LFBC Choir

Thanks to the continued commitment of our volunteers and the success of our fundraising activities, we have been able to sustain and further develop our dedicated choir for people affected by breast cancer. The choir is led by a professional singing coach, supported by a volunteer facilitator, and delivered in partnership with Pop Voices, who provide oversight and guidance. The group of 36 members and growing meets weekly during term time for two-hour evening sessions and remains well attended. Members include individuals who are newly diagnosed as well as those who have completed treatment, creating a welcoming and understanding environments for all. The choir has become an invaluable source of peer support, offering participants a positive and uplifting space where they can connect, build confidence, and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of singing together. During 2024/2025, the choir has proudly performed at several community and cultural events, including the Solihull Festival, appearances at The Core Theatre, and a significant highlight of being invited once again to perform at Birmingham Symphony Hall in July, singing alongside over 500 Pop Voices participants. These performances have been both inspiring and deeply affirming for choir members, reinforcing the positive impact of the group on wellbeing and recovery.

|

|

The choir continues to be a powerful and uplifting initiative, helping participants set aside the challenges they face and experience joy, friendship, and a sense of achievement. We remain committed to securing ongoing funding to ensure this much-valued choir and support group can continue throughout 2025 and beyond.

Breast Mates Support Group

Breast Mates Central continues to be a cornerstone of our support services for people affected by breast cancer. Established in 2020, the group has grown significantly and now supports an online community of over 788 members, with new individuals joining on a daily basis. This growth reflects the increasing demand for accessible, compassionate support and highlights the trust placed in our organisation. Many members value the flexibility and reassurance of online support, particularly during treatment or recovery, while others prefer face-to-face connection. We are pleased to offer both. Alongside ourthriving online group, members are warmly welcomed to access in-person support at our office, as well as through craft sessions, coffee mornings, and a wide range of social and wellbeing events held throughout the year. This blended approach is a keyway in which we meet people where they are, ensuring no one feels alone on their breast cancer journey. Support is delivered by our dedicated team of trained volunteers, all of whom have personal experience of breast cancer. Their shared understanding, empathy, and willingness to listen provide invaluable emotional reassurance to those who are newly diagnosed, facing recurrence, or feeling isolated. One-to-one support appointments remain available for those who require more individualised care. As demand for our services continues to grow, we were delighted to welcome an additional Support Worker, Joanna, who joined the team in May 2025. Joanna’s role has strengthened our capacity to respond to the increasing number of people seeking support and will be vital in helping us meet future needs in a timely and compassionate way. Through regular online engagement, welcoming in-person activities, and a strong sense of community, Breast Mates Central remains a positive, heart-warming, and inclusive support network. It plays a crucial role in improving wellbeing, fostering connection, and ensuring that everyone affected by breast cancer feels heard, supported, and valued.

Soft Services

Post-mastectomy bra fitting remains a core and highly valued element of our support services. Feedback consistently demonstrates the importance of access to properly fitted bras and prostheses, which play a significant role in improving comfort, confidence, and emotional wellbeing during recovery.

This service provides vital support for individuals navigating the physical and psychological impact of surgery. By helping people rebuild self-esteem and regain a sense of normality, it contributes meaningfully to mental health and emotional recovery at a time when challenges can feel overwhelming. Many recipients describe the experience of being fitted by a trained professional as reassuring, empowering, and restorative.

We actively listen to the voices of those we support through regular pulse surveys conducted throughout the year. This enables us to evaluate the effectiveness of the service, identify opportunities for improvement, and understand whether additional support would be beneficial. Ongoing feedback confirms that post-mastectomy bra fitting continues to be essential and should remain a central part of our support offer.

By responding to lived experience and adapting our services in line with expressed needs, we ensure this provision remains relevant, compassionate, and impactful. Properly fitted postmastectomy bras are not only a practical necessity; they are fundamental to confidence, dignity, and emotional recovery. We remain committed to maintaining and developing this service throughout 2024/2025.

