## **PCFCD AGM ANNUAL REPORT 2023 / 2024**
**PCFCD provide invaluable support to the teaching and study of the Religious Education Agreed Syllabus and to the OFSTED priority given to the spiritual, moral, social and cultural dimension: a judgement contributing to the overall effectiveness of schools. Experiencing diversity first hand allows children to encounter the reality of religion and culture as a way of life and the values that religions and traditions teach, thus enabling schools to address the statutory requirements of their agreed syllabus for Religious Education, through lively and creative learning. Our work also helps schools develop mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, a key aspect of British Values.**
## **SCHOOLS STATS - 1ST APRIL 2023 TO 31ST MARCH 2024**
During the last financial year (2023/2024) 69 schools accessed our services either on a subscription or pay-as-you-use basis.
We provided these schools with sessions and workshops covering a range of faiths, the most requested of which were Islam (61+hrs), Hinduism (52+ hrs), Judaism (46+ hrs), Christianity (25+ hrs), Humanism (20+ hrs) & Buddhism (10 hrs), Baha’i (3+hrs), Sikhism (1+hrs) and our cultural speakers brought alive the African (9+hrs) and Chinese (6+ hrs) cultures. We also provided Storytelling, HMD/Learning from Solly and British Values workshops (totalling 34+ hrs). These sessions were predominantly speaker-led sessions, but some were delivered online when necessary. We were also pleased to be able to offer visits to places of worship in the city and delivered 32 visits to Plymouth Synagogue (totalling 62hrs), 20 visits to PIETy Islamic Centre (totalling 26 hrs) and 5 visits to the Minster Church of St Andrew and 1 visit to the Greek Orthodox Church.
In total, PCFCD received booking requests which equated to over 361 hrs of speaker time in the last financial year. The majority of schools have had face-to-face visiting speakers and visits to places of worship, however, there has been continued take-up of our offer to provide services online when needed and appropriate.
Trustees noted with thanks the contribution of the PCFCD staff in continuing to promote the work of the Centre under very difficult circumstances.
Below are a few examples of feedback following some of our online, in-person and Faith-Trail sessions:
_I just wanted to say thank you for this morning's Buddhism session. The children absolutely loved listening and interacting with you. To keep them all so engaged and hanging on your every word for an hour was wonderful to see. We hope to see you again soon and thank you again!_
_We just wanted to pass on our thanks and say how brilliant the sessions were that we had at school this week with your Muslim and Hindu speakers. The children gained a lot from these sessions and thoroughly enjoyed them. They really liked the_
_artefacts that were brought in and the way the visitors gave the information. Both were very patient with the children and answered all of their questions. Just wanted to email quickly and say a HUGE thank you for another wonderful session with Jonathan. The children listened so well and asked brilliant questions, and I know this is because of the way that Jonathan told Solly's story. Thank you for all that you do._
_I just wanted to say thank you to the lovely Jewish speaker who came to visit my Year 1 class last Thursday. She was really lovely with the children, and they all loved looking at the Jewish resources she brought with her. We took some photos on the day to put on our school website!_
_I just wanted to say a quick thank you for today, treating Leòn and his classmates to such an introduction to the Synagogue and Judaism- he’s not stopped telling me all about it and also said he and the other children felt it was by far the best and most enjoyable visit they did that day._
_I just wanted to drop you an email to thank you for organising our Humanist speaker. He did a really informative presentation that made the students think. I have received some good feedback from them, so I think they got a lot from it. I look forward to our next workshop._
_Thank you very much for our trip to the Synagogue. We all learned so much (and my husband's Jewish!) from Jerry. It was a really valuable and enjoyable visit._
## **STAFFING**
Jonathan Marshall continues to be available to provide advice and support for the Centre staff and Trustees. He has also been able to offer some online sessions to schools and Colleges on a number of occasions.
Sara Wells continued overseeing management of the office, administering school bookings, marketing our service to schools and increasing uptake in our services (reflected in the figures above).
PCFCD advertised for a new Finance Officer. The role was not filled in this financial year. Therefore, Yuki Yoshioka assisted remotely in book-keeping and invoicing. She kindly performed this role on a voluntary basis.
Trustees noted with thanks the contribution of Sara and Yuki in continuing to support and advance the work of the Centre.

