengthened our operations, deepened our impact, and expanded our reach. Despite the challenges of balancing growth with sustainability, our team has worked tirelessly to ensure that every initiative contributes meaningfully to the well-being of the families we serve. 

Our core mission is to provide emotional, practical, and material support to families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer. While Staffordshire remains our home base, we have increasingly found ourselves supporting families in regions where no local groups exist, such as Devon, Norwich, and Warwickshire. Technology has played a crucial role in bridging these geographical gaps. Through virtual well-being sessions, online support groups, and remote activities, we have ensured that every family, regardless of location, feels connected and supported. 

This year, we took a significant step forward by increasing our storage facilities. This expansion was driven by the growing volume of donations and the need to efficiently manage resources. The additional storage has enabled us to streamline the sorting, cataloguing, and distribution of donated items, ensuring that families receive timely and appropriate support. 

As our charity has grown, so too has the demand for dedicated personnel. To manage the expansion of our e-commerce platforms and the influx of donations, we have increased our staffing levels. These new part-time roles have bolstered our ability to manage operations, ensuring that every donation and sale contributes effectively to our mission. 

Social media remains a vital tool for communication and engagement. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have allowed us to share updates, promote fundraising campaigns, and celebrate our achievements with a broad audience. These platforms also serve as a lifeline for families and volunteers, offering a space to connect, share experiences, and access resources. The consistent growth of our online presence underscores its importance in raising awareness and fostering community.

## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit (continued)** 

Our partnership with Screwfix has continued to flourish. This year, their support went beyond financial contributions. Their dedicated team of volunteers transformed our family room with a vibrant superhero theme, creating a welcoming space for children and their families. This initiative exemplifies the power of collaboration, showcasing how businesses can make a direct, positive impact on their communities. 

We have also nurtured relationships with other local businesses, many of which have chosen us as their charity of the year. These partnerships provide essential funding, volunteer support, and opportunities to raise awareness about childhood cancer. The commitment of these businesses highlights the growing importance of corporate social responsibility in driving meaningful change. 

Our Easter and Christmas gift parcel campaigns remain highlights of the year. These carefully curated parcels, filled with treats and thoughtful gifts, bring joy and comfort to families during special times. 

The newly decorated superhero-themed family room has become a cornerstone of our support services. Designed to inspire hope and provide a safe, welcoming environment, this space offers families a place to relax, connect, and create positive memories during their visits. 

Volunteers are the backbone of our charity. Their contributions span everything from family support to fundraising events. This year, we focused on both recruitment and retention, ensuring that our volunteer base remains strong and engaged. Tools like Meta messenger groups have been instrumental in keeping our volunteers informed and connected. These communication channels have strengthened our sense of community and ensured that volunteers remain an integral part of our mission. 

## **Summary of the main achievements during the year** 

Key Achievements in 2023/2024: 

- Expanded support to families in remote areas across the UK, ensuring access to resources and assistance. 

- Deepened relationships with Screwfix and other corporate partners, enhancing our capacity to deliver impactful services. 

- Increased storage and operational capacity to better manage donations and support families. 

- Delivered Easter and Christmas gift parcels, spreading joy to over 250 children and adults. 

- Strengthened volunteer recruitment and retention efforts, ensuring sustained support for our initiatives. 

- Created a vibrant, child-friendly space that has become a beacon of hope and comfort for families. 

As we close another impactful year, we are filled with gratitude for the unwavering support of our trustees, staff, volunteers, and partners. The achievements of 2023/2024 are a testament to the collective effort of our community, and we are excited about the opportunities ahead. 

In the coming year, we aim to further expand our e-commerce operations, deepen partnerships with local and national businesses, introduce new family support initiatives to meet emerging needs, and strengthen our volunteer network through targeted recruitment and engagement strategies. With the continued dedication of our team and the generosity of our supporters, we are confident in our ability to build on this year’s successes and make an even greater impact in the lives of families affected by childhood cancer.

The level of reserves held should be approximately equivalent to 3 months overhead costs (plus current liabilities).

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31 March 2024. 

As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

## **Independent examiner's statement** 

I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: 

- accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Act or 

- the accounts do not accord with the accounting records
