Financial Financial Review Review
The The charity's[charity's] financial financial aim aim is is to[to] maintain maintain sufficient sufficient unrestricted unrestricted reserves reserves to to provide provide flexibility flexibility for for the the school school to to operate operate through through different different economic economic climates, climates, and and in in some some years years to to potentially potentially absorb absorb an an operating operating loss loss
in in unforeseen unforeseen circumstances. circumstances. Beyond Beyond this this aim aim to to continue continue as as a a going going concern, concern, our our reserves reserves policy policy sets sets out out
minimum minimum unrestricted unrestricted reserves reserves to to cover cover the the equivalent equivalent of of eight eight months months (two (two terms) terms) of of a a winding winding up up of of the the
school school if if that[that] ever ever came came to to pass, pass, as as well well as as specific specific “designated” "designated" reserves reserves to to cover cover costs costs associated associated with with our our premises premises and and ICT. ICT.
Our Our annual annual accounts, accounts, in[in] terms terms of[of] our our income income statement, statement, are are fairly fairly straight-forward: straight-forward: with with revenue/ revenue/ income income driven driven mainly mainly by by student student numbers numbers and and fee fee levels, levels, and and expenses expenses largely largely driven driven by by staff staff costs. costs. We We generally generally budget budget[to] to break-even break-even or or to[to] generate generate a a small small net net surplus surplus in in most most years years to to help help build build reserves. reserves. However, However, we we are are cognisant cognisant that[that] there[there] may may[be] be years years where where we we might[might] make[make] a a net net deficit,[deficit,] or or perhaps perhaps make make a a much much larger[larger] surplus surplus than than budgeted budgeted for. for. The The latter latter generally generally occurs occurs when when we we take take on on extra extra students students during during the the course course of of the the school school year, year, with with relatively relatively low low related related costs costs (i.e. (i.e. un-budgeted). un-budgeted). As As outlined[outlined] above, above, potentially[potentially] moving moving to[to] larger[larger] premises premises some some time[time] over over the the next next couple couple of of years years will will likely likely incur incur sizeable sizeable costs, costs, hopefully hopefully to to be be largely largely covered covered by by the the designated designated premises premises reserves reserves we've we've built built up. up. Nevertheless, Nevertheless, we we would would expect expect higher higher annual annual lease lease costs costs for for larger larger premises premises and and to to take take on on additional additional staff staff as/when as/when we we expand expand our our offering, offering, with with related related student student fee fee income income potentially[potentially] coming coming in in on on a a lagged lagged basis.[basis.] This This might might be be a a specific specific example example of of where where maintaining maintaining significant significant unrestricted unrestricted reserves reserves will will prove prove their their worth worth in in allowing allowing us us to to carry carry on on a a business-as-usual business-as-usual basis. basis.
Review Review[of] of financial financial position[position]
For For the the financial financial year year 2023-24 2023-24 the the charity charity reported reported a a surplus surplus of of El £111,441 11 ,441 (vs (vs £11,150 El 1,150 surplus surplus in in FY2022FY2022-

The The significant[significant] drop drop in[in] total total liabilities liabilities in[in] FY2023-24 FY2023-24 largely largely reflected reflected the the part part repayment repayment of[of] a a government government grant grant that[that] we we had had re-classified re-classified as as a a “liability” "liability" the the previous previous year. year.
