Chairman’s report for 2020

I am sure that almost everyone who has had to report on 2020 will start by saying that it was a very strange year, and indeed it was. Who would have thought that when the AGM of 2019 was held in Pax Lodge what 2020 would have in store for us? While many people have had had to cope with illness, bereavement, loss of income, loss of business, others among us were just glad that we had made it through the year. I am sure that many of us, coming from a Guiding background have done all they could to support families, businesses and charities that needed their help this year. Many people had to cope with learning new skills and become more familiar with Zoom, Teams and Facetime, keeping up communications with friends and family have made the computer, phone and even letter writing so important this year.

I can only thank the members who stayed with us this year, renewed their membership, and for the donations, both large and small that we received. The membership fees and donations have enabled us to continue to support the Centres, because even though they are closed they still need funding so that when conditions are right they can open again and give wonderful opportunities to the young and old in Guiding and Girl Scouting around the world.

Our income has been reduced as we have not been able to sell our merchandise at various events this year; we have had some sales on line from our website, Facebook and eBay, which has helped a little.

The trustees decided that we would try this year to hold a webinar , although spurred on to this decision by the pandemic we also hope that this will be a chance for members who are not able to participate in meetings to do so , and we look forward to seeing you at one of the sessions.

I would like to thank all the Trustees, especially Marion, who keeps the membership details up to date, not an easy task, and Kim who keeps track of our money.

With hope that 2021 will bring brighter days.
