Our numbers show we**<br>**have been able to achieve this.**<br>**We’ve also been able to continue to**<br>**work to help the children gain the**<br>**social skills, confdence and play**<br>**opportunities they really need.**<br>**This year we have been able to**<br>**secure some grant funding and**<br>**have fnished the year in a good**<br>**fnancial position. But**<br>**unfortunately we struggling early**<br>**spring to fnd or secure funding.**<br>**We have worked with;**<br>**310 children and young people**<br>**aged between 5 and 16 years old.**<br>**40% of these are new children.**<br><br>**These children have**<br>**benefted by having up to**<br>**2hrs of outdoor physical play**<br>**per session, helping them to**<br>**increase self-esteem, self-**<br>**confdence, social interaction,**<br>**emotional wellbeing, keep ft,**<br>**stimulate brain development**|

**45% of our children have ALN or on the pathway and they were supported so they were able to play with their peers, improve their social skills, wellbeing and confidence.** 

**Supported 30 local families with affordable childcare.** 

**45 children and young people participated in staff recruitment sessions various playscheme planning sessions** 

**One of our highlights this year was** 



**our 6-week programme of activities this summer. We had recruitment training and staff training during the last couple of weeks of term as we went straight into summer playscheme. We offered 3 full days of playscheme and 1 trip per week. This meant we provided: 120 hours of play opportunities 120 hours of low-cost childcare 1,500 hot meals 2,000 snacks And worked with over 76 children each day so over 304 children got to enjoy play experiences each week. We asked the children for their ideas of activities, meals and trips. For the children to enjoy their time it’s important they have their say, so they feel valued** 



**We had many positive comments from parents and children and community from this summer’s scheme Including:**

**Our other highlight this year we were able** for the first time since 2019 to secure funding from YHA for a 2-night 3 day residential. The funding paid for accommodation and food in a hostel in 



Brecon Beacons. We also secured funding from Arnold Clark Arnold who funded the bus and activities. The activities were provided by Black Mountain activity centre where the kids go to try the high ropes, archery and zip wire. For most of the children we took it was their first time away, so they were anxious, but they all did really well and attempted the activities. Parents and staff were very proud of them. Staff and volunteers at youth hostel were impressed by how the children communicated to the adults as they aren’t used to it and said it was nice to interact with our group. 



 **We have continued to work with our connections we made last year – Swansea Play service, Cefn Hengoed, Street Games, Kilvey Woodland Volunteers, Friends of Margam Park, Uniquely Yours by Rhi, PCSO’s, Swansea Libraries, Sport and Health Swansea, the orchard project & Swansea community buildings and Everyone Deserves a Christmas. Continuing these connections means we were able to offer new and extended opportunities, and our** 



|||**Facebook profle has stayed**<br>**visible and reached new**<br>**families which helps us**<br>**increase our numbers**<br>**throughout the year again.**<br>**Keeping Facebook updated**<br>**has become an important role**<br>**as it’s how we reach most of**<br>**our families and new ones,**<br>**photos really help us**<br>**showcase the hard work we**<br>**really do and the benefts of**<br>**play.**<br><br>**We also made a couple of**<br>**new connections this year –**<br>**crazy characters donated a**<br>**bouncy castle a couple of**<br>**times and a disco,** **Bug life –**<br>**The Invertebrate**<br>**Conservation trust taught us**<br>**about the bugs around us and**<br>**what role they play, Admiral**<br>**came out to help staf &**<br>**community groups paint the**<br>**main hall in the centre. The**<br>**kids loved the new colour and**<br>**so did the families.**<br><br>**Our connection with street**<br>**games meant we were**<br>**ofered spaces to Gareth Bale**<br>**festival of sport in Newport.**<br>**We took 11 Young Volunteers**<br>**by train which was a frst**<br>**experience for some of our**<br>**kids, to Newport where they**<br>**took part in a range of sports.**<br>**They got to meet Gareth Bale**<br>**and play sports with him and**<br>**came home with a signed T-**<br>**Shirt and a goody bag.**<br><br>**One of our Young Volunteers**<br>**also volunteers at the**<br>**Swansea stadium, and we**<br>**made connections with the**<br>**Swans football staf. He was**<br>**able to organise a visit from**<br>**their ambassador Lee Trundle**<br>**who came up to meet the**<br>**children, sign autographs,**<br>**play games with the kids and**<br>**take pictures with the kids.**<br>**He was impressed by what we**<br>**did, and the kids enjoyed**<br>**meeting him. This Young**<br>**Volunteer also completed his**<br>**induction to Playwork this**<br>**year and we are very proud of**|

- This year we won the award for Play in the community from Swansea play sufficiency awards. 

- Our playleader was nominated for life time achievement award. This year she has worked for 25 years keeping us going and ensuring that all children that attend get the best play experiences we can offer.

- **The Coast funding, Nourish the nation and Holiday food fund enabled us to take on extra staff for the summer without which we would not have been able to provide the extra session this summer. Play activities provided this summer included trips to** Oxwich bay, Gnoll park, Singleton park, Blackpill, Kilvey hill **and** 



**finishing with a big trip to Dinosaur park which was a big hit the previous year. With regular walks up Kilvey hill and to Bonymaen park to play games, climb trees, play in puddles and roll down the bank. In the centre the children took part in wide range of activities, such as sports, cooking, arts and craft, role play, Lego and loads of freely chosen play. If we hadn’t had the COAST funding, Nourish the nation and Holiday food fund and the extra staff we wouldn’t have been able to take on extra children or be able to take advantage of preparing, cooking and serving hot freshly cooked meals for all children and staff which is a lot now as our numbers have risen. It still is a lot of work, but the kids and families are so grateful as they know they will be getting a snack and a meal. It also takes the stress away from families and staff having to provide lunch and made the summer more affordable for them. We also did a lot of outdoor cooking and the kids really enjoyed and it made lunchtime less hectic.**
