The Harlngey Somali Communlty and Cultural Assoclation (HSCCA) Is one of the leading Somali lead charitsble
companles In London provldin8legal advlce, Informatlon and support servlces to members of the Somali
Communlty In Harlngeyand nelghbourlng boroughs.
The Organlsatlon has been provldlng advlce and support services for Somall refugees andasylum seekers as
well as Somali British cltizens for over twentyyears. Although itrs based in the London borough ofHaringey,
servSces ofthe HSCCA are accessed by Somalls from other London boroughs such as Enfield, Islington, Barnet,
Hackney and other neSghbourln8boroughs
HSCCA has supported thousands of Somalls over the last 20 years to access services, overcome barrlers to
successful resettlementand Integratlon and learn about thelrrights, entitlements as well as their obligations
and responslbllltles.

ey Somall Communlty and Cultural Assoclatlon (HSCCA) Is one of the oldest
somall.le

HSCCA was founded durlng the flrst wave of refugees In the London Borough of Harlngey, and It has built up a
remarkable 35 years of hlstory ass5stlng groups that are dlfflcult to reach In the clty.

obll arlons, and easln¥ access to essentlal servlces to enable members of the communlty to

were asslsted wlth welfare beneflts, 704 recelved support for houslns issues, 91 obtalned flnancial a5SiStance. 24 were
alded In flndlng employment, 34 recelved asslstance related to health concerns, 5 were supported In thelr educational
pursults, 33 engaged wGth communlty resources, and 25 recelved Immlgratlon-related supporL
Our commltment extends to dellverlng comprehenslve support to these servlce users, particularly In matters related to
houslng, Th5s encompasses welfare rlghts, debt management, underlylng health concerns, and mental health needs.

and Support Allowance (ESA) was abruptly stopped followSng a work capablll

organlzed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), she found hersel

The suspenslon of her ESA led to the suspension of other related beneflts, Includlng housing beneflts,
At thls critlcal juncture, Miss N approached the HSCCA office for the first tlme, havlng been referred by a frlend.
One ofour dedlcated staff members conducted a thorough needs and rlsk assessment, documentlng all of Mlss
N's needs not just those she Initlall
SOU8ht help for and identifying any associated risks. After cornpleting the
assessment, the advisor identified ailher needs and began craftlng a comprehenslve support plan. Thls plan
autlined the tssks to be undertaken on her behalfto address her needs, as well a5 the commitments requlred
from Mlss N and the agreed-upon deadlines for each task.
The HSCCA advisor ftrst prepared a Mandatory Reconsideration request letter and submltted It to the DWP,
asking them to reconsider their decision regarding Miss N's ESA.
However, thls request was denled, and the DWP upheld their original decision.
Undeterred the advisor then a
ealed on Miss N's behalf to the tribunal services. After several months,
the trlbunal'unanlmousl ruleifn Mlss N's favour, declarlng that she was Indeed entltled to ESA, thus
overturnlng the DWP,
ecision.

The Assoclation's supplementary and mother tongue classes play a crucial part in Improvlng
the educatlonal standard of Somall chlldren.
Over 90 chlldren took part in these extra.currlcular actlvltles that help youngsters in all key
stages of the currlculum wlth math and sclence.

We alm to have enough reserves forat least three months In accordance wlth our pollcy and
plan to accumulate 3 months of expendlture over several years.

unrestrfcted funds, and we are currently on track to meet the H

As part of the HSCCA'S commitment to build a reserve base, the Associatlon will Include a
