## **Annual Reports 2021** Again 2020/21 has been a challenging and difficult year with limited F2F and lots of lockdowns and Zoom sessions. ## **Section Summaries** ## Rainbow Report for AGM 2021 We have 12 young members with 5 adult leaders, our newest recruit started with us on 9th July we also have three young leaders. We have a few new enquiries ready to start in September and our 4 eldest girls are moving up to Brownies in September As with all other sections we have been running zoom meeting for the last year, and we start back with face to face meetings in May. It is surprising how quickly we forget how load and giddy the young ladies are. We will be finishing this term next Friday, 23rd July with a campfire challenge badge. We have completed survival challenge badges; The Moo Challenge, The Dinosaur Challenge, the get me out of here challenge, The upside down, back to front Challenge and the greatest snowman challenge. As well as a virtual sleepover. We have also managed to fit in a few skills Builders and UMA’s We are hoping if the restriction continue to be relaxed that we can have a face to face sleepover in the near future and will continue with F2F meeting in September ## Tracy Coster ## First Saxilby Brownie Annual Report 2021 It has been an interesting year with a lot of adaptation needed but we have achieved a surprising number of activities on Zoom. We have tended to focus on fun rather than sticking to the programme as this was what the Brownies asked for. We completed a ‘Baby Shark’ Challenge Badge and have managed two sleepovers with varying amounts of outdoor and virtual activities depending on the guidelines at the time. The challenge badges on those occasions have been Badgers and Halloween. The blended approach is one that we are likely to adopt for winter sleepovers in the future and it is a good lead in for the younger ones where they sleep in a den at home but then meet for activities during the day. Our numbers on Zoom have remained at a constant 8 or 9. We have started to meet outside of the Scout and Guide Hut when the weather permits, and it is lovely to meet with the Brownies face to face. The programme activities are beginning to be possible again. So far, we have only had to resort to Zoom on one occasion. Let’s hope that holds for the remainder of term and our final sleepover of the summer. We do have places available and most of this group will be moving up to Guides next year in readiness for Poacher so we will then have a lot of spaces. I am expecting that they will begin to fill up as the restrictions are lifted. Thank you to all the leaders and parents. Everyone has been so supportive. It would not be possible without you. Sally Smith - Brownie Leader ## **Beaver Section AGM report 2021** Beavers have had a very varied but successful year. Due to many beavers moving onto cubs and some of our leaders moving on to pastures new, one to be our new County Commissioner - congratulations Amy, we made the decision to reduce to one colony from September 2020. Our initial face to face meetings had good attendance and we enjoyed completing our navigator and communicator badges. When lockdown again arrived in November it was a challenge to keep the beavers interested on zoom, but we really enjoyed virtually completing our cooks badge and a fun treasure hunt around their own home. When online meetings continued into the new year we had a virtual visit from author Andy Seed and were very busy completing our space, air activities ,book readers and creative badges. We were very pleased to return to face-to-face meetings after Easter and due to a large increase in interest we returned with 24 beavers as well as some on the waiting list. We have enjoyed being outside and working towards our safety badge, emergency aid badge, Outdoor challenge badge and working towards the county commissioner’s challenge. We are currently full with 24 beavers and have 15 on the waiting list who are old enough to start. Through the year we have had 2 beaver leaders but are now very pleased to be joined by one of our parents as a new assistant beaver leader. We also have another parent who is interested in becoming a sectional assistant as well as some new parent helpers. This is a good time to say a big thank you to all of our parents, they have been a great support throughout the year and are always eager to lend a hand when asked - for this we are very grateful. We would also like to say a big thank you to Neil, who has been a great help with producing the necessary risk assessments and sending them for approval. Finally, I would like to thank our 2 young leaders Bambi and Caterpillar. They are an enormous help at meetings, and we would struggle without their constant support. We were very proud to see them both be awarded their young leader belts at our recent visit to Sudbrooke, very well done to both of you! Debbie Johnson - Rabbit ## Saxilby Cub Section AGM Report July 2021 24 Cubs regularly attend F2F meetings at present. During lockdown numbers taking part on Zoom varied between 15 and 2, this when limited numbers were allowed F2F. There are currently 5 children on the waiting list plus BS due to move on. Cub Leadership team; CSL -myself, ACSL-Steph, CSA-Danny, Group Skills instructor-Brian, SL-Laura (alternative weeks), BSA-Kellie (alternative weeks),Group SA-Amy, plus 4 parent helpers who have been really helpful. 2 Scouts have spent time fulfilling the requirements for D of E with Pack activities very efficiently, both on Zoom and F2F, thereby alleviating a shortfall in parent helpers. In order to provide Scouting to all families now waiting for a place, there is an urgent need for additional help on a rota basis. It has been challenging to fit topics into presentation circumstances, but Zoom meetings were enjoyed by all participants, especially with the Scout input. Cub’s favourites were the virtual visit to Hull Dinosaur Museum and young trainee at Whisby, Sam, who ran a lively meeting on ‘Spring’. Cubs continue to enjoy topics in the C.C.’s Challenge started in February, with some now able to wear the badge on uniform for the rest of the year. Outstanding activities include a day hike as a contribution to the District ‘Walk to Brownsea Island’, 3 weeks of kayaking when every Cub took part, thanks to the qualified Saxilby watersports team. Cubs began a ‘bug garden at the HQ by planting insect attracting flowers. Top of the list is the annual fantastic fishing experience (except for last year) thanks to the Oates family and the group Team of angling experts. Cubs joined in the District Virtual and Blended camps and are looking forward to real camping + ‘Poacher International 2022’ next summer when 17 of the present Cubs will be Scout age and able to join the