ANNUAL REPORT 2024
The Community Association has had a very busy and. at times. a very frustrating
year. As stated in our last Annual Report, for 2023, our lease on the Community
Centre had ended and we were continuing under a 'certificate of use, until we could
raise the funding needed to purchase the building from the Church.
Various fundraising activities were held throughout the year with great success and
enjoyment from those attending.
Sources of grant aid were also avidly pursued and unfortunately many road blocks
were encountered. A delayed registration of the new entity, Crook Community
Association, resulted in a missed submission date for funding from the Community
Ownership Fund and when the next date was announced it was rapidly cancelled due
to the Government calling a General Election. So the quest had to start all over again
as there was no certainty that another round would be opened.
Meanwhile life continued as normal with all our regular activities taking place (Mini
Markets, Bingo, Line Dancing, Art classes, Adult Education classes. Slimming
Groups, Rabbit Shows and Birthday Parties. We also added Ferret shows again and a
Drag Show, which proved very popular and they immediately booked again for 2025.
Out attempts to change the name on our bank accounts also hit a few road blocks and
is still ongoing as the year ends.
The community users of our facilities have been exceptional in their support of all
our initiatives throughout the year and are as detern]ined as the Trustees to continue
the work that we do in providing a facility for everyone to access, particularly as so
many other venues in the area have closed down due to financial constraints in the
present economic environment.
We end the year deterniined, if somewhat frustrated, that the future of our facility is
worth the time and effort to keep and maintain it for future generations of local
inhabitants.
