Achievements and Performance
| SORP reference | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole. |
Para 1.20 | 1. Holiday Visits:COVID-19 regulations have prohibited holiday visits by children this year, but this summer we were allowed to welcome local orphanages for a short break instead, which they thoroughly enjoyed. 2. Shoe Boxes:as a direct result of the UK leaving the European Union, the Romanian government introduced stringent new laws that prevented our charity from delivering the usual supply of Shoe Boxes to children attending school in the four villages involved this Christmas. Alternative means of sending the boxes were considered but proved too expensive. Ultimately we supplied food parcels to a number of families locally, along with the Social Programme children. We were also able to give toys to the latter, as well as their classmates in the village schools. 3. Ukraine/Russian War:in February 2020, when Russia first invaded Ukraine, the charity was asked by the Mayor of Cataloi if Casa Valentin could be used as a clearing station for refugees crossing into Romania at nearby Isaacea. Our trustees readily agreed to allow this and by the end of March, a number of refugee families had been transferred to other villages and towns in Romania. |
