TRUSTEE REPORT FOR CRICK WOODLANDS Year Ending 31/12/24
Charity No: 1090645
Address: Vynters Manor, Crick, NN67TT Trustees: Peter Walker, Roger Lowe
Structure
The charity is run by an executive committee of no less than three members and no more than eight that meet bi-monthly. The executive committee must consist of three honorary members who will hold the roles of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.
Charity meetings cover
-
all ongoing and future activities
-
financial stewardship
-
strategic oversight
-
trustee appointments
-
risk management and compliance
Achievements
The woodland continues to be maintained by a group of volunteers who over the course of the year have:-
-
Thinned out the woodlands as necessary
-
Carried out track repairs
-
Kept the grass paths and open areas cut
-
Created dead hedges
-
Felled damaged and dangerous trees
-
Organised a successful beacon lighting for the 80[th] Anniversary of the D-Day landings
Financial Performance
The Crick Woodlands continues to be in good financial health. A substantial bequeath was received from a generous benefactor that will be ringfenced and used towards the purchase of an additional woodland.
Additional funding has been received from sponsored tree planting and the adopting of existing trees and benches.
Interest has also been earned on high interest 90 day deposit accounts.
Our funds grew over the year from and opening balance of £10,157.33 to a year-end balance of £137,859.75.
Major expenditure over the year was made on the purchase of a new flail and new battery operated equipment.
Governance and Compliance
Governance and safeguarding policies are in place that are under continuous review.
The committee meets every two months to discuss current and future operational matters.
An independent auditor has been appointed to oversee financial reporting and will be reviewing the woodlands internal financial controls to ensure appropriate governance arrangements are in place.
Impact Assessment
The woodlands continue to serve the village and wider communities. The local scouting sections and guiding groups regularly use the woodlands and the local primary school and Forest School are frequent visitors. Positive feedback is regularly given.
Tree sponsorship and adoption show continuous support for the woodlands and the number of regular dog walkers is a testament to its attraction.
Challenges and Learnings
Key challenges are the ongoing path management over winter due to inclement weather and to work towards instigating improved pathways in the worst affected areas.
Education of dog walkers to pick up and remove dog waste is an ongoing issue and managing fire risk in dry conditions need constant attention.
Future Plans
Priorities for 2025 are to :-
-
continue to improve the pathways in the Millennium Wood and other affected areas.
-
start looking for land purchase opportunities for the Graham Trinder bequest.
Conclusion
The Crick Woodlands continues to be a well run, financially secure, and widely enjoyed space for the local community.