Hug-in-a-bag scheme

thoseBeginning chemotherapy or radiotherapy can be an overwhelming experience, particularly for who may have to attend appointments on their own. Our Hug-in-a-Bag initiative was created to offer comfort, reassurance, and practical support at a time when it is needed most. Each bag is thoughtfully put together to include a range of useful and caring items designed to support patients during treatment. Alongside everyday essentials such as a water bottle, moisturiser, and reading material, the bags also include items that respond to the less abvious side effects of treatment. These include a blanket to help manage changes in body temperature, as well as a hat and gloves, and other carefully selected additions. Over the past year, we have listened closely to feedback from both patients and healthcare professionals and have introduced new items to the bags to further enhance their comfort and usefulness. We are proud to now be supporting up to 28 hospitals across the region, working closely with Breast Care Nurses who distribute the bags directly to patients at the start of their treatment journey. In addition, bags can be requested via our website and are posted directly to individuals who may not be able to access them in person. Feedback for the Hug-in-a-Bag initiative has been overwhelmingly positive, with recipients frequently describing how comforting and reassuring it is to receive such a thoughtful gift at a difficult time. All bags are funded and donated by LFBC and are provided completely free of charge to recipients, ensuring that no one faces treatment without a small reminder that they are cared for and supported. This initiative continues to be a vital and much-valued part of our work, helping to bring warmth, dignity, and compassion to people during one of the most challenging periods of their breast cancer experience.

Our Future Plans

Fundraising activity led by external supporters is beginning to recover, although levels remain significantly below those seen in previous years. Rising utility costs and the ongoing cost of living crisis continue to affect public giving, with many individuals understandably more cautious about charitable donations.

Despite these challenges, we remain committed to expanding our reach and impact. In line with our Memorandum and Articles, we aim to engage with more hospitals within a 70-mile radius of Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham and to extend our Hug in a Bag scheme across this area. During 2024/2025, our goal is to work with 30 hospitals, providing not only our support bags but also information about Breast Mates Central, our support group offering daily support to individuals with a breast cancer diagnosis.

Raising awareness of breast cancer across the West Midlands has always been central to the mission of Ladies Fighting Breast Cancer. We continue to focus on educating people about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer, with a particular emphasis on reaching diverse and ethnic communities. We also actively promote the importance of attending mammogram appointments, reinforcing the life-saving benefits of early detection.

In October 2024, we hosted an event at our new offices for neighbouring businesses, which resulted in corporate sponsorship from MV Kelly. While grant funding remains highly competitive and difficult to secure, we continue to identify opportunities and submit applications wherever possible.

We are also continuing our partnership with the National Lottery, which plays an important role in enabling LFBC to support breast cancer patients across the Midlands. As public donations alone can no longer be relied upon in the current economic climate, developing sustainable funding partnerships remains a priority.

| | | | | : i

: ] / : : :

Within in the next year we are hoping to extend our wellbeing and holistic services, including counselling and holding a Beyond Breast Cancer event.

We hope to provide a monthly crafting group at our offices in Bromsgrove, as well as holding our own Christmas craft market.

We are looking into working in partnership with Blue Sky events our supporter to fundraise in new and exciting ways including running, cycling and climbing activities.

Like many responsible and hard-working charities, LFBC has experienced a significant decline in financial support and donations in recent years. Against this challenging backdrop, we are extremely grateful for the continued support we receive, which allows us to sustain our services and remain responsive to the needs of those affected by breast cancer.

impairment of fixed assets

A review for indicators of impairment is carried out at each reporting date, with the recoverable amount being estimated where such indicators exist. Where the carrying value exceeds the recoverable amount, the asset is impaired accordingly. Prior impairments are also reviewed for possible reversal at each reporting date.

For the purposes of impairment testing, when it is not possible to estimate the recoverable amount of an individual asset, an estimate is made of the recoverable amount of the cash- generating unit to which the asset belongs. The cash-generating unit is the smallest identifiable group of assets that includes the asset and generates cash inflows that largely independent of the cash inflows from other assets or groups of assets.
