can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that
aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been
allocated to actsvities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.
Grants offered subject to conditions which have not been met al the year end da18 are not8d as a commitm8nt but not
accrued as exwnditure.
Taxatlon
The charity is exempt from lax on its charitable activities.
Fund accounting
Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.
Designated funds are amounts whith have been set aside al the discretion of the Trustees for a specific. but not legally
binding, purpose.
Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when
specifièd by th8 donor or when funds ar6 raised for particular reslncted purposès.
Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.
Investments
Fixed assets inveslmenls are staled at market value at the balance sheet date.
All gains and losses are taken to the stal8menl of financial activities as Ih8y aris8. Realisable gains and losses arè
calculated as the difference belween the market value al the year end and opening market value. The value of shares can
decrease as well as increase., hence the amount disclosed in the balan￿ sheet may not represent that which may be
received on any subsequenl disposal.
