## **PCFCD AGM ANNUAL REPORT 2021 / 2022**
## **SCHOOLS STATS - 1ST APRIL 2021 TO 31ST MARCH 2022**
During the last financial year (2021/2022), schools and the PCFCD office remained partially closed due to the pandemic, however 50 schools accessed our services either on a subscription or pay-as-you-use basis despite Covid-related lockdowns, school closures and restrictions, more than double that of the previous financial year.
We provided these schools with sessions and workshops covering a range of faiths, the most requested of which were Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, Humanism & Buddhism and our cultural speakers brought alive the Japanese, African, and Chinese cultures. We also provided Storytelling, HMD/Learning from Solly and British Values workshops. These sessions were predominantly speaker-led sessions, but some were delivered online when necessary. We were pleased to be able to resume offering visits to places of worship in the city and delivered 32 visits to Plymouth Synagogue, 12 visits to PIETy Islamic Centre and a visit to the Minster Church of St Andrew. We also provided Plymouth Marjon University with 2.5 hours of teaching time for their Second Year Foundation Degree students who were considering ‘Global Childhoods’.
In total, PCFCD received booking requests which equated to just over 270 hrs of speaker time in the last financial year. This is over 2.5 times the number of hours in the previous reporting period but is still lower than our usual statistics. It is however, rather encouraging when offset against school and office closures as mentioned above. The PCFCD team were also very encouraged by the schools appetite to return to having face-to-face visiting speakers and visits to places of worship and the continued take-up of our offer to provide services online when needed and appropriate.
Trustees noted with thanks the contribution of the PCFCD staff in continuing to promote the work of the Centre under very difficult circumstances.
## **STAFFING**
The Centre staff remained on furlough for part of this academic year although, in line with government guidelines, there were periods of gradual return.
Jonathan Marshall continues to be available to provide advice and support for the Centre staff and Trustees. He has been able to offer some on-line sessions to schools and Colleges and, together with the Chair, work with Plymouth City Council to plan and deliver the very well received annual Holocaust Memorial Day events in January. (see HMD below).
Over the year, Jonathan has written pieces about the Centre – themed around our 20[th] anniversary - which have appeared in the local press and a national Religious Education Teacher’s magazine.
Sara Wells continued overseeing management of the office and administering school bookings.
Yuki Yoshioka continued in her role of finance plus assisting with IT and Social Media when necessary.
Claire Linden continued the role of Education Officer.
## **FINANCE**

Funds kept back for a joint Bahá’i community project with PCFCD were sadly interrupted by the pandemic. Therefore, the sum of £500 was donated to the Centre on behalf of Plymouth Bahá’i Community.

Despite the above drop in our normal workload, the office being partly closed and the staff being placed on part-furlough, this financial year has actually benefitted the Centre. Our finances are in credit which is a relief but a significant effort needs to be made to apply for more funding. 2022 / 2023 is predicted to be a very busy year which will eat into our existing finances dramatically.
## **PREMISES**
PCFCD moved their office to Room W303 at Marjon University in July 2021 and settled in well.
In the short-term, the Little Library and some school resources material continue to be kept in storage within UTC’s ROSLA Building.
## **TRUSTEES**
There was no alteration to the Board of Trustees. The members remain as: Mrs Anna Kelly, Archdeacon Nick Shutt, Councillor Sarah Allen, Councillor Mark Deacon, Miss Arezoo Farahzad, Dr David Salter, Mr Vallabhdas Meswania.
Due to covid restrictions, trustee meetings were held regularly on Zoom and trustees were kept informed of important occurrences via email.
There is an ongoing urgent need for more hands-on trustees
## **COLLABORATION WITH PLYMOUTH UNIVERSITY**
Throughout the academic year 2021/2022, Jonathan Marshall and Arezoo Farahzad contributed to online consultation to aid the work of the Pastoral Spiritual Support department of Plymouth university. Due to the departure of the department liaison at the end of the summer term, the collaboration ceased. Perhaps, when the post is filled (the university have yet to make an appointment) PCFCD will be contacted again.
## **EVENTS**
## Religion Media Centre 5 Cities Conference
Following a grant from Culham St Gabriel, PCFCD were contacted by the Religion Media Centre to help organise a Plymouth conference entitled “Making Connections: When Religion Makes the News In the South West”. Similar events were also organised in Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester, and Nottingham (hence 5 Cities). The event was deemed a huge success and the RMC produced the report below on their website:
Sixty faith representatives and teachers from Devon and Cornwall took part in a conference at Marjon on Monday (15 November) to “Create Connections” with the media. Speakers including the Chief Constable of Devon and Cornwall Shaun Sawyer, spoke about the importance of faith communities in society and how they are engaged in public life. Journalists from the BBC, ITV and Reach PLC urged people to come forward with more stories so that faith communities are reported well. The event was designed to encourage conversations leading to greater understanding in an increasingly diverse society. It was organised by Leo Devine, Journalist in Residence at Marjon; Arezoo Farahzad, chair of the Plymouth Centre for Faiths and Cultural Diversity, based at Marjon; and the Religion Media Centre based in London, as part of its series of similar encounters in five cities this autumn.
## HMD
In response to this year's theme, " _One Day_ ", Plymouth City Council provided PCFCD with a budget to organise an in-person event (albeit limited numbers to previous years) at the Council House on Thursday 27[th] January 2022. Accounts on the theme were shared by:
