**day for afterschool club to £3 per day**
**for playscheme which means our**
**services are accessible to most local**
**children.**
**We Provided the following activities.**

**per week providing play facilities for an**
**children aged 5- 12 yrs.**
**Easter playscheme 2 weeks, 3 days**
**per week 10 til 3**
**Whitsun, Oct AND Feb Half term 3 days**

**committee, have worked hard with the staff**
**to continue the work of BKPI during a**
**difficult financial year and encouraged other**
**parents and community members to get**
**involved with fundraising and various**
**events.**
**11 Local volunteers made massive**
**contribution to funding this year. Taking part**
**in street collections, organising charity**
**nights**
**20 young volunteers aged 13 to 16 have**
**really added to the younger children’s**
**enjoyment of both playscheme and**
**afterschool club, by encouraging them to**
**join in all the various games and**
**competitions they ran. 5 of them have been**| |||**fully involved and essential in the running of**

**cleaning, cooking, as well as preparation and**
**planning.**

1.20|While continuing to recover from the COVID Pandemic, the
financial crisis also hit and Bonymaen Kids Play Initiative has
seen children returning in greater numbers and has had to
continue to work hard to help the children gain the social
skills, confidence and play opportunities they had missed out
on.
In addition we have had a shortage of grants and if it wasn’t
for donations from BONYMAEN COMMUNITY CENTRE, and two
local business we would have had to close.
We have worked with;
267 children and young people aged between 5 and 16 years

It increases their| ||||communication and friendships.|  20 young volunteers supported to gain valuable leadership, social skills, life and work skills and build their self-esteem. One of whom gained her silver D of E award. 57 children with ALN or on the pathway supported to enable them to play with their peers, improve their social skills, wellbeing and confidence. Supported 30 local families with affordable childcare. 45 children and young people participated in staff recruitment sessions various playscheme planning sessions The highlight of the year was our 5-week programme of activities this summer, 4 weeks of playscheme, preceded by 2 two days of training and teambuilding sessions for our young volunteers and a community open day. The Coast funding enabled us to take on extra staff for the summer without which we would not have been able to achieve so much this summer. Play activities provided this summer included, trips to singleton park, oxwich bay, blackpill and oystermouth castle, regular walks up kilvey hill and to Bonymaen park to play games, climb trees, play in puddles. In the centre the children took part in wide range of activities, such as sports, cooking, arts and craft, role play, lego and loads of freely chosen play. If we hadn’t had the COAST funding and the extra staff we wouldn’t have been able to take on extra children or be able to take advantage of the summer holiday food grant which enabled us to provide , 1043 meals, and 1105 snacks for our children. We had many positive comments from parents and children and community from this summer’s scheme Including:  “thanks for keeping our kids entertained, fit, fed and happy” – Parent J.S.  “Such a great community resource for Bonymaen and the team are fantastic! As always, it’s great to play a part and to see the children enjoying” Bonymaen library.  “I can honestly say that this years playscheme will be one to remember, the new trips, the kids helping to cook lunch, and all the adventures will definitely be remembered, from the outside it looks like everything has ran so smoothly and that’s only happened because behind the scenes the team of carers and volunteers have planned everything to run smoothly. Thank you all” – Parent H.M.  “Thanks for everything you do for the children, without u I’d be lost” – Parent C.D. The comment above was backed up by other parents one of whom took 3 weeks off over the summer to spend time with the children only to find they wanted to come to playscheme.  “BEST DAY EVER” heard from a load of children on various occasions but in particular after our trip to oxwich bay.  “Kids enjoyed every bit of it and want to go every day now” – Parent S.H. Our proudest achievement this summer was the development of our young volunteers, we had 18 young people aged between 12 and 15 who volunteered to make this one of our best summers. These young people grew and developed so much over the summer.
