PCFCD AGM ANNUAL REPORT 2020 / 2021
SCHOOLS STATS - 1ST APRIL 2020 TO 31ST MARCH 2021
During the last financial year (2020/2021), schools and the PCFCD office remained predominantly closed, however 24 schools accessed our services either on a subscription or pay-as-you-use basis despite Covid-related lockdowns, school closures and restrictions.
We provided these schools with sessions and workshops covering a range of faiths, the most requested of which were Islam, Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity & Humanism and our cultural speakers brought alive the Japanese and Aboriginal cultures. We also provided Storytelling, HMD and British Values workshops. These sessions were predominantly delivered online.
Unfortunately this financial year, we were unable to arrange speaker-led visits and faith trails to places of worship in the City due to the ongoing Covid restrictions.
In total, PCFCD received booking requests which equated to just over 100hrs of speaker time in the last financial year. This is a dramatic drop from our usual statistics of 500+ hours but rather encouraging when offset against school and office closures as mentioned above. The PCFCD team were very encouraged by the takeup of our offer to provide services online.
Trustees noted with thanks the contribution of the PCFCD staff in continuing to promote the work of the Centre under very difficult circumstances.
STAFFING
The Centre staff mainly remained on furlough during this academic year although, in line with government guidelines, there were periods of gradual return. However, as schools maintained a no visitor policy, Faith Speaker visits took place on Zoom where possible.
Jonathan Marshall continued his role as an advisor to the Board of Trustees and coordinated British Value workshops with the help of PCFCD staff and Holocaust Memorial Day with Plymouth City Council in January 2021 (see HMD below). Sara Wells continued overseeing management of the office and administering school bookings.
Yuki Yoshioka continued in her role of finance plus assisting with IT and Social Media when necessary.
Claire Linden continued the role of Education Officer.

£16,052.80 remaining at the end of 2020/21 financial year
Despite the above drop in our normal workload and the office being predominantly closed, the staff being placed on furlough for this financial year has actually dramatically benefitted the Centre and our finances are in much better shape than they have been for a long while
PREMISES
PCFCD was given notice to move out of Lockyer Hall in Alfred Street by February 2020. Covid lockdowns and the furloughing of PCFCD staff delayed the move with the agreement of landlords (The Labour Party). Thanks to a recommendation from Bishop Nick Mckinnel, PCFCD was able to negotiate and secure new office space at Marjon University Plymouth. The office move was planned for October 2020. However, again, due to Covid disruptions and delay in arranging an official agreement with Marjon, the move has been delayed to July 2021. In the short-term, the Little Library and some school resources material continue to be kept in storage within UTC’s ROSLA Building.
TRUSTEES
There was no alteration to the Board of Trustees. The members remain as: Mrs Anna Kelly, Archdeacon Nick Shutt, Ms Sarah Allen, Miss Arezoo Farahzad, Dr David Salter, Mr Vallabhdas Meswania.
Due to covid restrictions, trustee meetings were not held regularly but trustees were kept informed of important occurrences via email.
There is an ongoing urgent need for more hands-on trustees
HMD
Holocaust Memorial Day
In response to the year's theme " Be the Light in the Darkness " Plymouth City Council, PCFCD and Soundview Media created a short 18-minute film that was shared online and on social media. Arezoo Farahzad shared a reflection on behalf of the Centre.