fantastic activities and international campers while the Pack will visit for a day’s experience too. Two Cubs have completed their Silver Chief Scout awards. ## Frances Mellor ## **1st Saxilby Guides 2021** We have 12-15 members and have gone back to face to face outdoor meetings in the last few months Previously we have been on zoom and have completed various bits of the Guide program, choosing things that could be done either virtually or in a socially distanced fashion. Some girls have completed the level 5 Communicate skills builder. We have completed a range of unit meeting activities and have managed to cover all areas of the program. Other activities include virtual sleepovers, National Guiding events run via you tube and Remembrance Day zoom activity. It has been a challenging year, but we have developed our IT skills. Zoom meetings have been a lifeline for those isolating and missing their friends. Many thanks to the leadership team for their creative talents and their adaptability. Here’s to seeing each other more and going camping in the near future! ## Rachel Wheelwright ## **Ranger unit report 2021** Like all the other sections we have had a very challenging year. We have managed to keep meeting throughout the pandemic with a mixture of virtual meetings and outdoor meetings when the restrictions have allowed. Our young members have been very supportive of our efforts and we have managed to grow our unit slightly this year. We have managed to carry on completing unit meeting activities and skills builders from the new Girlguiding program despite the difficulties this has presented when meeting virtually and two of our members have managed to complete their Ranger Gold Award. These are the first Rangers to complete the new award and we are very proud of their efforts, particularly under the circumstances! As well as badge work our activities this year have included: Making land art pictures, retro fashion design, animation badge – using play dough to make stop animation videos, Christmas taskmaster, County 60[th] Birthday Challenges, holding a virtual pet show, pancake making, being a virtual international explorer including trying some international cooking, making biscuit sculptures, ester egg decorating, a murder mystery trail in Lincoln, cooking on fires, and holding two virtual sleepovers. ## Sue Wheelwright ## **Scout Section Report 2021** 20 scouts on the books (one more than last year) and lots of Cubs soon to join us! 2 warranted leaders [Stuart and Laura]. Brian, Jamie, Glyn and Jason as Section Assistants or (not so) occasional helpers! Jo and Stephen have been a great help with the kayaking sessions. Plus, we have one current young leader. So we are well blessed for leaders during troop nights, please don’t think that we wouldn’t welcome anyone through the doors with a real interest in the outdoors! We’ve had great help from Parents Thanks to all! We have seen three scouts achieve their Chief Scouts Gold award, and are Hoping they can have formal presentation when possible. Achievements: - After last year’s AGM we got a COVID-safe risk assessment - approved to allow us to go out kayaking – the whole troop got 2 or 3 opportunities to go out on the canal. - Lots of Zoom meetings, memorable ones were: - Adam’s Porridge (sitcom) presentation - Virtual tour of the International Bomber Command Centre - Troop AmongUs game - Battle Ships - Cake in a mug - Would I Lie to you! - Dungeons and Dragons - Joes Bows Falconry display - We did some route planning and some good night hikes. - On our annual operation goodwill we collected a total of 2962 - items of food (down slightly from last year) although the total was slightly down from last year, we did also collect items for the Nomad Trust shoe box appeal and we ended up taking 25 full shoe boxes over to them for Christmas! – Well done and thanks to all of the scouts, leaders and parents that contributed (not to mention the people of Saxilby!) – a memorable collection (for pandemic reasons)! - Had a great trip to Arial Trail just before Christmas – with - Celebrations (chocolates) to keep us going! - We got ourselves into face-to-face meetings as soon as we were - allowed on the 1[st] April. - We practised our pioneering skills, then put them to good use in - building a 2-way monkey bridge for the Beavers, Cubs and Scouts to renew their promise on! - We covered map reading skills and trained for the Jamboree on - the Trail (JoTT) hike – we completed the hike (in heavy rain!) on the 8[th] May. - We did campfire cooking – with no utensils (sausages and various - forms of dampa bread). - All of the troop had the opportunity to go on 2 troop night bike - rides (in preparation for a day ride) and 2 kayaking sessions. - 7 scouts completed a 20 mile day ride (cycling) – around local - paths/bridleways. Plan for 2021/22: Day trip to PGL Caythorpe Court, Get in some nights away (COVID-dependant!), Increase our numbers ~25 (wake up the Cobra patrol!). Catch up on expeditions?! Finalise our next two-three Gold Awards. LOOKING FORWARD TO POACHER 2022!! ## **Our photos are available in the Scouts closed Facebook group and I’m hoping to show a selection during my presentation of this report at the virtual AGM.** Stuart Mellor ## **Mavericks Explorer Unit Report 2021** We currently have 5 Explorers on our books with hopefully 4 to move up from Scouts during the Autumn Term. We have 2 Leaders. We have had a meeting almost every week since Lockdown began with as varied a programme as we could manage. We have been “visited” by Birds of Prey, virtually hiked around Australia, visited the Army Flying Museum, had some very competitive battleship battles, quizzes and Scouting linked challenges and we have completed all the theory elements of the Navigator Stage 4 with some also finishing the hikes too to gain their badges. Once back face to face we have invested Explorers whilst kayaking, taken part in the 2021 JOTT hike, thrown some axes and are currently training for Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards, as well as Platinum and Diamond Scouting Awards. We have 2 Explorer's who have completed their Young Leader Belts, a significant achievement so very well done to them! Jo Lee ## **GSL’s overview of reports** So that completes the section reports, it is wonderful that all sections have managed to carry on virtually and done a surprising number of activities. This is a great credit to all leaders and your efforts are very much appreciated – THANKYOU!! We all hope that face to face meetings can now continue and we can try to get back to Normal. The work of Explorers as Young Leaders has been a great help to Cub and Beaver sections so many thanks to them, they show a great example to the youngsters in their sections.
