## **Report of the trustees for year ending 31[st] March 2021** 

The trustees of Valgray’s Border Collie & Animal Rescue present their annual report and certified accounts for the year ending 31st March 2021. 

## **Our Aims:** 

To relieve the suffering and distress of Border Collie Dogs, but not excluding other breeds of dogs or other types of animals, by the provision of temporary shelter, veterinary treatment and by finding permanent homes for such dogs / animals. 

## **Our Objectives:** 

Our objectives are to provide shelter and new homes for Dogs (majority breed, Border Collie) who are no longer wanted in their current homes or have been abandoned. 

The Border Collie, as a highly intelligent working dog, requires specialist knowledge and must be rehomed with families that understand the breed and its specific needs. 

## **Review of Activities and Achievements:** 

This year has been extremely tough and challenging for the charity as the Covid19 pandemic affected our ability to function, plus Covid19 restrictions within the retail industry meant the shop was unable to trade for several months. Despite this we were able to find 35 suitable homes for dogs which had been rescued - most of which have been from the Border Collie breed. By the end of the financial year the charity shop had still shown a positive turnover which has allowed us to both pay the rent for the shop and show a small profit. Keeping the shop going would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of the dedicated team of volunteers that keep it running smoothly. 

Unfortunately, many events had been cancelled due to Covid19, so this year we were unable to attend Warlingham Fair, South of England show and Crufts in Birmingham. 

The charity continues to have good communication with the rescue centre in Romania and expects to rehome more dogs in the future. 

Towards the end of the year Matt Yule replaced Chris May, as Treasurer of the charity. This was formally agreed by the trustees. Chris has now retired from his position but continues to support and assist us. We all very much appreciative of the hard work which he has put in over the years. 

## **Financial Position:** 

This year has seen a reasonable income from private donations, income from sales in the shop and a grant from Tandridge Local Authority. Thankfully despite a time of unpresented problems, we have maintained funding at an equal level to ensure the charity continues with our aims for another year.
