Welcome from our chair

I would like to acknowledge the role of our Trustees, Volunteer Surgeons, Administrative staff, and Volunteers, both in the UK and abroad. The contribution made by these individuals is beyond words, and the impact of their work has changed the lives of so many impoverished people. None of this would have been possible without the generous support of our donors and well-wishers.

In keeping with our aims and objectives, we have delivered an extensive range of surgical programmes throughout the financial year. The Trustees convened four meetings during the past year to help achieve these objectives.

These objectives included:

All of the above programmes were delivered in consultation with the Trustees and other stakeholders. The pinnacle of our charitable work is to give the Gift of Speech and Hearing to deaf children whose families are extremely poor and cannot afford the expensive Cochlear Implant procedure and subsequent rehabilitation.

The charity has received tremendous support from our regular donors, as well as from people who appreciate the work we do. Despite the rising cost of day-to-day living and other economic pressures, our donors have remained compassionate and continued to support this unique work.

IMRA has also introduced complex Sinus Surgery, as well as Free Eye Camps and operations for poor patients in both rural and urban areas.

This Annual Report illustrates the diverse spectrum of IMRA’s work across Pakistan. Our efforts span from operating on poor patients to enhancing medical expertise through supporting medical education, transferring technology, and donating essential medical equipment to areas of greatest need.

These endeavours demand ingenuity, innovation, and unwavering commitment, particularly at a time when the need for our services has increased significantly and costs have continued to escalate.

IMRA’s mission remains steadfast: to work effectively and assist as many people as possible.

Dr Mohammed Haroon Khan (Chair)

Middle ear surgery

IMRA has provided this free service for poor patients who are unable to travel to big cities like Karachi and Hyderabad. Local trainees were also given an opportunity to assist and observe on a monitor the major ear surgical procedures in the operating theatre. This allows the trainees to gain experience and learn from experts and was very much appreciated by the Pakistan Society of Otolaryngology.