## **DESTRUCTION OF PCFCD RESOURCES AT UTC**
PCFCD compiled an insurance claim for the resources lost at UTC including The Little Library. There was an absence of written logs or photographic evidence for the boxes being kept at UTC. Sara wells continued to compile details in order to submit a claim.
## **TRUSTEES**
There was no other alteration to the Board of Trustees. The members remain as: Mrs Anna Kelly, Councillor Sarah Allen, Councillor Sue Dann, Miss Arezoo Farahzad, Mr Vallabhdas Meswania, Dr David Salter, Ms Rizwana Yusuf. AF tried reaching out to the new Archdeacon on several occasions following the retirement of Nick Shutt in the hope of also including her as a trustee but the attempts did not prove fruitful.
AF also tried reaching out to PIETY for a trustee representative from the Muslim Community. They are aware of the request and are considering it, There is an ongoing urgent need for more hands-on trustees
## **SACRE**
Sara Wells continued to represent PCFCD at SACRE meetings and submitted a funding bid for SACRE’s consideration based around primary school visits to PIETY and the Synagogue. This was sadly turned down due to SACRE’s own need for the funds.
Arezoo Farahzad was also asked to serve on SACRE as a representative of the Bahá’i Community.
## **COLLABORATION WITH PLYMOUTH UNIVERSITY**
Throughout the academic year 2023/2024 Arezoo Farahzad and David Salter contributed to aiding the work of the Pastoral Spiritual Support department of Plymouth university as Faith Advisors and members of the steering group.
## **HOLOCAUST MEMORIAL DAY**
In response to the year's theme " _The Fragility of Freedom_ " Plymouth City Council and PCFCD hosted an event at the Council House Reception Room and at the Peace Garden on the Hoe on Tuesday 30[th] January 2024. Fifty invited guests attended a one-hour commemoration programme at the Council House with contributions from The Lord Mayor, Leader of the Council representative, the Jewish Community, Trade Unions, Gender Rights, Rwandan Community, an account of the genocide in Sudan and am incredibly moving presentation by students of Devonport High School for Boys following a recent visit to Auschwitz. Accounts on the theme were shared by:

A special note of thanks to Kevin McKenzie, the PCC support team and staff at the Lord Mayor’s Office for their time and help in coordinating the logistics working on the programme on behalf of Plymouth City Council.
## **INTERFAITH WEEK 2023**
The second PCFCD Interfaith Celebration was held on Thursday 16[th] November 2023 at the Plymouth Council House Reception Room. 60 guests attended to enjoy a harmonious programme on the theme of “Light”, a concept common to the writings of most world Faiths and beliefs. Performances and presentations included Bahá’i, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jew, Muslim, Quaker, Sikh and Unitarian. Guests of honour included The Lord Mayor, Councillor Mark Shayer, and Brigadier Simon Young DL on behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of Devon.
## **BABCOCK UN INTERFAITH HARMONY WEEK**
AF offered an online presentation on PCFCD and its work as part of a “Celebrating Harmony” session with a team at Babcocks
## **MEDIA**
Jonathan Marshall tries to write articles for RE Today whenever possible. Arezoo Farahzad, is asked to speak on BBC Radio Devon whenever appropriate about the ethos of the Centre, its work and achievements.

There was a deficit for the year of (£3,104). This has been added to the surplus brought forward, to leave a surplus carried forward of £29,710.

The Company is a Guarantee Company, not having share capital.

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 March 2024 that are set out on pages 4 to 7.
## **Respective Responsibilities of the Trustees and the Independent Examiner**
The Charity's Trustees (who are also the Directors of the Company for the purposes of company law) are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The Charity's Trustees consider that the audit is not required for this year under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 ("The 2011 Act") and that an independent examination is needed.
Having satisfied myself that the trust is not subject to audit under Part 16 of the Companies Act 2006 and is eligible for independent examination, it is my reponsibility to examine the accounts under section 145 of the 2011 Act, to follow procedures specified in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act, and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of Independent Examiner's Report**
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedure undertaken does not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
