The Trust’s purpose is the provision of grants to the Parochial Church Council (PCC) of St Mary’s Steeple Ashton for the maintenance and upkeep of the church and its fixtures. The PCC organises and supervises works. The Trust issues letters of Intent if the trustees agree to support a project and transfers grants on completion or on completion of stages of the work.

It raises money through donations, through minor events such as dinners or concerts, through an Open Gardens day in Steeple Ashton every alternate year and through bequests.

The Trust maintains a risk register and sets out the methods by which risk is to be managed or avoided.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

The Trust raised £106,000 during the year mainly through a large bequest.

There was no Steeple Ashton Open Gardens event in the year. It takes place every other year and is a main fund raising event.

Grants to the Steeple Ashton PCC in year totalled only £3,444. The PCC suffered from the resignation of many of its officials, members and volunteers in this and the previous year and through the absence of the vicar through sickness. Maintenance works were carried out by the PCC which were due to be supported by the Trust but the PCC was unable to produce invoices to the Trust. The backlog is expected to unwind in 2024.

The trust expects to pay the PCC the following estimated sums in 2024 among other commitments:

Restoration of stonework, work completed. £17,000 Restoration of organ pipes, work completed. £40,000

The PCC Quinquennial Review identified the replacement of the lead roofing to part of the Nave as an urgent task with a cost bracket of £50,000 to £250,000. The PCC is carrying out studies to define the work and narrow the cost bracket. The Trust has not yet made any commitment to the PCC.
