TRUSTEES, ANNUAI REPORT AND STRATEGIC REPORT ABOUT US Since 1994, Hope and Homès for Children has bèèn working to stop thé institutionalisation of childrèn. We work across countries to close the doors of orphanag85 forever. We fight for everychild to enjoy the love ond b8longing of o safe family home. As chall8nges get tougher, wè work hard8r- with children, for ehildren. Because children should never be deprived of their lib8rty and suffer the horm of institutionolisation, under the cloak of 'car8". Our care reform specialists set up cornrnunity-bas8d family support services. Our policy experts promote stronger child protection laws. And our skilled social workers work directly with children to ke8p farnilies together, to reunite them ond to nurture new on8s. Through national reform and internationol advocacy, we inspire global action. We won't stop uritil we have consign8d orphanages to history. Until ev8ry ehild, 8verywheré, has the ehanc8 to thrivè in o strong, supported family. WE ARE HOPE AND HOMES FOR CHIIDREN Our mission is to be the catalyst for the global elimi nation of institutional care for children. Our vision is a world in which children no longer suffer institutional care. Ourvaluesore couroge, excellence ond integrity. Orphanoges confine and regiment the lives of children in ways that present egregious threats of abuse and neglect. What is happening inside orphanages todayi now, is impacting 5.4 rnillion childr8n18ading to lifelong consequences that irnpact upon th8 next 98rieration too. Our work to support famili8s ond prév8nt the separtstion of ehildrèn from them in thè first place, ond wh8rn this etsn't be oehieved, helping to place children in alternative forms of family care and protection, has yielded almost 30 years of important learning. We have used this learning to shape local services, national policies and int8rnational commitm8nts with rnuch wider benefits. For 8xample, in pursuing child protection and core reform, we are 588ing improved educotional and health outcomes for children, all of which coll8ctiv8ly contribut8 to irnproved chances and opportunities later in life. Now is the time to build a consensus across governmènts, rèlevont ag8nciès and importont influèncérs thtst orphonogés ore no longer an acc8ptable way of caring for children. We will help to build this consensus by working alongsid8 like-minded organisations. Our collective efforts and resource will create mornentum thot proves change can be succ8ssful at national18v81 in v8ry different contexts. We will s8ek to position child protection and care reform as a hurnan imperative, not only for those children for whom it matters so much now, but also for futur8 g8ner(rtions. And w8,11 build partnerships with th8 private sector to develop the kind of financing instrurn8nts required to secure the interest and commitm8nts of rnany other countries in which we have no pr8s8nc8. Armed with these financing instruments, we'll look for prosp8ctive investors and donors so thattraction for global reform gènuinely b8gins to bite. We have been a leading organisaiion in èliminoting orphtsnogas and rèforming Child proteetion and carè systéms in mtsnv countries ov8r olm05t 30 years. Throughout this journey, we have scrutinised the evidence. We have marshalled our front- line 8xperienc8, and w8 have listened to children and those who care for them. Our unique ochievem8nts and understanding have deepened our w811 of hope for the future of children. It is a stubborn, fierc8 hop8 that cannot b Èxhausted b8caus8 we hav8 seen what we ore capable of, and it drives our b8lief in what we can still achieve, no matter how tough the challenge. Our mission is cleor. Its purFX)se will not be denied.
