## Notes To the Accounts for The Year Ending 31[st] March 2023

## 1 Accounting Policies

These Accounts have been prepared on a Receipts and Payments basis as allowed under Section 42(3) of the Charities Act 1993.

It is policy to retain a minimum of six months Branch Expenses as a reserve.

- 2 These totals are the aggregate of all transactions of the “interest groups” for the year.

- 3 Subscriptions in 2022-23 totalled £10,222 and in 2021-22 were £419. The small amount of subscription income in 2021-22 was due to a committee decision to extend the membership of existing members for a further year without payment. This decision was made because most u3a. activity ceased during this year because of covid restrictions.

- 4 Raffle proceeds are used to supplement Branch income and, net of prizes, totalled £578.

- 5 Sundry income during the past year has come from book sales (£248), Programme advertising (£100), u3a day grants (£260), bank compensation (£250), Herts Network fund distribution (£87), balances from closed groups (£68) and miscellaneous (£3).

- 6 Affiliation fees include £1,816 paid to the Third Age Trust on a capitation basis.

- 7 Equipment purchased during the year consisted of three new laptop computers for the Secretary, Treasurer and Membership Secretary. The cost of these was £1,349.

- 8 The surplus of £4,335 is attributable to a surplus of £1,150, for the U3A Branch and aa increase. of £3,185 in total cash balances of individual U3A interest groups.

- 9 The cash at bank and in hand are unrestricted funds and consist of:

31[st] March 2023 31[st] March 2022 Branch £11,112 £9,962 Groups Bank Account £ 9,758 £6.007 Groups Cash declared at home £ 2,799 £3,365 **TOTAL £23,669 £19,334**
